  1. He comes up with different excuses all the time to avoid fighting Paquio. Does Mayweather hold any sort of recognized belt at present?

I believe Paquio will fight in November of this year, is that correct?

    JH

No, Mayweather doesn't hold any belts. He has only fought twice in nearly 4 years. Any belts he held in 2007 were relinquished due to inactivity.

Belts don't mean anything to the boxing superstars. He refused to even pay the WBA sanctioning fees for the fight with Mosley so he wasn't eligible.

Pacquiao will be fighting Manual Marquez on November 12.

    Ok, thanks for the info

  2. They only wear the bin bag in public, not in the home. Even in arranged marriages nowadays they normally have time to decide whether they like each other or not.

Female circumcision only happens within certain countries and certain tribes at that, it is not widespread anymore.

I know that, and my original post was made in fun. But, I just replied to a "baited" reply. I have an American friend whose buddy in Afghanistan was shot by a male terrorist (freedom fighter ?) hiding under a burqua. In the war zones of Iraq and Afghanistan the "freedom fighters" often used women and children as shields.

I also have a sister in London, England, who has spent the past 20 years helping female refugees from the Middle East. Her stories are blood chilling and do NOT paint a very good picture of how women are treated in that area.

As far as female beauty is concerned in the Middle East I'm quite certain there are many who are stunning. The famous National Geographic picture of the young woman with the startling eyes is a good example.

But i think we forget about a lot of muslims who lead very normally family lives which is a shame as they are the majority. I have spent some time in the ME, some of the better places, Dubai / Qatar / Oman and also a few of the not so nice places, Iraq / Yemen. The later 2 and others have been sheltered from the infidels in the west and therefore still have a fair amount of, what a lot of westerners would consider medieval customs.

Jordan was another place i have spent time, they have some of the most stunningly beautiful women you will ever see, Lebanon also.

  3. Do you think he cared if you got lost or not?

    JH

I don't think he even thought about it. I believe he thought he had sent me to where I wanted to go. I believe that it was Tonto21 that said to take control over your OWN life and leave the rest to others. Life is an adventure worth living and the downfalls are often more memorable than the good days. They make for better stories later.

  4. Sales people here in this country will tell you what you want to hear to get the sale, lies included. Once you're out the door with your purchase they don't care. Most of them don't have a clue about the product or service they are selling, they don't care....

    JH

This is true, but not for how you represented it.

Yes, Thais will try to tell you what they THINK you want to hear, but that is only to be polite. It comes back to the "face" thing again. They don't want to lose face by showing they don't know what you want. That is a problem between a lot of Thai-western communication. I've had some funny experiences when asking directions from a Thai who spoke just enough English to answer me, but not enough to know what I asked. Just because I was sent off in the wrong direction does not mean it was intentional. It just means the Thai giving instructions was trying to be helpful but didn't know what I said.

Do you think he cared if you got lost or not?

  5. If it's a guy with a machine gun I'll be OK then. He'll probably go for the bigot (that's you by the way).

(D'oh! They always need telling, don't they?)

Oh, sorry for the aside, Ian. If it's a donkey, you'll probably be busy ... considering you've already said Iraqi women aren't human ...

PS Your smileys make your casual racism seem so much funnier :D :D :D

Actually, I don't have a racist bone in my body, unless telling the truth is considered racist. If a country treats its women like possessions, with no rights and little or no medical treatment, then they are backward. Obviously that doesn't include all Islamic countries, but the ones forcing women to wear burqas are. I can as a simple question... woud YOU choose a woman for a wife if you never got to see what she looked like? And, the practise of female circumcision to keep women subservient is abhorrent... whether or not you think it's okay.

  6. My experience ;

My wife borrowed money to buy our house, i guaranteed her loan with a copy of my work contract ( not in thailand ) pay slips for 6 months and bank statements for 6 months. Other documents we showed were marriage cert / my passport and her ID card. This was with SCB.

We paid this off pretty quick and then also borrowed again with the same documents.

I have to say both times we had put up 50% so the bank was only lending us the other 50%

    Hope this helps

    JH

Thanks JH.. Im currently getting a pension of 105k baht everymonth so im hoping i can be guarantor and maybe put 10 or 20 percent deposit down

I am by no means an expert but i think they may want to see a higher deposit, at the very least it would help the case.

There are many people on TV that will be able to give you a more definitive answer, i can only relate my situation.

    Good luck

    JH

Surely if i had nothing to do with it her being a thai national wouldnt have to put such a large deposit down...

Not sure about that? you may well be right, all the bank will be looking to do is protect their loan.

What's an agricultural / farmers loan? it may be a completely different kettle of fish than a standard mortgage, no idea?

  8. Normal Thai's a genrally decent people i agree....i spent 4 years in the boonies here, not another farang in sight and i have nothing but good memories...

The Thai's in any of the heavily populated tourist areas are generally c**ts!! FACT

So...you've figured out that there are created differences throughout the transitional class of Thais within their respective worlds, yes?

Deductive reasoning might provide the logic that separates the character transformaion.

Can you guess what element [elements] manufactures the difference in the two classes of Thai that you've provided above?

Is there a prize if i get it right?

I have had an entirely different experience. I have never had any problems returning any faulty equipment, I always find the sales staff as helpful as they can be, and if I know more about the product than they do, I'll do my best to help them along. WOW

I always have a positive experience when shopping in Thailand WOW , Hong Kong is another matterW

Maybe, just maybe, they feel your hatred towards them, they pick up your negative vibes ? No, they just don't care - already mentioned!

