  1. If you get a new passport, please take care that the Embassy also issues some kind of statement that the new passport replaces the old passport (including passport # of the old passport).

Some countries print this statement in the new passport.

A few years ago, my Embassy issued a new passport.

Went to the Immigration in order to re-stamp my visa into my new passport.

My visa was about to expire in 7 days and in 6 days I was about to leave the country.

Immigration connected the 2 passports and told me to offer both passports to Immigration at the airport.

    No problem what so ever.

  2. I'm a water drinker myself and I know of some discussions on several forums about this.

Bar owners were involved in the discussions and in general the reason for this is:

water is in the "soft drink" category and cost as much as a Sprite, a Coke or any soft-drink.

Some bars do have lower prices for "just" water and a lot of people just took a bottle of water in order to save on drinking-expenses.

That the price of a bottle of water is doing 600-700% of the original price is a pitty, but customer's behavior in the past urged to this unpleasant measure.

By the way, you can ask the same question for a cup of coffee or tea...........cost price is in general around THB 10 incl. creamer and sugar. wink.gif

  3. gdesu1, let's put it this way............a bar is running 'low'.

The owner decides to give it a go with a dj.

If the owner can deal with a good dj he will see his business grow.

The dj is found and after a few days the crowd finds out about the new dj in town.

The "colleagues" of the bar-owner were happy until they found out that the new dj was a hit.

dam_n, someone is successful and must be taken care of.

Since the dj did have a WP (obviously) they had to find another way to shut him up...........and yes.........the musical BIB's know that 99.9% of the dj's burn their own cd's.

One and one is three in this case.

Still interested in becoming a dj in Thailand?

  4. As far as my experience goes, applying for a WP as a teacher requires a statement from the Ministry of Education, that you are allowed to teach in Thailand (e.g. Thai Teachers License).

One of the requirements of the MoE is having at least a BA and preferably in a relevant field.

Over the years rules have changed and there was a Thai Teacher Course introduced which covered/overruled university-requirements or even TEFL/TESOL/CELTA qualifications. I'm not in the business anymore, so this might not be up-to-date. Sorry.

  5. Obviously, there is no room for that anymore.

The furniture-outlet where the auctions take place is demolished 50%.

Will it be a new outlet or just another condominium-complex?

  6. At the darkside side opened Soi Khao Talo hamburger service,

beefburgers start at 79 bath and they use real gouda cheese on their cheeseburgers.

They also sell some dutch specialties like kroket and frikandel special.

Real junkfood ,worth trying, opesite eakmongkol 2/1

i think tey open from 18.00 till midnight.jap.gif

  7. AFAIK they changed this 30 day to 15 day permit-thing and at the same time, they skipped the 90-day-per-180-day-rule.

Obviously they thought that nobody would be so sick to do a border-run every 14 days.

Never heard of any problem of questions asked in granting another 15 days in a long row.

It's generally known, that some Immigration Offices at borders/neighboring consulates do have problems with back-to-back tourist-visa.

  8. ED-visa............

only submitted by the Thai Immigration Office. There is no language-, cooking- or music school who can sell an ED-visa.

What they sell is education, that's the only thing they are allowed to sell.

If you buy one of their products, you do have the possibility to obtain an ED-visa with the help of the educational institute in cooperation with the Thai Ministry of Education. Of course: Conditions apply.

What schools do is offering 2 services: a course and visa-assistance. If a school claims to give a FREE Thai language course, and you have to pay THB 24,000-THB 25,000, you probably pay for the ED-visa and that's illegal, because it's something the school isn't allow to sell. Apart from that, a specific language school with a purple outlook is doing pretty well in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai (and Phuket?). Do not have personal experiences with them, can only judge on what I see.

Of course it attracts more students if you say that you offer free lessons instead of offering a free visa-service, understandable.

I used to be working for/with a Thai Language School in Pattaya. A few month ago we closed our doors..............

    - immigration officers became more and more greedy

    - students enrolled for the course and never showed up **

    - Thai Ministry of Education and Immigration Office asked more and more ridiculous requirements

** of course, if you enter a course with a 90 day ED-visa - single entry and you never attend one single class, you won't make it through the first visa-extension after 90 days.

  9. Decorum Furniture next to Friendship on South Pattaya Road.

    Bring lots of cash.

Uhm, not sure, but I saw a Decorum on Thepprasit Road. 2/3 of the stretch from Sukhumvit on the left side.

Looking on their website "contact" the map shows 'next to Friendship' and the address is Thepprasit........how clear can it be.

Anyway, there is a Decorum along Thepprasit. http://www.decorum-t.../contactus.html

There is also Euro Design along Sukhumvit next to the new McDonalds in between South Pattaya road and Central Pattaya Road http://www.euro-desi...contact-us.html

Then there is Modern Form in the Home Works Plaza next to Big C South Pattaya: http://www.modernfor...&s=sout-pattaya

Yes, and why not.......in a few months Ikea Bang Na will open its doors...........Halleluya.......paradise finally opens!! ph34r.gif

Next time I have to read all the posts first whistling.gif

  10. My husband bought some from Robinsons.Just in the mens shoe wear section. They are sold as trekking boots or similar.

