  1. Make sure you count the actual number od "DAYS" in your Visa. I had a 2 month Thai Visa. I forgot that some months have 30 or 31 days. Also the 1st day you arrive in a countery counts even @ 11:59 pm. Upon arrival in Nong Khai (en-route to Laos) the Thai Exit Immigration pointed out that I was 1 day over my Visa. I thought I had a day in hand. It is 60 days, not 2 months! Cost me 500 ThB. Vietnam is an expensive Visa.

  2. Besides the 1000's of farang ripped off every year, men 65+ years old, need to give some thought to their long term health. There is a 100% chance that you will require some form of significant health care in the next 20 years. Thailand is probably not the place you want to be, if you have a stroke, cardiac problems or prostate cancer. One needs to maintain one's access to Health Care in one's home country. The requirement for good Health Care after age 75 is paramount. After reviewing my own circumstances, I decided that I should return to Canada. My Thai GF took it bad, but she has since found another Farang, younger and richer than me. Good for her and her family. I only return to Thailand for a few months of golf per year.

  3. These guys must be mental midgets. Anybody with any brains would simply buy a few guns on the Black Market, walk into nearly any branch of any bank, stuff a gun ito the tellers face, grab a few million baht and scarf off. I am continually amazed at the mosterous lack of security, in nearly every Thai Bank I go into all over Thailand. I'm amazed that heavy duty gangsters (Thai or Ferang) don't knock over these banks. Even if you are caught, there is always a significant chance that you could buy your way out. The one hassle would be how to convert the Thai Baht to USD.

  4. I am always amazed how causually farangs gobble down potentially contaminated food in Thailand, where refrigeration is marginal at best. Admittedly, I eat seafood salad sometimes when I am atThai beaches. I know that I'm taking a risk. I usually just have a few beers. The food should be cooked to be safe. There is a poisonous "Red Tide" (algae) which is endemic along the N/W Coast of N America, usually during spring time. It produces similar symptoms. There are many algaes world wide. Some are highly poisonous.

  5. Bin Dere, Dun Dat. Left my day pack un-attended, on a Bus from Sianoukville to Phnom Phen for 20 min. Someone nicked my brand new $500 Nikon Digital Camera. Didn't notice until after we de-bused in PP. Stupid. Normally I carried it in my pocket, but I had my wallet & Passport in those pockets. Shudda, wudda, cudda .... live & learn. Not worth getting stabbed for. That is why one needs travel insurance.

  6. Most people don't realise that Myanmar has a population of 50 Million, has huge amounts of Oil & Natural Gas and massive mineral deposits. Once the useless Military Govt is pensioned off, the Burmese can get on with making a decent economy. needless to say, the Chinese Mainlanders are frantically clawing out as much as they can, while the current Myanmar Military maintain power.

  7. It is a BUMMER. Direct Flights to anywhere in the world are more expensive June-Sept, because that is the Holiday periods for Northern Countries like USA/UK/EUR. It is the off season hotel rates in Thailand, due to the hot rainy season. Then it changes in Oct 15 - Mar 15. Cheaper Flights and expensive Thai Hotel rates, because Oct-Mar is the High Season in Thailand. It's all about Ferang Holiday Timing.

  8. I spent a week @ Koh Chang in Sept 2010. There is not a lot to do around there. Some nice beaches & Bungalows. Rainy season is dicey, due to constant very dangerous road washouts. We cleared out of there after a week. Had to hike along a dodgy bypass for a road washout that killed 4/5 people at a resort below the road. We went to Koh Samet in Sept 2011. It is the driest Thai Island, so ideal in the rainy season. However; as per above posts, there is not a lot to do around there. Not much coral & reef fish in close to shore. Decent off shore diving. Also roads on the Isaland are deliberately kept in poor condition, so the motor Boat Mafia can extort money off gullable tourists @ 1000 ThB per passenger. Just take the regular 30 ThB ferries from the port of Phe; which is about 1 hr by bus from Pattaya or 3-4 hrs from Bangkok.