I pick up those vibes just from a few words on an anonymous forum. smile.gifWOW

What is this WOW crap, u wanna clue me in pal ?

They don't care about you, I can understand that, I don't care about you either. smile.gif

Like I said, maybe its the negative vibes you give off that makes Thai people wary of you, I never have and have never had any such problems at all.

    You're the problem m8.

Breaking news buddy - they don't care about you either - lol

  11. To post #35

Translating languages is not as straight forward as what everyone may think ( especially here in Thailand ), what the person is telling your wife and then what your wife is telling you or vice versa may be very different.

Point to note - you will lose a lot of respect from Thai's for having to drag your wife along to "translate".

    JH

I never had that problem loosing respect. In general i can follow a big part of the conversations so i don't worry that much about her translating wrong. If i were with a woman that i would not trust id be a fool and id leave her.

Why on earth stay with someone you don't trust. My Thai is far from perfect so in situations where it is important she will translate. Other then that friendly banter with the locals is not a problem.

I did not imply anything about trust purely that a lot can be lost in translation. Unless they speak both languages 100% fluently ( not many ) it can be very frustrating trying to translate and things may be substituted with something that is easier to say when the correct translation is not known.

You are 100% correct, you cannot stay with someone you do not trust

  12. I've lived here for 8 years and have a very positive experience of Thai people. Who are these farangs who always go on about government officials and the sharper end of tourism all the time? Let's talk about normal Thais - very decent people, very kind, and inclined toward a sense of humour. I spent 3 years in Japan and the culture there was very different. I always thought Japanese people were decent but that their culture made them kind of tough and cold. Thai culture is actually quite a care-free one when compared to other asian cultures. I know the "land of smiles" is a cliche, but it's largely true when you do compare other countries.

  13. There are 2 bars in Pattaya catering for the tomboy types.

Must say,i havent seen an upperclass lesbian in an estate bar lol

2?? you crazy? there's a lot more than that.....

    JH

Not saying I disagree but where are they Jeb?

There's quite a few round the back of Carefour ( Big C extra ) I had a friend that lived above one for a month there, it's quite the scene.....

There is also a couple on some of the smaller soi's of soi bukhao and some of the smaller sois of 3rd rd between Pattaya Tai and Pattaya Klang.

It's the same as anything in Pattaya in the entertainment scene, an abundance of everything if you look......... i'm not even a lesbian - lol

  15. I remember one post which went something on the lines 'beneath all the smiles, they have resentment against westerners' and I'm quite curious why they feel so.

    Because they're <deleted>.

    Agree completely. They hate foreigners.

I also think most members of these forums are men, they have a different..., er, agenda ( mostly ) and also they get treated a little different than us females as the Thai women are apt to view them as personal family ATM's and treat them accordingly. Also, the married ex pats have their Thai wives running interference for them, dealing with other Thais, etc and may really not be aware of the true ( IMO ) nature of the Thai mentality (Until she screws him over, of course, as evidenced by the myriad of threads running on the subject.)

When I go to Immigration for instance, the foreign men always have a Thai woman doing the talking. They almost never have to really deal with anything on their own. I think they are sheltered from realities.

This is absolutely true and very pathetic. They seem to be joined at the hip and unable to do anything alone, banks / immigration / ordering food / crossing the road - you see it everywhere everyday, very pathetic....

  16. I no longer pay for a haircut. I bought some electric buzzers and the g/f gives me a number 2 for free. 350 Baht for the buzzers = 3 1/2 haircuts at my local place. After that they are all free. Except for the electric

Cheap beer? With music until 2 a.m. The Shagwell at 60 Baht for a large Chang / Leo / Cheers after midnight.

Pretty reasonable food there too Gammon steak with pineapple, egg, chips, veg. 145 Baht. Chicken & mushroon pie with chips and mixed veg 145 Baht.

    Cheap? I like cheap :)

350 for electric buzzers, that sounds like a great price. Where did you pick them up, and are you happy with the quality?

I haven't been looking around that much, but did see some for sale at an unmanned stall, at the bottom floor of TukCom.

Granted that equals almost 6 haircuts at my local barber, :) but would be nice to have a set at home.

For 350 baht they won't last ling, before you know they will be dull and pull rather than cut hair!

  17. Mayweather is a pussy, he needs to grow a set and fight Paquio ( spelling ? )

    JH

He's probably waiting for Pacquiao to retire - which he certainly will do by the end of next year. Perhaps we may see Pacquiao fight 3 more times.

He told the press not long ago that Pacquiao is next, then he contradicted himself a few days ago by saying he never said that. He's already making stupid excuses saying that Pacquiao must get his financial affairs in order - suggesting that he wouldn't be interested in fighting for an even purse split.

He comes up with different excuses all the time to avoid fighting Paquio. Does Mayweather hold any sort of recognized belt at present?

I believe Paquio will fight in November of this year, is that correct?

  18. The funny thing is that when see a farang upset at something that a Thai person has done invariably the Thai person has no idea what has made the farang angry.

I pull up and ask "Why is Farang shouting?" Thai person concerned says "don't know - maybe Farang ting tong".

What a waste of effort on the part of the farang.

If only people would just accept "home team rules" in any country that you visit and accept that everything is not going to go your way.

    Jai Yen Yen!!

And in my years of staying here in Thailand,,i have lost count on how many Thais i have seen losing it also....there is only so much jai yen yen you can take rolleyes.gif

Yes, there is also a big difference in Jai Yen Yen and being walked all over!!!!
