I agree with you - to a point. I find it annoying when I speak Thai and they reply in English when their English is extremely poor and I find it very difficult to understand what they are saying. I am far from fluent in Thai, so if their English is better than my Thai, I am happy to speak English with them. If they ask if they can practice their English with me, I am happy to comply.

One For The Old Guys - Morrisey Live in Bangkok 18th August
loong replied to Neeranam's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I used to go to the Winter Gardens in Margate quite often to see bands. The Smiths performed there in 1985 or thereabouts. I wasn't overly enthusiastic about going to see them, but I was really glad that I did. It was a great night. -
The company is basically defunct. It is not possible to sell the shares as they are not tradeable.

You seemed to have completely missed the obvious fact that my reply was tongue in cheek. The post that I was replying to listed "Quality" tourists and that post also included a bit of tongue in cheek. Considering that there were so few arrivals from Kuwait, it is amazing how often Kuwaitis have been in the news recently with their antics in Pattaya. That is why when someone listed certain counties as "Quality" tourists I replied "Don't forget Kuwait!" Do you understand now?

Rice price hikes worry restaurant owners, some pass costs to diners
loong replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
When was the last time that you saw an increase of 1 Baht for a meal? With the rice price increase, it probably means an additional cost of 20 or 30 Satang per meal, but they would increase the cost to the customer by 5 or even 10 Baht. -

I agree with you. Conditions look better than a lot of Brits have to live in and if I was a refugee I would be grateful for the accommodation. Why should the government continue to pay 800 pounds of taxpayers' money every week to house them in hotels? -
Rice prices skyrocket in Thailand due to drought effects and export ban
loong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There isn't a supply glut. I guess that India's export ban has pushed up global prices and created more demand for Thailand's rice. If Thailand exports more rice, there is less supply for the domestic market -
Rice prices skyrocket in Thailand due to drought effects and export ban

I don't think that anyone would pay 117 baht for a kilo of white rice! Prices may be rising but I bet the farmers that harvest around November will see prices for paddy rice fall again -
It rings a bell with me as well. I seem to remember something about being able to sue someone for having sex with your wife. That would have been over 20 years ago though.

The 800K does not need to come from abroad. If doing an extension based on income it does. -
Thailand’s household-debt storm taking deadly toll on guarantors
loong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Years ago, my GF at the time co-signed a loan for a friend who was buying a pick-up. I told her that she should not do it as when the friend defaults, she will be responsible for paying back the loan. She didn't believe me as she had no idea what she was signing. The problem is that many people are very naïve about debt and are incapable of doing very simple mathematics. The amount of people that struggle to survive on their income will borrow money that they cannot possibly repay. It is very simple to work out that if every month, at the end of the month, all of the person's earning have been spent on necessities, there will be nothing left to service a loan. Yet they will take out a loan and seem to believe that the additional x thousands of Baht that they need to repay each month will magically appear from somewhere!- 52 replies

Thai rainfall faces below-average levels as El Niño prompts dry spell

That surprises me as here in Khon Kaen we have had a lot of rain recently. Very heavy most of the time, not showery. -
Weird practises at Thai banks
loong replied to StayinThailand2much's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I pay my rent to an SCB bank account every month using the deposit machine. I do not need to insert any card and I just input the bank account number. I know that they were going to introduce the need to insert a card last year but it was never actually done. -
Weird practises at Thai banks

Been a few years since I deposited money inside a bank (usually small amounts but up to 30,000 Baht), never been asked for my passport. -
Bangkok municipal pupils can wear hair styles and clothes of their choice
loong replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Hardly an unprecedented move! Maybe they were the original rules but they were changed maybe 8 to10 years ago. At that time individual schools were still allowed to make their own rules though.
