  1. Paddy and his missus are lying in bed listening to the next door neighbours' dog barking. It had been barking for hours and hours.

Suddenly Paddy jumps up out of bed and says "I've had enough of this".

    He goes downstairs.

Paddy finally comes back up to bed and his wife says, "The dog is still barking. What have you been doing?"

Paddy says "I've put the dog in our yard . Foogin' see how THEY like it !"

    :o

  2. Just a point.

I know two people who have had accidents in Toyotas (Sportrider and Fortuna). The accidents were both virtually head-on and in neither case did the airbags inflate.

Were they Thai? If they were. they almost certainly weren't wearing seatbelts.

Both farangs Mick. One was wearing, one was not. The latter is still in a coma after 9 months.

  3. I believe in being on the safe side so I recently went to Pattaya immigration because my next 90 day report date would occur when I was overseas ( some three weeks hence ). I presented the completed form and was given a new report date 90 days from the day of my visit to immigration. Maybe not necessary or strictly speaking required but I'm comfortable doing it this way.

    Don't forget your re-entry permit.

  4. Just thinking this morning sat on the stoep.

I have a bag full of filters which I haven't used for years (maybe 15 years), polerize, colours, graduals, diffuser, etc. Is it considered "cheating" to use these?

Must try them out with the digital.

    Cheers

  5. In my experience (although a few years ago) I transferred just over Bht 1,000,000.00 to my own bank account in the Channel Islands from my own bank account in the Bangkok Bank. The cost should have been Bht 400.00 but because of currency transfer regulations, I could not easily transfer Bht 1,000,000.00 in one transaction. I therefore effected two transactions over a three day period so the cost was Bht 800.00.

Please note, the Bht were converted to Sterling within Thailand.

  6. 1. I looked up to buy a PC for my Girlfriend, but in Bangkok are these cheaper

    2. I went out to have a Dinner at one of these mongolian BBQ's, ( where you have the BBQ Grill on the Table) & there was a huge sign, 1 Person 189 Baht (!) 2 and more Person 99 Baht each (!) Even in Samui have much bigger sortiment and cost only 89 BAHT, even if somebody goes alone...

I think, this is enough to explain about "cheaper than BKK or somewhere else"

That looks very much like a "typo" to me. In my travels around Isaan I've never seen anything like that before. Notwithstanding this, if you saw the huge sign before you went in, why did you not try somewhere else?

How much was the beer, BTW?

  7. The information given on the quoted web page is confusing.

"Most western countries does not need a Tourist visa."

This statement would be better clarified by adding "for stays of less than 30 days". Explaining the 90 days per 6 months may be a little difficult here but could be included as a footnote.

"The validity of a visa is three months. That means that you must utilize your visa within 30 days."

Surely this is incorrect. I believe the visa may be utilised at any time during it's validity, i.e. within the dates detailed. When entering the Kingdom the holder then receives permission to stay for 60 days which may possibly be extended for a further 30 days after which time the holder must have left the Kingdom.

Perhaps Lopburi could add some assistance here.

  8. When I first visited Thailand in 1995, I vaguely recollect that the price of diesel was around Bht 11.00/litre.

When I moved to live here in 1999, I reckon it was Bht 14.00/litre.

As we all know it is now approximately Bht 30.00/litre.

Does anyone know of a website that gives the accurate information for, let's say, the last 20 years? I've searched the net extensively and the information does not appear to be available.

Otherwise does someone without altzheimers remember the yearly figures so that I can produce a graph?

    Cheers

Note: I have found a couple of websites that indicate the pump prices over the years but it is given in US Dollars and there is no indication of the exchange rate that has been used in the conversion,

  9. I have looked at the train and bus routes but I would like to know from those living there - what is the most convenient way to get to Surin? I need to be ready to work at 8:30 in the morning so I am not so keen at arriving at 4:00am nor am I eager to spend a full day on a bus.

From a personal point of view I would only travel between Surin and Bangkok on the overnight sleeper (around Bht 1,000 one way - first class) unless there was a need to have the truck with us. Yes, the arrival time in Surin of around 4 am is a little early but you never know, F*t G*t may open early for you to have breakfast.

Travelling from Chiang Mai is a different kettle of fish.

  10. They are covered in some sort of sheer material, hiding the natural beauty, also the top section just under your prefered section is a little wide for my liking.

The focal point seems a little over exposed and is not crisp and clear.

Also the captured movement seems to give the feel of a handicapped dance contest.

    Sorry just my amateur appreciation.

Given that it was around 21:30 and dark and I was slightly fishcaked, I thought overall it wasn't too bad. BTW I was asked to refrain from taking any more photographs or I would be forceably ejected. The place has closed now.

  11. 36 trucks each 8m3

8 m3 trucks are big trucks, especially out in the sticks. The bog standard 4 wheelers up in this part of the sticks carry around 4 m3 of loose earth which in my experience generally compacts to 3.2 m3 or less (the type of earth can vary this figure). Therefore one 4 wheeler load can raise 1 talang wah by around 0.80 metres after initial compaction. One rainy season (which in my opinion is the minimum time to wait before building) would probably result in another 10% settlement.

So - get quotations for delivering earth per truck load (as has been said, the source and distance from the source can significantly vary the price) and work it out from there.

  12. Just tell them to put the bottle down on the table and leave it alone until you want another.

I know that Thais want to have some bird fawning over them but I will pour my own thanks.

Be careful, the locals may consider that such an action is doing a Thai out of a j*b!

    :o:D :D
