  1. Yet another topic on advice for flying with a baby gets hijacked by the undesirable fathers of the world with the usual nonsense.

Not all flights are the same and circumstances can trigger a change in a baby's mood very fast which can turn the flight from good to bad very fast. Last time i flew the captain did not turn off the seat belt light for 3 hours so i could not use the bassinet and i had flown on the 9 pm flight to coincide with my daughters sleep pattern. It made the journey harder than it should of been but i managed ok.

Also not all baby's are the same so what works for one probably wont work for another, just try your best and keep your cool if they get upset. The larger planes are great cos they have a couple of galleys to walk around to and try pass some time

Those who prefer not to be near screaming children whilst trapped in a pipe at 38,000 ft., does not make them undesirable fathers, or any other negative term you can dream up in an attempt to denigrate them.

It makes them normal human beings because that situation is NOT normal, it is NOT desirable and most often, it is NOT something even parents with 2 brain cells between them, will ever try to make somebody else feel guilty for.

Having children only changes your perspective. It does nothing for the rest of us.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    (Signed),

    The Rest of the World.

The way you go on its like this is a new situation. It is normal. Kids have been flying for years and will continue to do, so get a boat next time if you wish or would you rather people with kids had no holidays, no trips home from working abroad or visits to see old or dying parents just so you are happy.

I never want anyone to feel sorry for me when i'm flying with kids. My kids, my responsibilities

Maybe if you have kids one day your perspective will change and i'm sure it will

  3. As your child will most likely be too big for the bassinet, book 3 seats out of the 4 of the middle rows(not window seats) leaving one in the middle free. There is a good chance they will leave that other seat you didn't book free unless the plane is full to the hilt meaning you will get the seat for free. If somebody takes it you just swap with them.

I booked 2 seats out of the 4 with Etihad and left a empty seat between me and my wife. They put no one in the empty seat and also moved a guy from the isle seat leaving us with the whole row to ourselves.

  4. Hi all.

Any hotels in these areas with rooms suitable for 3 adults and 2 young kids. Being checking Agoda and most of them just allow you to rent a extra bed. Only one i have really seen that is 2 bedroom is the Swiss Palm in Patong that is in my price range. Price of about 4000-5000 Baht per night. Preferably not far from the beach. Only other option is renting 2 rooms but i'd prefer 1 room.

    Cheers

  5. Well - I think that it is great that there are banks open on a Sunday and some of the restaurants are pretty good - especially for Chaweng.

Powerbuy is OK, but not a regular visit.

Good parking thumbsup.gif and nice to have lots of regular places under one roof.

Looks good to me too. As i said in my OP i am looking for something for the kids to do for a hour instead of the beach all day and after reading a blog on what they have for kids it sounds fairly good . Obviously its a improvement on what was there before and i don't live there so for me it will be fine for a few days.

  6. Believe it or not I found it to be Pattaya. The Teddy Bear Museum, Nong Nooch Garden and the Aqua world on the third road are all very good, and there's a few other little things as well. I thought Phuket was pretty disappointing on the kids front.

It looks like we will be in that area. Close to Bangkok and plenty to do. It's amazing what you would do to make kids happy. I said I'd never visit pattaya again. Will stay in jomtien ang go to pats when needed

Jomtien's getting as bad as Pattaya, there are few nice hotels directly on the small beach between Pattaya and naklua now, around 1800 a night, nice rooms and swimming pool, that might be a better bet. Very quiet as there are no roads or nightlife nearby. Royal Garden plaza is okay and the old thhi/chinese market just on the way to nong nooch is interesting also.

i haven't been to jomtien since 2005 so i can't be sure what its like now, thats why i was looking for advice.

    thanks for the tip.

  7. hmm... 50 years ago we didn't know anything about kids' high chairs and many didn't have the money to buy a pram, let alone complain about pavements. For me, a kid friendly environment means not noisy at night, a clean beach to play on, a lack of 'strange' people roaming around the place, which cuts out Pattaya/Jomtien entirely. I know where I will be going in the school holidays but it probably wouldn't suit you as there is nothing to do that costs money. Sorry to be rude.

sound advice. ill let my kids walk on the road as i'm sure the traffic situation is the same now as it was 50 years ago and sorry for looking for somewhere to take my kids for a few hours to get them out of the sun.

  9. Most big Hotel resorts would be good and Kid friendly, but once you head outside of the resort, buggy or no buggy the kids will find it hard to walk on the streets/roads, as most of Thailand is not really Perdestrian friendly...

Will the kids be ok with the heat as it is sometimes unbearable ???

As for Beach Resorts, hard to say, the ones that I have been to not far from Bangkok, are nothing special...

But maybe someone else can give u more info on that.

