  1. We have many Asian youths caught by Police, while driving "super" cars, at extreme speeds in Vancouver, Canada. Almost all are rich kids from Mainland China. They drive Ferrari's, Jag's, Aston Martin's, Masarati's. 17-19 years old, going 250 kph on municipal streets, driving alone on a "Learner's Permit Driver's Liscence. They usually get a slap on the wrist. They hire stupidly expensive lawyers, tie up Cdn Courts for years and keep on driving. Several have been caught 2/3 times over a few years. The worst case, is that they are deported back to China. They always claim the "Oppressed Minority" clause and usually the Cdn Justice System backs down.

  2. I find it hard to believe she was starved in BKK Prison. She must have a Thyroid Condition, to maintain that great weight over 9 years. I loose about 10 lbs per month, when I am in Thailand. It is a combination of eating more organic food, cutting way down on carbs, sweating like a pig in 35 C heat and 80% humidity, golfing 3 days per week and swimming every other day. I drink about 2 - 6 large beers per day and eat like a hungry horse, when in Thailand. Unfortunately I don't have that food intake control at home, so the weight packs on again.

  3. Like others mention, you have to budget for costs of your "extended" Thai Family. They will expect you to finance any disaster they may encounter. Best to live as far away from them as you can. Spend another 5-8 years in UK earning money. You're only 52. I'd also recommend that you think hard about health problems. I thot I was a healthy 67 year old, until I found out I have Prostate Cancer on a trip home. You are young enough; but after age 65, anything can happen. Thai Hospitals and Dentists are not very good in my experience. The most sucessful Ferangs I met in Thailand, are those having Expat Jobs in Oil or Mining in the Near East, Asia & Africa. They make a lot of money in low tax environments, so living in Thailand is a good option for them. I do know a few who expended about $1 Million in houses, cars, Rubber & Rice Plantations, Farm Equipment & Restaurant Businesses. They turn over a lot of money, but not much is going into the bank. Farming can employ all the extended family. You soon find out who will actually work and who is a shirker.

  4. Thailand: Transit hub for illegal products and human smuggling to Australia.

How Australia restrains itself with Thailand is laudable. Other countries would have reacted with trade sanctions, and additional self defense measures when faced with years of such activities.

If the US, UK, Australia or any EU country is not able to stop the import, export or transit of illegal drugs, why do you expect Thailand to be the exception?

A good point. In America we even have the Government supplying weapons to the Mexican drug cartels, who have used them to kill American agents! See'Operation fast and furious' It always makes me chuckle when i see posters on here slagging off Thailand for this sort of thing, some of them probably American nationals, who cannot see the irony. But then Americans don't get irony!

Right on! This amount of Illegal drugs is the daily "TAKE" on many US Borders. Drugs are shipped by the semi trailer load from Mexico to USA. Most get thru. Pickup loads of Small Arms regularly traverse the US/Mexican border with virtually no Inspection. USA Arms most Mexican Cartels. Many US Border Gun Shops are owned by US AFT and CPB Personel. Check the size of US Border Security Agents. Many live in Multi Millionaire Communities. Supposedly they make a lot of money on "Investments"?

  5. Duh ... Italian Photographer shooting pictures in the middle of a massive riot, in a 3rd world country, with heavily armed soldiers and some armed rioters mobbing all about. Gee, I wonder how he could be shot? This scenario should have indicated to the Italian, that he maybe should take himself to a safer location ... or safer occupation for that matter.

  6. Golf one day, beach the next day ... NIVARANA!! Pattaya is a Golf Mecca! Could be better, if the caddies could learn basic golf terminology ... I mean after 2 years caddying, one should know just about everything there is to know about golf. The best caddy I ever employed, was a 16 year old Thai Gal, who spoke excellent English. She actually played golf herself and her parents were English Teachers. Unfortunately she only came to the course when they were short staffed.
