  1. I hope so too. It would make a refreshing change for the BBC to make a comedy that is actually funny. Seems that the writers nowadays think that inserting F*** or C*** every 5 minutes makes a show funny. It doesn't! It just makes me cringe.
  2. I don't stay in hotels as much as I used to but I will always tip the cleaners 20 Baht a day unless they give me a reason not to want to tip them. If they give me a reason to tip more then I will. 20 Baht is nothing to me, but if the cleaners got 20 Baht from every room that they clean, it can make a big difference to them. They deserve respect for doing an unpleasant job for minimum wage to take care of their families.
  3. I find it somewhat interesting that they decide to perform an autopsy in this case. Yet following the unexplained death of the diver (in KhoTao?) last week didn't warrant an autopsy!
  4. How is that cheap? That's nearly 10 times what I paid for my legitimate 2 year licences!
  5. I can only think that they have based this on "think of a number and double it"! They have also not considered the laws of supply and demand. That is (in Thailand) If demand is higher than supply, increase prices. If supply is higher than demand , increase prices. If there were such an increase in tourist numbers, prices would go through the roof and Thailand will no longer be attractive to tourists.
  6. I don't know what sort of nightlife you are looking for. As you have already been to Udon, you will have been to Day & Night (or is it Night & Day?). Be warned, there is nothing like that in Khon Kaen. Most of the nightlife in KK is set up for the Thai youth. The Farang bar scene is quite subdued and as already stated centered near the Pullman hotel. If you like extremely noisy Thai bars, walk out of the Pullman, turn left and left again and that road is full of them. I think that the Thai bars close at different times depending on how many customers they have. Certainly some are open until 3AM. Farang bars also seem to close when the customers leave but I am usually done by 1AM, so not sure. In the post above mine, MrJ2U says "Bus station and train station all within walking distance. ", he is obviously not talking about KK as the bus station is way out of town. Railway station is close though. If there are any Tuk Tuks around at night in KK, they are few and far between. Most bars/restaurants will call you a taxi. Taxi's are very reasonable and most trips around KK will be 100 Baht maximum. There may be a small late night surcharge.
  7. Is gambling on the World Cup so dangerous that they should wear helmets??
  8. There are plenty of people that do not have this amount of cash that they can transfer to an Indonesian bank but have a sizeable pension or other income. Why exclude those people? Also people who can deposit $128,000 are not necessarily going to spend any more than those who can only afford $50,000.
  9. I did my first online report just over a year ago and it was my first 90 day report after getting the extension in September 2021. I have done every report since online including my last report which was also the first report after getting an extension. So there is no such rule. I think that there may be some rule about the first 90 day report after entering Thailand, but I am not sure about that.
  10. Have you any idea how ridiculous you sound. As I stated, the guy was convicted of waging war against God. Waging war against God can be anything that these religious nutters want it to be. So they can convict anyone they like and sentence them to death.
  11. It depends on how ridiculous the law is! He was convicted of "waging war against God." which carries the death sentence. Did they call God as a witness? Well, of course not. Do you honestly think that he got a fair trial?
  12. Many years ago there was a mange ridden dog in our area. Hardly any hair left. I saw that it started sleeping on a pile of discarded cement bags. Incredibly, its hair grew back and it looked quite healthy. So maybe cement dust is a good cure.
  13. You know, I have had numerous conversations with fellow Englishmen over the last couple of weeks. I am quite sure that the 1966 World Cup has not been mentioned even once. It is only the Television presenters that ever mention it. Englishmen do not go on about it.
  14. I had already answered that question. Quote is in the next post.
  15. They did not go home with their tails between their legs after the 2018 semi-final. Only 4 teams can achieve that and it is something to be proud of. Funny, I must have missed all the interviews where England players and manager have spouted about how great they are. They may have confidence, but they know when they have a tough game coming up and have often said as much. If they do go out in the game against France, they can return to England with heads held high. There is certainly no shame in losing to France, so the England team will not be returning with their tails between their legs. Concerning the Euros final, England don't have a great record with penalty shoot-outs and again, there is no shame in losing to Italy. They got to the final after all and only lost on penalties! England can be proud of their performance so far in this World Cup as can other teams. USA and Japan should be proud of themselves as well.
  16. Why do you think that they will go home after tomorrow's game? Which game are you referring to? England are not playing tomorrow! They played in the semi-final in 2018. I don't think that their tails were between their legs then.
  17. Did you actually watch the game? Japan were the much better team and totally dominated in the first half. I might agree with you that Croatia's game was somewhat tedious.
  18. I had never met my landlord as the condo office sorted out the contract etc. I was notified that the landlord wanted to do an inspection, but he was actually showing a prospective buyer. Some weeks later I had a note pinned to my door. The landlord had sold the unit and I had 5 days to vacate! So yes, some buyers will expect you to get out, whether you want to stand firm because you have a contract, well that's up to you. In my case, I still had 2 months of my contract to run and I couldn't believe my luck. I was looking to move because the noise situation there had become practically unbearable. Of course, if I had broken the contract, there is no way that I would get my deposit back. So 5 days later I was in my new place and I got the full deposit back.
  19. I think that the confusion with roundabouts is because there are so few of them in Thailand. At a crossroads with no defined right of way, you must (or should) give way to the left. Many Thais think that this also applies on roundabouts, but it is the opposite, give way to the right.
  20. Something is cheaper in Bangkok! It cost me 500 Baht in Khon Kaen earlier this year, but it was issued within 30 minutes. They forgot to give me the receipt though.
  21. Why would they have closed at midnight on Saturday? Awk Pansa is today (Monday).
  22. I doubt that any treaty says that they have to give asylum to people escaping from France! Mind you, they should be deported back to France, not Rwanda.