  9. I wonder about all those +65 year old farangs living in Thailand? Sooner or later thay will need serious medical care. I finally gave up on the hot weather, the financially grasping family, poor sanitation, etc. Returned to Canada, only to find that I have Prostate Cancer. Could have been disasterous in Thailand. I met many older farangs there that never check their prostate. That is playing c/w fire. Now I visit Thailand for 2 month golfing trips. No more long time relationships.

  10. You have probably seen the U-Tube Videos of dead chickens in China, being processed to ship to the USA. Do think that doesn't happen in LOS? Think about that, the next time you chomp down a grilled chicken from the local Thai Street vendor. I just hope the grilling kills the Virus! As for eating "Dancing Krong" at the beach ... forget it. My Thai GF got sick 3 times in a row eating those live shrimp. "Me neber getting sick", she always says. "Ya sure Terak. Why were you sitting on the toilet & vomiting for 3 hours, on our last trip to Jomtien Beach?" I pointed out to her that it was 35 C, the dancing Kung came from an E-Coli contaminated "fresh" water pool, surrounded by village houses c/w septic tanks that flood on every rainy season. Ditto for the snails her family catches in the paddies around her house in Issan. Gee, I wonder why people get sick? "We go pray Bhudda. Den not sick", she said. Not eating the contaminated food doesn't compute.

  11. My first experience @ Don Mueang Airport was in July 1972. I flew to BKK from Calcutta on a Thai Airways Flight. As the plane came in to land, it began to circle. We could see a massive column of smoke rising many 1000's of feet into the air. The plane continued circling for about 20 minutes. The Pilots were both UK Farangs. Finally we came in for a landing. We passed the fire scene, which was a burnt out C-47. I cleared the Immigration to meet my brother, who was then a CUSO Volunteer in BKK. He was pretty excited, as he was standing on the viewing deck and saw a Thai AF T-33 Trainer Airplane collide and slice off the wing of a C-47. Amazingly, everyone survived. The C-47 Crash landed and the T-33 also landed. We read all about it in the BKK Times Newspaper a few days later. I thought, "Welcome to LOS!"

  12. My bus from Theran, Iran to Ezarum Turkey stopped at the Border crossing Village for the usual shopping spree. As I walked around, some boisterous Iranian boys threw some liquid on me. At first I thought it was water, but I soon found out it was battery acid. I washed it off, but it put some holes in my expensive down hiking jacket. Fortunately my eyeglasses deflected the acid from going into my eyes. Muslims were freindly even in those days.

  13. If you clear Immigration 0700-1700 hrs, an A/C bus is 250 ThB to Pattaya. Very comfortable , professional & probably a lot safer than a taxi or limo. Taxis are mostly 1500 ThB. Used them many times. They can take you to a Pattaya Hotel. Ask for a new hotel. Usually they give the best deals. You can arrage a long stay after a few days at a more expensive hotel. The Pattaya Airporter Bus Station is between Pattaya & Jomtien. The hassle would be to get to your hotel. Personally, I prefer to stay in Jomtien. It is quieter, cleaner and smaller. You can always catch a Songteow into Pattaya proper for 20 ThB.

  14. Forget it pal. Go visit another Asian country for a holiday. European & Western Countries are very tough on even Tourist Visas. There are just so many Economic Refugees in all these countries, that all these Govts are being very tough. I don't think you will have much luck. I went thru the samre process in 2011, for a Tourist Visa to Canada for my Thai GF. It was a no go. I finally gave up on the Visa & the Thai GF. The Cdn Embassy didn't like our 30 year age gap. We were together 3 years, but that counted for nothing. Thai lady must be a Govt Teacher, Nurse or long time business owner. Farmers need not apply.

  15. Saxena lived in Canada for 14 years, 12 of which he lived in luxurious condos in the Vancouver Area. I think his family still lives in Canada. Unfortunately the Cdn Legal system expended mega millions deporting Saxena. Not sure if the Cdn Taxpayer ever recoved any of the Legal costs. Canada also returnred Lai Changxing to China for similar reasons of financial impropriety Canada is a haven for Asians on the run from their local Governments. LOS has Hookers, Canada has lax Immigration and expert deportation Lawyers.
