  1. Six years ago, I moved to Bangkok.  Have had a car for 5 years.

Traffic has steadily increase YoY. And the last 3 years has been insanity.  Tonight it took me 2.5 hours to drive 15km.

Nowadays, BTS and MRT platforms are at standing capacity during peak hours.  Siam and Asoke seem the worst.  Last month at Asoke mrt, it took me 45 mins to get a token and then get onto a train.  They are extending bts green, red and purple lines, but the choke points will still be at Siam and Asoke.

Some news headlines from last year:

5km in 4 hours.  (I was also in this mess)

    https://www.khaosod.co.th/special-stories/news_31387

Ordered a pizza delivered to her car

    https://www.khaosod.co.th/social-trend/news_33414

So, my question is, what happens when a city's infrastructure can no longer support the peak hour traffic?

  2. Hi All,

I'm looking for a cheap barbell (no weights) to bring to use in the condo's fitness room.  The fitness room already has weights and I am looking for a bar that I just hide away in my condo and bring in on the days for cleans and deadlifts.  In fact, I am wondering if a DIY solution is possible using a steel bar.  Probably will not use over 70kg of added weight on the bar.  Has anyone with experience making a diy bar?  Or any ideas for a cheap solution?

  3. 24 years ago, I came to Thailand for a visit and was 18yrs old at the time.

Then: No "obese" Thai people as I recall

Now: See several "obese" ppl on a daily basis (agree with JaiLai)

Then: Not many western brands / franchises

Now: Many Starbucks, Burger franchises, Donut franchises

Then: Cold drinks on the go came in a plastic bag, rubber band and straw

    Now: plastic or paper cup

Then: Thai art and culture was very "Thai" very traditional. Music was Carabao and Joey boy

Now: Thai art is very much fusion and very quick with keeping up with the West. First modern wave of music Da endorphine, Bodyslam, Potato, Thaitanium. Now some Gen-Y Thai bands even sing in English. see "Part Time Musicians", Hugo, Montonn Jira on youtube.

Then: Thai fashion was Levis and Gap

Now: There are many Thai born brands. Thai clothing Naraya, Dapper and Waft x Weft

5 baht phones but now-a-days Thailand is number in Facebook and Instagram usage.

My opinion... back then, Thais were outward looking. Today, Thai people are more and more in-ward looking (still take influence from elsewhere, but not different from anywhere else). Maybe as evidence, Thailand as a whole, English proficiency is dropping year to year.

I used to live in Los Angeles. I can say that Bangkok is folds more modern than Los Angeles. Granted LA is a suburb, not a metro. More brand shops, Mega malls, public transport, Huge electric billboards. Seems like Big brands will group Bangkok along with NYC, London, Shanghai, HK, Dubai, Singapore with their expansions.

  4. The problem with Ford is the QC and the after sales service. There is an official Thai Ford FB page and it is loaded with ppl posting their issues. Long waits, poor service, paint chipping off the bumper from a spray wash, rust in the injector heads, trans axle coming off. I think there was Fiesta that caught fire after a small crash.

Don't ever go off a video "review" Most of them are paid advertorials

3 years ago I cancelled my wildtrack order and got the mazda bt50. ugly SOB but works great and no issues. Had the battery die a few months ago and called mazda, they sent 2 guys on a motorbike with a new battery. I paid for it but nice that they can come to me and replace it.

Mazda and Ford come from the same factory but I just don't understand the QC issues. Different lines i guess but a world of difference. Maybe Ford is better now?? Gotta do the research carefully bcuz that is a purchase that can bring happiness or complete misery.

Just to add, I really do like FOrd's styling. Some of the best looking design.

  5. Greetings,

The office we rented is a residential townhome with traditional wood doors. We have several employees that sit in front or near a common restroom. The door to the restroom has slits and basically every little sounds comes through the door. I would like to buy a new door and possibly sound proof it so that people can attend to their business in peace.

Any suggestions on what kind of door and added sound proofing that I can purchase from HomePro?

    THank you.

