  1. in LP,there are many budget hotels or hostels at the back of the Post office. it's only a few mins by walk from the nite market where you can exchange your dollars. There are not many things to do in LP. You can explore the most of it within a few days i guess. While you are there you can use Baht, $US and the local currency, Keap. I paid a tour ticket and my room in dollars. but better to have some Keap as they don't give you a good exchange rate.

i paid some food in Keap too. Most of products are from Thailand then their prices are a bit higher. for example, a bottle of red bull costs B10 in LOS but in Laos is B15. Net Cafes charged me per minute.

Vang Vieng is another town. It's between Vien Tian and LP. there are some activities you can do such as biking, kayaking and camping. the town is located near Nam Song river and lots of things to do with water though. I haven't been there yet.

Loas people are quite honest. No hassle! No scam!

    Beer loas is good taste...

  2. met an aussie, adelaide married with a thai, udon. He understands her by osmosis..........

    Me go= i go,

    they house =their house,

    she car = her car,

    I not know = i don't know,

same me = same as me

his English then became like her's when speak to others.

    link

  3. one might also add that vast number of members have been banned, or simply abandoned the site as it developed its present form and policies or reckon that 10,000 plus posts is a tragic rather than grand achievement.

Yep -- a lot of very sad stuff about this forum.

Obvious example is that we live in Thailand and are not allowed to state that the number one English-language newspaper is the Bangkok Post.

It's sad to the point of being pathetic. Think about it. Some little moderator (AKA school teacher) will now come along, delete this post and send send me a warning.

yeah, Bkk post is the best one in LOS... everyone knows

  4. So, in regular bars (meaning not a gay bar, or ladyboy bar) how likely is it that you'll encounter ladyboys? And in that case, how likely is it that they'll hit on a guy and maybe take it further without telling them they haven't always been a "lady"?

It's hard to differentiate 'em. Hum....

shemales have bolls. Try that please.

    in case, they don't

have a quick chat. Think you should know if she is M or F.

spy when she goes to toilet. :D

before your hunt .... have a little bit of preparation then....<_<

    shemale test G' luck

    feMale or shemale?

  5. I am not really interested as to who they are and why they feel the urge to exploit young thai girls.

What I can't take is their moaning once they been ripped off /doubled.

I mean what do they expect ? Been loved for who they are ? laugh.gif

    Who is exploiting who?

Exactly so, my point is : Don't come moaning afterward !

from my point of view, I see the Japanese underestimated that Thai chick.....

    PlayBoy vs PlayGirl .;)

  6. might be off topic but what is that Oxy whatever chocolate that I have seen?

Also try Paragon as it might be there, alternatively there is a great chocolate shop in Central World, they might have vegan chocolate

Central World and Paragon are a joke, they call themselves "Gourmet market" but are nothing more than a collection of all main industrial junk sweets in western world.

I did not see a single piece of real chocolate there. All industrial crap.

And indeed they did not have soya milk chocolate, they never even heard of it.

They don't even know there are Soya Milk Chocolates available.....

Agree they have all craps we can grab some anywhere.

  7. Yes and it is expensive. I have AIS sim and pay 70 baht per minute when someone calls me in the usa. the caller pays the same rate no matter where you are when they call you meaning no extra cost to them. most thai carriers charge the same rates for intenatinal roaming such as DTAC and true.

I did get on a plan before the last time i went to the usa so now i pay now about 30 baht per minute when roaming there now.

retuning a call with an sms is cheap though and that is what i do when it is not important.

    correct!!!!

    and costly

  8. what you wrote is very much in details. Even supplied the exactly times,7 am,11 pm and 8 am in this chronic story.

Have to admit that there are many Thai Bitches around notwithstanding there are some good girls too. Wanna say that we need to spend a little more time to find 'em. All the glitters is not gold.!!!!! I can say he isn't the worst.......

Have met a Thai lady with 3 kids from 3 different fathers by chance. Well, the story behind this i dunno.

    Though, it ain't my business.:whistling:

  9. I wish the UK would adopt dual pricing.

There are children who just can't visit historical sites that are their heritage because of the high cost of entry, whilst to rich tourists from this part of the world and others, it's loose change!

Edit: In UK - Brits free, the rest.......whatever the invisible hand decides. ;)

The last time i was at the london museums . last June they where all free.

Been there long time ago. Still free? the mummies !!!! and others. cool....

Shanghai museum is also free for every one. I took lots of photos too.

  10. Tell em you went to see some higher monk than theirs and they said not give any money for house building for 20 years. Then add anyone asking for money would have a terrible curse put on them etc etc

Ill be building my house when Im ready and any monks mumbo jumbo little green men wrong type of bad luck trees nobody born here on a Tuesday etc can take a running jump. It may surprise many readers but some Thais dont believe in this crap either.

+1 he should do what you said above.

don't have your hair cut on Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and born in a particular year has to fix it up by giving?

    a bunch of bullshit!!!!!!!!

  11. I Don't believe in anything especially those are not explainable by science or against my logic. If yah have t0 live or spend time with these people, I know it's hard. Gotta need lots of patience.

might be some true!!!!!!! but count me out....for the supernatural

  12. To these nasty dogs? Nope , I definitely ain't.

Can say that i hit many of 'em kinda self defense. I don't hate dogs. I meself is a Veg. I find it hard to discover that dog's meat is in a menu served in VN(boiled or BBQ). have seen that menu by meself. Guess each one 'o us has own technique(s) to deal with dogs, aggressive, non-aggressive. Most of dogs try to make 'emself look fearsome then they are. Gotta experience it....though

  13. This is an extreme example of the problem, but on a smaller scale this is experienced by people trying to settle in Thailand all the time. I know many folk with similar issues, who have bought a nice house only to have some eyesore or cacophony of noise appear next door after a couple of years. Normally there is little they can do about it. It's one of the ever present uncertainties of living here. If you can't handle it I advise leaving. In civilized countries are are at least some avenues of justice, but generally not here.

    the Noise pollution ?

