  1. If the Royal Institute is concerned about the Thai language it could make a start with the ex civil sercie staff college calling itself the Chulalongkorn of University.

Then it could perhaps look at English transliteration and come up with Julalongkorn and Sumkhumwit Road and not Sukyumvit Road.

Ad, of course, there is also Taksin Chinawat!!

  2. I'm a thai girl who have farang b/f I always be good girl and I know he try to be good boy (just in fron of me) but ........ I try to acceptable from whats he done but why I have to be in thats situation? be good girl for whats? that I asking myself.

Its harder to be a good girl/boy than a bad girl/boy here.

Leave him quickly and find somebody who thinks with his head and not his other parts.

    Good luck Sweetie.

  3. It seems that the TOT are now incapable of keeping our village telephones working after four years of excellent (including dial-in) service.

Is there a cellphone available that I can use to send faxes from my computer? I seem to remember that it was possible when the TOT 470MH service opened many years ago.

Size is not a problem as it will be fixed and not mobile.

  4. Bomb explosion at a Bangkok theatre

A bomb explosion damaged public telephone booths, but injured no one at a theatre on Monday night.

The blast destroyed three telephone booths in front of Major Cineplex Ratchayothin at about 11.30 pm. There was no report of injuries. The theatre was one of ten targets attacked by bomb explosion on New Year's Eve.

I was thinking Thai, this being Thai new years and all, thought you was saying something else, but this is still so wrong, <deleted>, all we can do is carry on as normal, don't let the bastards get us down.

And nothing on their website this morning. Amazing Thailand!

  5. Well, I've had TOT Ipstar 256/128 for about 6 months now.

Reliable and no problems except a bust ethernet card.

Not fast but much better speed that dial up and TOT haven't fixed the phone for months now.

  6. My Zyxel 630-C1 ASDL modem has a USB 2.0 connector at the end of the output cable and my router is configured with ethernet ports only. How do I adapt the modem cable to ethernet. The modem has a funny looking female connector (kind of square with a large rectangular centering pin) on it so changing out the cable is not the easy answer (or is it?). Is there an adapter to convert the USB to ethernet?

Thanks in advance to all the techies of the world :o

So why not put a 400 baht ethernet adapter card in your computer?

Then just a double ended LAN cable.

  7. And on a very related issue, Makro have stopped selling cheddar cheese blocks and only have Mozarella. Can I use this for cooking e.g. sandwiches, cheese sauce, potato cheese etc?

Or do I have a round trip of 900 km to buy cheese in Bangkok?

  8. My wife bought me a new phone the other day, and I must say it caught me by surprise. I didn't know you could get them like this.

    My telephone:

DOES NOT have T.V, internet, MP3, camera, video, VCD,VCR,DVD,, microwave oven, two way connection with a Russian space station orbiting Mars,

It DOES NOT have GPS, IRS, ILS, OPS,KHT,JYF, NAAFI,FBI, CIA,

But it does do this new and wonderful idea.

It makes and receives telephone calls.

Do you think it'll catch on?

I do hope so, But the TOT will have to learn how to maintain it!!

  9. I had to get a converter for my US Xbox (cost me like 600 baht i think). Bought it from Fortune Town.
however readily available for just about any Mom and Pop hardware store smile.gif

I did not find them this readily available, i had to search around a bit to find one.

Honestly, next time you need one go to one of the tiny places with loads of electrical stuff piled everywhere, they have everything imaginable (and some stuff that's not, our local place in Pathum Thani has for some reason, a very dusty box of UK style 13Amp plugs :o )

Granny will find one hiding in the amazing pile, I find it incredible that they know where anything is :D

!3A plugs will be useful when you go to the Oriental Hotel

  10. I am glad that your letter turned up You were lucky -- I had five pensions cheques sent from England ( The Goverment will not send OA pensions by electronic transfer to Thailand) All were in brown papers envelopes -- all were Lost and when I enquired about them I was told that brown paper envelopes were treated as junk mail.

Get a Bangkok Bank account. UK pension cheques can be paid to their London branch for clearing and 10 days money transferred here by Swift.

  11. Hi all,

I am just doing a little prep work for ready for retirement in LOS, :D can anyone tell me, is there an Immigration Office in Nong Khai or Udon Thani (exact location would be a great help, is it near the bus station etc) :o .

    Thanks guys. :D:D:D

The Nong Khai is near the bridge, beyond the railway station.

  12. Yes, we got battered a bit outside Surin. Big thunderstorm followed by lashings of rain.

Brought down the TV aerial and half a fruit tree by the house.

Long power cut so had to open the windows instead of aircon so got a bit of sleep as the rain brought the temp down to bearable.

Internet via Ipstar dead slow this morning.

    Nice cooler weather now.

  13. No matter what email you use, it is saved and tracked. That is why it is the internet.... As the story goes, if you wouldn't say it out loud, then don't put it in an email.....

    Write a letter...

    That's certainly true for webmail.

You can have POP mail accounts that get cleared out every time you access via your mail client so your mail stays on the server only a short time. I don't know any free ones, I use .Mac mail which is kind of overpriced ($99/year).

Alternatively, GMail does allow you to delete mails - it stores everything by default, but you _can_ delete stuff.

jinjok - would you mind sharing your concerns about Gmail/Google?

The only incident I recall was when the U.S. government asked all mail providers for data and everyone complied except Google, which fought for its users privacy in the courts. Google was definitely the good guys then - unlike Yahoo, MSN (hotmail), AOL, and others.

You can get a free POP mail account from yahoo.co.uk

    Faster than a .com one

this is my girlfriends home in here village, small but nice 30,000baht for the land built for around 200,000 baht.

thai bathroom and kitchen, since this pic she has tiled the house and verandah.

i love going living here very relaxing.

we are eyeing a block of land on the main rd of the village one rai 100,000 baht over looks the dam does this price sound fair,my girlfriends village is a very poor one,she said the land has paper but no paper to get loan to build not as though i will be obtaining a loan to build.

land one soi back are around 30,000baht a lot,but these on the main rd more expensive nbecause you can have a buisness.

this is close too nong kung sri, kalasin small village called phu hang.

only downside is no internet,is there a way of getting internet to out of the way villages?

i currently getting ubc connected for my girlfriend,as watching thai soapy's all the time not for me.

You can get an IPstar dish from the TOT no problem. Slowest 256/128 is Baht 1605/month plus installation. Very reliable.
