  1. I had been out of the country for the first 2 weeks of July on holiday and forgot to pay my TOT phone/ADSL

I went to my local TOT office (in Central Phuket) to pay my bill.

Upon presenting my bill and offering them money at the same time they say "can not."

    I ask "Why not?"

    "Oh, our line is down."

    ...

    TIT

TOT's wonderful service and reliability continues to amaze :o

Idiot central billing. Each are should bill and take it's own money. Lines to a central computer are not needed except by the brainless. But perhaps nobody can operate a cash register.

  2. Is anyone else having problems with ToT's ADSL this weekend? I'm in Korat and it has been down almost all weekend, except for an hour or two here and there. I called ToT and they said ADSL is down all over Thailand...

1000 Baht per month for unreliable, high speed (?) :o (yeah, high speed alright. It measures 800-900 Kbps on the speed test, but just try downloading large files or God forbid an NHL game on Google Video...10-12 HOURS later) internet access.

    T.I.T. I guess...

ToT has been almost down in Surin for two weeks. speeds less than 150 Kbps, no mail server, no DNS out of Thailand...totally FUBAR. Worst is there is no one who speaks English in the region. and no one who gives a shit.

Yes, Surin has a major problem with useless maintenance staff.

No phones in the village for 3 weeks and very slow TOT Ipstar as well.

All used to be OK several TOT Presidents ago.

  3. I once asked the Head of English at the university where I worked what all her medals were for. She had no idea, just wore what the front office told her.

I would really like to see a survey done on how manyy times these people with parachute wings have ever made a drop in the course of their duty. None, I suspect.

But appearance is always more important than reality. Big engraved Italian marble signs outside public buildings, including rural schools, instead of a painted wood notice board.

Just think of how much money could be saved!

  4. Once had a chat with Richard Dimbleby while we watched a Salvation Army parade.

50 years ago so I suppose he's died now, so we'll soon be able to have another chat.

  5. Every time I boot my computer up some program or another needs an update....and that's after my two anti virus programs have done theirs.

There is not only no need to run two antivirus programs but they won't work properly while fighting each other. This is why nobody ever recommends running two antiviruses at once. It's not like putting two locks on the same door, it's like putting two doors on the same hinge.

Uninstall one of them (whichever is the worst) and just run a single AV, and once in a while disable it and run an online virus scan to double check it.

Doesn't like Firefox so forget it!!

  6. I use TOT 256/128 Ipstar. Fine before 8am then slows down to a crawl. Used to be fine for months and month more than a couple of weeks ago. A guy in Chonburi got TOT to change his ISP which worked fine for him and got him back up to speed daytime.

Not been able to persuade them yet.

  7. Real player V10 used to play my collection of WMA files sampled at 10K but since reinstalling driveC I get double speed. Files sampled at 12 K or more are OK. WMP does the same.

    Any ideas? Thanks

  8. Funny that ...I have always had good service whenever and wherever I have been in LOS.......well most of time... :o mpr

I agree. Where else does the entire staff of the 7-11 stop what their doing to welcome you.

When in most restaurants I have exemplary service, I can't take a sip of beer without being topped off immediately.

When shopping I'm usually followed by one or two sales girls eager to help.

Even "Big C" has a helpful staff....though you may have to get someone's attention occasionally.

I believe Thailand is one of the most service oriented countries in the world.

Perhaps it's Tesco that needs help........Could it be it's British management's faulty training?

No, not faulty training. Lack of training.

But remember, the founder used to sell goods himself off a street barrow. No staff needed!

  9. :o If you rebuild an old 98 or 98se sys and don't think you can get the updates and patch I have a windows site that still works. Don't use the reg. update links they will tell you it not supported goto

    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.ASP

works just like the reg. iupdate site I got 21 sec. updates 2 service packs and 45 software patch today and the 98 mech is back on line. Kyle

But it says that Windows Thai is a nogo.

  10. Thanks for the info, guys. It was Angel and the Bad Man - John Wayne. Not into new stuff.

Still I'll give it another whirl later, but perhaps TOT Ipstar block during the day also.

  11. Its almost like we can't wait to see the @rse fall out of the US economy... Almost...

I love it when there are 2 dollars to the pound, makes conversion easier and it reminds me of when I were a lad up in't north!

    them were some grand days...

    Loz

And, of course, a dollar was 5 bob!!!!!!!

  12. The Tambon is in the Khun Han Amphur

    Is it :

    Kan Thom

    Kan Trom

    Kan Throm (wikipedia)

    Kanthom

    Kantrom

    Kanthrom

Where can I get an answer ? Post Office ?

    Thanks

Its probably on a local road signboard in English. There will be a school with secondary students ask them: the English teacher should know just about enough to help.

Can you get you wife to write the name in Thai here and I'll have a go for you.

The attchment will give you a clue. Use a large font

  13. Thought I give Bittorrent a try.

Installed the app and tried for a film.

After half an hour I got the message that download would be completed in 39 days!

    So much for progress.

    Back to Getright.

  14. Yes, I am quite sure that you can find a photo studio in Surin. I know of one on the main road with Big C, Tesco, Makro, heading towards Buriram, and opposite/just past the General Hospital. They have a selection of costumes in their wardrobe for you to try on and have your photos taken. Another studio which is very popular is situated opposite the Water Company Offices, just off the main road from Prasat, and turn left at main roundabout into town. I know they have a variety of backdrops but I do not know if they have a wardrobe with costumes.

You may be surprised to know that the Big C, Makro and Tesco road does not go to Buriram but to Lamduan. hope you don't drive too much.

  15. On the road between Phusing & Bauchet, there are white numbers painted randomly on the road, and each one marked with a pink ribbon. All the numbers seem to be between 400 and 600, and are not at all evenly spaced. A couple are even by the edge of the road. Does anyone know what this signifies? My guess, as the road is in dire need of repair, that this tells the repair crew the depth of the tarmac.

At a guess I would say it's the elevation. When the road is repaired they are probably going to super-elevate the corners so your car remains level when you go round at high speed.

600 is far too thick for the depth of tarmac here even in millimetres. That's why roads need repairng every six months or even sooner.

  16. Ex TOT Saprang should be praised.

If the army wants money it should ask the Ministry of Defence. Secret fund from any other government department is misuse of public money.

Everyone know that Suttichai is a useless know nothing minster