To The OP ,my problem ain't the same but in the similarity. have you found any real solution lately? understand how you feel. I have this, "a couple of bands rotating in the neighboring areas". They will start from approximately at 20.00 to 24.00 everyday. And it starts to get louder as it gets later in the nite. It will be many times more intensify than a usual nite if they have a special Thai popular singer/group happen to perform at these places. I have to keep all the windows shut at nite and turn on the a/c. The first few days, I don't feel too much irritating from whence it comes. A month later, I have this over and over again, probably the same songs/lyrics including Zombie and some 80's songs everynite then I fed up with it. I called the cop 191 and reported they, the cop said their officers can be there to temporarily warn them about the loud noise and to pause a quick break. The suggestion for the long-term solution is to have an official petition submitted to the municipal authorities. Because they can grant the permissions for these establishments and on the other hand they can cancel those who jeopardize the society. People said the owners are "Sen Yai(thick flat noodles)"

  14. It never ceases to amaze me how little people know about dogs.

They are a non-nomadic pack animal, in remote locations they are on the verge of becoming feral..... a lone stranger entering their territory will always be treated the same way, lots of gesturing accompanied with loud barking, they are sussing you out as an unknown quantity, throwing rocks or sticks may alleviate the situation temporarily but if you take that action once, you will have to do it every time.

I'm sorry, but that just isn't true... I like dogs and don't go out of my way to hurt them, but I am not willing to accept having them snapping at my feet when I ride my bike.

There are three dogs on my soi that when I first moved here used to bark and run at me every time I went up the soi. My solution was to fit a small bag on my bike handlebars, with good sized rocks in it so that every time I went down the soi I could grab one in my hand. I then rode slowly and chucked it at any dog that had a go at me (I also kept rocks in my motorbike basket and did the same with them).

Actually, I have only hit two of the dogs with good hard throws (once each), but all three dogs now run off the road with their tails between the legs as soon as I turn onto the soi. The funny thing is that they do it whether I am on my motorbike or bicycle, and it really is as soon as I enter the soi, perhaps 50m away from them! It's quite comical to see them trying desperately to squeeze between their gate bars with their tales between their legs... JOB DONE

I didn't really hurt them, but the hunted definitely became the hunter... I now keep my handlebar bag topped up with rocks and fear no dogs on my rides out. cool.gif

    we've found it. a dog-buster!!!!!:D

  15. From my point of view, foreigners should pay higher prices when it is clearly established. I did not feel ripped off when I saw at the phuket aquarium that I had to pay 100 baht vs 50 baht for the gf. I didn't get too upset when I saw in chumphon a massage shop that had different pricing clearly posted on the wall. (50 baht more).

Just curious about your thoughts on the Grand Palace. I went today. Thai's are free and others are 350 baht (clearly labeled). I felt 350 was a little high but paid it anyways since it was about the same as the Forbidden City in Beijing.

it reminds me of Ankor Wat. I paid $30 for a day ticket on the other hand the locals paid Nil.

  16. it depends where you wanna go.

Hue - Tah Chilek,Laos + Nakorn panom or mukda harn North East, no info.

    SaiGon - PP,Cam.,

Hanoi - i got a bus from Vien Tian,Laos. took me more than 24 hrs on a sleeping bus = B500. it takes too long. buses leave at 17.30 -18.00

try to intercept a bus from Tah Chilek,Laos+ Nakorn panom,North East, ...... i guess. or mukda harn

  17. haha.. good technique ..

The solution is easy - just STOP.

Some dogs just enjoy chasing, if you stop then they will stop too.

And yes, I have put this in action and found it works. If everyone had the sense to do it then the dogs would realise their is no 'fun' anymore and stop chasing bikes etc.

That is good advice, and it works! I have stopped too many dog attacks to count by simply stopping. If running, stop and turn and face the dog. Show no emotion--especially fear. That usually confuses the dog and it stops its natural behavior which is to run and chase down a prey. I have also done the same on a motorcycle and it worked. I did not get off the motorcycle, just stopped and turned and looked at the dog and he stopped. A pack of dogs might be a bit different. The was chased by four dogs once while jogging. I froze like a statue. They surrounded me, growling...sniffing. It was scary! But they never bit me. Remember that you can't outrun a dog.

    to the OP

"unfriendly dogs running free and able to effectively block the road" Well, it doesn't matter where you are. these dogs behave similarly,Thailand. Cos' I also experienced the same as of what you had described in the writing. Sorry for the accident!!!.

What I will do when I encounter 'em usually are :coffee1: 1.get down from my push bike and stare at them and most of the time, they will stop suddenly of what they are doing and  wonder a bit. Might think why I don't fear them. Don't make yourself look you like you scar 'em. Do you know they are frightened of us more than we are frightened of 'em? And slowly walk away with great care. Once you are in their territories, they dogs psychologically have such great encouragement though. Or 2.if they chase me from behind and if they are close enough, I will slow down and hit 'em normally their heads with one of my feet. I have to. And of course they will deter and turn away. For the situation of a group of dogs, if you hit one and others see it they will quickly run away like he***ll too :D . And sometimes, I miss the target they will intensify the level of the noise violently and move aggressively. Just ignore them and slowly move 'till fade away.

Well, I wanna say that I had the same problem before and I got better when dealin' with them too many times. :vampire: If you can use a sling-shot for these nasty dogs, it's OK and morally acceptable to protect yourself from getting bitten. They are just some silly dogs.:jerk:

    Huge dogs!!!! i dunno!!
