  1. Certain newly launched projects are offering prices ranging from Bt90,000 to Bt230,000 per square metre, compared to a price range of Bt150,000 to Bt200,000 per square meter offered by comparable new projects launched last year.

Am I the only one who thinks it obscene that many construction workers who work on these projects are paid less than 300 Baht per day?

"With the government's plan to raise the minimum daily wage to Bt300, residential prices are likely to rise further, as development costs will inevitably increase. Some pundits forecast a 5- to 7-per-cent increase in the prices of new condominiums," Suphin said.

Check Dubai, Qatar & Singapore. The Indians and Pakistanis there works for peanuts, here its the Burmese. Its really sad but not much you & me can do about it. I sometimes work in the Middle East (oil off-shore industry), talked to my Indian driver, he goes home for 1 month (sometimes less) every 11-12 month. Wife and 3 kids stay home :(, not good.

Not good but all relative, must be better than the situation in the home country where they have come from.....happens all over the world and will never be eliminated.

  2. What do you call an Aardvark that's been beaten up ?

Oh no.. this has turned into a what / why thread..... :whistling:

Windscreen wipers: I figured it was because some people believe that the heat will stick the rubber to the windscreen. However, I suspect it's more of a 'they do it, so it must be the thing to do' type reaction..... the more who do it, the more will copy.

    Another couple:

In the past I've been told to straighten the wheels after parking (reversing into a space for example) could it cause damage to the car?)

In the past I've been told to turn off the air-con before turning off the ignition (I never bother with this).

Why does everyone reverse into spaces in the shopping mall or supermarket when getting the shopping into the boot will be more difficult?

I follow the practice to turn off a/c before ignition, someone gave me a reason for this but i can't remember....i also park with my wheels straight for some reason, don't know why?

Reverse parking at malls - maybe they're only going to eat or getting a solitary bag?

    Sorry - brain freeze!!

  4. What about the end of the fight then, Mayweather's such a nonce!!!!

Quality interview at the end tho......

    JH

The good news was that we had a good showing in English without commercial breaks on Astrosports.

The rest I cannot talk about - it was depressing to watch.

But the interview with the old guy was priceless.....

  5. More important question-why do off duty cops wear only plain white t-shirts when they go out?

    LOL....

Why do Thai kids never change out of their school uniform??? When i was a boy we'd get out of our school uniforms as fast as possible so we could go out and play. Here you see kids in their uniforms at all times of the day AND night AND weekends - very peculiar...

  6. In the middle east the temps are 50C during about 4 months in the summer, never seen wipers melted....

    JH

Perhaps they can afford silicon wipers. ;) Perhaps 'melt' is not quite correct but soften and lose shape as random mentions with 'distorting'. It's the Thai reasoning for it whether it is correct or not.

Eff1n2ret mentioned sticking and on my older car, cheap wipers, they did that and left black marks from the rubber. My new car, haven't seen it happen though.

Possibly silicon, is there much difference in price? i have never had any problems here with blades getting distorted on any of my vehicles...

  7. Thanks for the replies and I have found out that most hospitals in Pattaya can do the PCR test for hep-c because they all send the blood to the lab in bkk and the cost is 3,950 THB. The results will take about 10 days.

The only reason that a person would use BKK/PATTAYA hospital for this is because you can get a better certificate in English that will clearly show any employer weather the 3 tests are - or +

I just personally avoid giving them any business if possible however I have to this time.

    Why?

  8. There are several "copy shops" on Therapasit Road, across from the huge condo complex that can scan and copy large pages. Had some architectural, blue print sized sheets scanned and copied there recently

I "think" that the place in Tukcom that had the large format printer is closed

    Thanks for the info

  9. The place on Therprasit appears to be real to me. I've been there

a couple of years back. The "grown-up" fights where "interesting",

with blood splatting all over the place, and you could see the guys

    where really getting hurt ...

The thing I didn't like was the small kids (5 years old and up) fighting.

One little boy was crying, and was definitely not "in to it", way to young

    in my opinion ...

When I was there they only had 3 "real" fights, and the rest where

    children ...

I don't remember the exact amount I payed but it was expensive,

    around 1000 baht per seat.

They advertise alot on walking street, look at the electric poles and

in some bathroom of various venues, they have posters with show

    times and fighters ...

    Cheers,

    rudi

What's the location on Theppasit rd?

  10. They ALL do it. I can hardly take a "natural" picture if they are looking at me taking a photo. It means nothing other than they are being friendly. It MIGHT have meant something special at one time, but not now.

You're right there - they do ALL do it, from a surprisingly young age also....

  11. That was "touching." As for me, an expat who has lived in Thailand on and off for over 20 years and traveled all over Asia, I am certain Thais (and I am generalizing now) are among the worst people (in terms of ethics and morality) in all of Asia. The surface smile (a culturally learned response and nothing more) when directed at a farang typically means, "Hello walking ATM, how can I cheat you today." I see a very rapid rise in xenophobia in Thailand--especially among young people. This will impact negatively tourism and Thailand's image as a good expat retirement destination.

    Thank you!!!!

I think several people in this thread still have on their rose tinted specs!

    JH

Or.....Thais have a word for it. Som Na Na. You get what you deserve. Maybe Karma is real?

Som nom na is actually quite a bit more rude in Thai actually, it translates to " serves your f**king right".........lovely huh???
