  1. my advice, after travelling to thailand several times when my son was small, bring the car seat & buy a cheap buggy from tesco when you arrive. The buggy with cost a fraction of that of a decent safe car seat so bring the car seat.

Another option instead of the buggy is a baby carrier, like a baby bjorn, I hardly used by buggy but the carrier was used all day every day but a buggy is handy for naps & when you are in shopping centres.

i have a baby bjorn which i was planning to bring to.i think ill also bring the pram as i have a transfer in abu dhabi. luckily etihad give 30 kgs in economy for both adults and infants so weight is not a issue till we fly in thailand

  2. Actually that booster looks like a good idea.

    A couple of caveats:-

The booster must be used with the regular seat belt.

Looks like it will only easily fit in the front, be aware of passenger air bags, I've not seen a car here where you can isolate the passenger air bag (like we can in Europe). This is a big issue with rear-facing baby seats, I'm not so sure about forward facing seats / boosters, but it bears looking at.

EDIT This page http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/choosing/airbags.htm suggests that it's OK but care is needed. To be honest I reckon the little one will be infinitely safer in the booster than he/she would be just rattling around inside the vehicle.

i seen that it only works in the front seat and then the wife said no to it. thanks for the link.

is there any other topics in TV with tips for travelling to thailand with a infant. I have done a search i am not coming up with many. saves me starting a new topic if you now any. for instance is it safe using mosquito spray on her, just general info

    cheers

  3. Thanks all for your comments. I was thinking that her neck would not fully developed yet and that has been my main concern. I have done the trip from through isaan before from the airport to her home town and it was a bit hectic with dogs all over the place and pot holes. The guy who does the driving is a nice guy and i have seen him refusing drink before as he had to drive, so i trust him to go even slower with the little one in it but i think a baby seat is the safest option..

  4. I will be flying to thailand with a 1 year old. I will then have a couple of car journeys, into bangkok and then about 1.5 hours from a airport in isaan to the village and of course back to the airport again when we are leaving. There will also be another few smaller car journeys when we go down south to and from the airport to hotels. I don't want my child just sitting on my lap while doing these journeys but carrying a car seat plus a pram along with the luggage will be a bit hard. I will be carrying a back pack and pushing the pram.

Has anyone had any experience with this issue and any ideas how to solve it. Obviously i will take the car seat if needs but if you's other options it would be great.

I found these on ebay ,hope its ok to post the link. They look ok and much better than a booster seat as she will have more straps .Thank you

  5. Yes, just turn up. Nok Air are great with regards to infants. Thai airways you cannot book online but have to arrive early and go to their office etc etc - a real pain.

thats not good as ill be flying back from ubon to bkk(suvanabhumi) most likely with thai as ill be catching a flight to samui, does anyone know if thai will check my luggage all the way to samui on bangkok air flights. ubon - bkk with thai.. bkk to samui with bangkok air

i know they have a codeshare agreement

  6. Spoke to them about this last week, they said to just turn up. You will need documentation even if its an internal flight, standard procedure.

thanks mate, good to hear.i presume then that the infant will fly for free on my lap, no 10% like others airlines
From the Nokair website (link above

    >Only one baby can travel on your lap (free of charge)

Let us know how you go IrishKen - this sort of info always helps others down the track. Happy travels.

    will do

  8. A child can be carried on as unchecked baggage provided that he or she weighs less than 7kg.

Not exactly conventional thinking - but can't find anything in the rules to say otherwise.

    Carry on. (pun completely intended)

seems strange that you just show up.it could be any ones child you have with you

  9. Ethihad airways and I think one other middle-eastern fly direct to Dublin

With Etihad you have a stop over in Abu Dhabi

u do have a stopover ... but i find Etihad a top notch airline and usually fly the bkk-abu dhabi-dub route ... i actually appreciate the chance to stretch my legs for a while after being sat in an airplane for more than 6 hours.

also stopovers with Etihad tend to be relatively short !!

agree with you there. etihad get some stick on the forums and haven't really got a high rating on airline reviews but i have always found them to be good. as you said the stopover is short and abu dhabi airport isn't to bad. also on the dub - abu dhabi route you can get lucky with lots of empty seats and gives you a chance to stretch out

  10. Working for Etihad I often get the Dublin flights from Abu Dhabi. We have two a day. We have about 15 different flights both morning and evening and connecting to these flights and the average amount of passengers connecting to Dublin is about 30 to 40 from Bangkok.