Excuse me. Where is there a Robinsons in Pattaya? The closest I know of is in Sri Racha.

whistling.gif sssst BB1950......that's the only store that's not in PTT. Don't tell anyone.

    But the nearest..........yes, Sri Racha.

If you would like to buy REAL safety shoes, try one of the homepro-like- stores first.

Those shoes should have a steel sole-plate too.

The cheap ones are perfect for hiking, but if something heavy falls on the toe-section of the shoe, you might loose your toes, they'll be cut off.

Steel-sole-plate and steel-toe-protection should be ONE part.

  11. Is this what Thai Visa has been reduced to? Somebody driving home sees a car with two flat tyres parked at the side of the road and wants to start a thread to find out what happened! Ye Gods. <deleted> get a life. No wonder all the interesting posters have disappeared. Pathetic!

No, then better participate in a discussion about a woman and her diapers.............what and who is pathetic here? annoyed.gif

  12. As you drive up Soi Khao Talo past Eastern Grand Palace and over the train track, keep heading up the road untill you see on the left an area of waste ground. There is a very good cake shop opposite that waste ground. Not sure of the name. If you see the yellow bank on the left, you have gone to far. Its about a 1 minute drive once you cross the train tracks. Or 30 seconds dependant on your speed.

They also do lost of little buns and things too. Very clean and profesional looking. We walked in on the afternoon of my birthday and got a cake and had my name put on it. Never even pre-ordered. Everyone commented on how good it tasted, Falang and Thai.

idd......don't know the name either, but it is in between the entrance of Aekmongkol Villages 1 and 3; they also do fresh baked bread.

They do the typical "chemical bombs" but also a choice out of high quality and tasteful cakes with fresh fruit.

  13. Drove along Soi Khao Noi and passed the new Tesco Express.Parked in front was a Toyota Vigo with 2 flat tires on the right side, loads of bib and people around the vehicle.Anyone knows?

  14. ^it seems to happen every year that there's 4 weekends in a row that bars are closed. It's 15 & 16 July that's the Buddhist holy days and 17th is a substitution day.

DocW, if you don't think Thais get drunk on election days just stick around, they just buy a bottle of lao khao the day before and enjoy the day off and don't bother voting unless someone in a red shirt pays them.

And the 17th is Pattaya marathon too.

    According to my calendar:

    15 (Friday) Assalha Pucha Day

    16 (Saturday) Buddhist Lent Day

18 (Monday) is the substitution day for 16.

17 is not special apart from the marathon.

  15. Beware: some may think that their retirement-visa requirement of THB 800,000 will be parked best on a fixed-deposit account in order to get more interest.

Some immigration offices do NOT accept fixed-deposit accounts.

  16. Please Clarify.

Do all Work Permits require a University Degree ? I have never had to show in the past (I dont have one). I am Married to a Thai and wish to apply for O Visa, how does this apply to me. I would like to come see you to get this sorted out. Please call me 086780 3801. MB

To clarify: All work permits require an education certificate. They did not specify that the minimum must be a BA or BS but that you must show an education certificate. Apologies if the original post was unclear, it should have read : eg: BA, BS, etc.

Additionally, please note that the office is closed after 6 p.m. so any participation by us would take place when we are open, so apologies to anyone who felt that their questions were not answered after that, everyone was at home.

Sunbelt, in your OP you submit a WP form and the required documents, in there is clearly stated:

    Regarding the proof of education:

OR you have to proof that you have completed a certain relevant education as a BA, MBA, etc. (degrees and transcripts)

OR you must have a letter from a previous employer that you do have certain abilities allowing you to work in the Kingdom

OR you must have a letter from your future employer stating that you do have certain abilities which are valuable to him.

  17. I'm confused.

Section 3.3 of the form attached by Sunbelt and the better ones from the MoL site states as the requirement:-

Copy of certificate of education OR

    Recommendation from previous employer OR

    Recommendation from prospective employer

Why confused? It's clear as water.

Obviously, most posters are so anxious to post a load of crap, that they didn't see your post, which explains it all.

  18. Didn't really bother to go trough the thread, but there isn't any change..........just another action to tighten the rules.

Regarding the medical certificate: I needed one on every renewell, but not specifically for blood type and/or any specific disease

    Pictures: may have been changed.

I think that Sunbelt was remembered by the nearest immigration office on how things should be taken care of.

For teachers: Usually the Immigration or Labor Department doesn't ask for a degree.......it's more the Ministry of Education, they also ask for a certificate of good behavior. Ministry of Edcuation will submit a 'teachers' license' instead of employer letters of educational documents. Well, at least this was the case until now (Chonburi province)