Enjoy your holidays wherever you end up.

I'm sure the heat will be a issue. But it was going from the heat to cold in the rooms last time with the air con on that was the problem. Seems to be a lot to do in bkk for kids but I'd like to be close to the beach as well
  10. Hi all.

What place would you recommend in Thailand that is best suited for kids. They will be aged 3 and a half and nearly 2 years of age. I've been there once since the daughter was born( when she was 11 months old) and i found it very frustrating. No restaraunts on Samui had high chairs other than the Irish pub in Chewang. Staff in places like MK where offering me bar stools when i asked for a high chair for a kid. I couldn't belive it. Also the path ways are not suitable push chairs and i basically had to carry my Daughter every where when we went. That along with her getting pnuemonia and spending a few nights in Hospital made it one of my least favouite holidays i've been on to say the least.

This time we have a son with us as well and both will be walking preety well so push chairs won't be a big a deal like last time(although still needed sometimes) but i'm just looking for a place with a nice beach and good amenities for kids that is not far from BKK. I've been thinking Jomtien but having been there before i was less than impressed with the beach. I know Patong has plenty to do in the day for kids and with the new water park been built in Kathu i've been thinking about there but i'm worried about the extra plane journeys with the kids after last time. We will already be doing some internal flights to Ubon along with the flights to and from Thailand

    All suggestions and ideas welcome

    Cheers

  11. Chemist has just been in touch. He has jungle formula lotion which he says can be used from 6 month. 15 euro (600) baht. Seems a bit pricey since its only 5 GBP on Amazon.

    Is this available in Thailand?

    Forgot to answer your question.

Yes you can find but need to be in tourist area for sure. The range here of western and ozy/nz products is very limited in general. You dont mention what size it is at €15??? But in general the good products are exspensive for sure.

I buy boots repel here. Im a brit so familiar with boots. I buy the grey colour one "Not" the yellow.

Grey contains alcohol yellow not. See my previous post.

Grey is good for prevention and after bite. But a small bottle is around 400 thb here and about £8 in uk.

But I would not use this product direct on a baby, it is strong and melts plastic even. But its affective.

My point is the price sounds about right from 400thb to around 800 thb.

Thanks for your answer. Ill probably just grab it here so but i will check out other recommendations i have received from TV members.

There will be more holidays so i'm sure it will all be used

  12. I wouldn't worry too much about the mosquitoes, unless you are planning a trip out into the sticks. My son is 14 months old now and has never used any type of mosquito repellent. In the evenings wear suitable clothing and a fan works well to keep the mossies away. At night make sure your little one sleeps in a mosquito net. I think it's difficult to use repellent on young children because they're always putting their hands in their mouth. A bite has got to be better than a mouth full of deet.

I don't agree with your comments. Dengue is running rampant in Chiang Mai CITY and many other provinces. Dengue lives where people live due to the number if still water places for them to breed. Out in the sticks there are lots of mozzies but it's not as dangerous as some cities are. Light coloured clothing is also a good idea. I have friends with dengue and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I'd be more worried about how you are going to transport your child than Dengue Fever. Taxis, buses or mini vans with no child seats would be my main concern.

I will of course be bringing a car seat that clicks into the pram ill be bringing. I wouldn't think about travelling without one. Sure a taxi would not even drop me to the airport in Dublin without one

  13. Thanks for all your replies guys. Really appreciated.

I will be in Mukdahan, Samui and BKK.

The house in Mukdahan is new but has lots of ways for the mosquito's to get in. My daughter is teething now and puts anything in her mouth so that is why i am worried about a strong deet.

I have asked advice here as i don't really trust the chemists in Thailand as you know most of them are not real pharmasits and they hand out antibiotics for just about anything. There are some goods ones for sure.

I've seen this johnsons baby lotion which say's its for mosquito's, looks like its from Thailand looking at the bottle.

Anyone seen this around. Hopefully i can get something before i leave Ireland.

    Again thanks in advance.

  14. Is there a mosquito spray for a child that young. We have our first trip with our daughter coming up and i haven't been successful in finding a spray yet although i am waiting to hear back from my local chemist.

Is there one available in Thailand.

Also any advice on how to deal with mosquito's if they bite her is appreciated.

    Thank you

  15. I have a 3 week trip to thailand coming up in about 4 weeks. The rate in thailand is about 41.90 per euro at the moment but with the inevitable military action coming up against syria i'm wondering if i should get myself some baht here as i'm sure the rate will fall with european participation in the strikes.

I can get it for 41.30 which isn't bad. If it drops to 38 again that is a difference of 3000 baht per 1000 euros.

I'd limited myself to changing 1000 euro's so it wouldn't be that much cash to carry around.

    Any suggestions?