I don't see a non stop from any airline in the near future to Dublin.

Probably conclusive flightcrew, but if there were 40 every day on Etihad, Emirates, BA, Air France, Lufthansa, KLM, Quantas, Thai Airways, Swiss Air, China Airlines, etc...... If priced right do you not think they could fill 1 flight per day, also young Irish going to Australia have to take minimum 3 flights unless they go through the UAE, there's huge numbers heading to Australia and stopping in Thailand and surrounding countries for a month or so, I honestly think it would be commercially viable. By the way any chance of an upgrade next time I use Etihad (joking)

you hit the nail on the head there saying if the price is right and for some reason i doubt it will be. with etihad at the moment, flights to bkk from dub are fairly expensive compared to flight to elsewhere in asia. they are taking advantage of the fact that many young irish are heading to aus and stopping off in thailand. etihads special offer to thailand now is 768 euro while you can get it with turkish airlines for about 630

  11. You can ignore the Dashboard Update in #15. Use this version instead.

You may come up against a problem or two, such as having to manually delete the Vodafone and perhaps old Huawei Drivers from the PC on which you use to do the Flashing, in order for the 'new' modem to be recognised by that PC.

    Should be fine for others.

thanks mate and sorry for the slow reply. i appreciate all the help. i will bookmark this page and hopefully i can sort it.

    thank you

  12. Thanks guys for the information.ill probably just buy a dongle and sim in thailand

It's not a big problem to unlock the modem and to flash it with the generic connection software and also not a problem to continue using it with Vodafone in the UK.

The only difference is that you will need to enter the APN details manually the first time.

Better than wasting money on a new modem, if you have a little time on your hands.

What the model number of the modem?

hi.thanks for your info but i wouldn't have a clue about unlocking it. the model number is k3765 and its vodafone ireland but i am sure they are pretty much the same as UK. i never use it in ireland as i have wifi where i want so if i can only use it in thailand and saves me from buying a new one it would be great as ill only be there for about 10 days.ill be in isaan close to the laos border if thats any help with what provider to use

    cheers

There are two types of K3765; the K3765-H(uawei) or the K3765-Z(TE). Which is it?

    made by Huawei

  13. What i do is just use bluetooth connected to my phone . I use DTAC - about 199 baht for 20 hours . Seems to work everywhere DTAC can get a signal . Sometimes i can get faster speeds on DTAC than on WI Fi here in BKK .

Hi. I never taught of that. I have just had a look on youtube how to do it. I have a Blackberry 9900 so its probably a bit different to your own phone. You have to connect through a usb but ill try it when i get home from work. Do you know if you can get a good connection with DTAC in Isann

DTAC is good around Siskaret but i haven't tried it further North except Nong Khai about 4 years ago and it was poor up there. AIS gets better reception as its previous owner of AIS was in a position to extend coverage over most of Thailand before he sold the company to Singtel. I prefer DTAC myself and you can go into a DTAC store and they will set it all up for you if you bring in your computer and phone. I just used a Nokia 6303 but anyphone with bluetooth will work. You don't need to use a USB connection.

yeah but doesn't your computer also need bluetooth to connect to your phone. i am not sure mine has. i have also been watching some youtube videos on how to unlock the dongle but as cirencester said i would need to get the VPN for DTAC or whatever company i would be using

  16. I have a Vodafone broadband dongle and i am wondering if i brought it to Thailand and just bought a sim card for it would i get internet connection or does the sim have to match the stick itself.I will be in isaan for about 10 days and the wife's sister has no internet in her house. I'd just like to know if anyone has done this before with there own mobile internet devices.

    Thank you

  17. If the dam_n placed closed when it suppose to nobody would have died, no one. That's why it's important to say this.

Sure, and if the tourists did not come to Thailand and that bar, they would not not have died. Easy answer, all stay at home! What a interesting way of looking at it you have.

he is right.if it closed when it was supposed to no one would have died.this people died as a result of greed and people paying bribes to corrupt police .