  6. Greetings,

For those looking for products, could everyone chime in on what categories of products you are looking to purchase and also the typical search terms/phrases you use to search.

Also, whenever you do find a supplier, does the language barrier pose the biggest problems?

FYI, currently I have a website that has over 1200 local Thai sellers subscribed in home decor and fashion. They are not ready for export as that is not our focus, but I am considering extending our business to service overseas purchasers like everyone here.

Would you be interested in this service and if so, please tell me your pain points. ie. discovery, communications, logistics.

Also have you tried Thaicraft.org? Or does it not fit your product needs?

    Thank you,

    Echo

  7. Have you looked at the InvadeIt.co.th Website or else email the owner Thomas as he is very knowledgeable and he could help you source the item you require.

Yes I searched invadeit, priceza and olx and found a triple stand for 4000 baht which is overkill for my purpose. I just need to be able to rotate 1 monitor in the vertical position. a two or three-monitor stand would suffice as well, but I am just looking for the cheapest option. Perhaps a member has seen these at pantip or fortune or the it malls.

  8. Ditto....BIG problems on Nexus 4. Gmail, Camera, Photo app hangs more times than not. Very slow opening some apps. Slow making phone calls. Seems to get a little better over time or i just got used to it.

I am having a miserable time receiving phone calls on my Google Nexus 4 (latest model) that got the lollipop OTA yesterday,

I continue to hit the ANSWER button and nothing happens. Unfortunately it appears to be a complicated ordeal deal to turn it back to Kit Kat so I am stuck with having to ignore phone calls when received and then have to call them back, then explaining to the caller that I got lollipooped

Not a happy camper am I

  9. Has anyone bought one of these here. I'm looking for a simple 1 monitor option that rotates (for web design)

Vesa mount, not the ones that clamp down. Looking for cheap that does the job.

    What prices have you seen?

  10. 5992 baht (US200) is pretty expensive for a battery. I have had to buy a new battery on a couple of times for my MBP and both times purchased them through ebay.au Look for a seller that ships from Hong Kong so it gets here quickly. I only paid USD60 each time.

Great thanks. Ok that sounds like a better option, 6000 baht is steep. I think I'll go that route. I'll just need to find and buy a pentalobe screwdriver.

Were the batteries you received new original Apple batts? At that price, it is cheaper than direct from Apple.

  11. Has anyone got the price for a macbook Air battery replacement plus service? AFAIK the battery is soldered into the board so it is not as easy as to buy a new battery.

My 2010 model Air has 650 charge cycles over 3 years and is now showing a capacity of only 76%. This thing is tough as nails but the batt is understandably showing wear.

    Thanks

  12. I have TuneIn Apps on my iPhone always listen to 181fm with AIS 799 package. Its still good even my 3G is already on FUP, but dont play around with other apps which also use internet connection. lol

Check out http://tunein.com/get-tunein/ they got app for many OS.

Also using tuneIn app. It's great. Radio stations from around the world. Seldom connection issues over 3G here in Bangkok.

These are the same radio stations you find in iTunes under the radio tab but with the app, you can do a search.

    my favorite stations are:

    Abacus Mozart

    Calm radio Mozart

    TechnoBase.fm for contrast haha

  13. Yes I agree, you can find a nice studio in BKK for 5-7000 baht.

Learn to order Thai food and explore the restaurant stalls. Moo, gai, neua...kao pad, pad grapow kai daow, moo pad gratieum, pad see ew, tom yum lek, yen thafo and of course...pad thai. :)

I have my regular spots near my place, excellent food and a dish is 30-35 baht.

  14. I can think of some habits that are very easily noticed, table manners are a prime example.

I was raised to not speak with your mouth full of food and not make any strange noises while eating, slurping and chewing with open mouth is not frowned upon over here i notice.

You need to observe more closely. The person making slurping, lip-smacking noises and chewing with their mouth open is Chinese. Supposedly to show they're enjoying it. Same here, this disgusts me so much. Thais don't do this nor do they like this, however while many Thais are annoyed by it, they won't say something to the person. Actually Thai culture has quite a list of table manners.

  15. I don't know how you consider any of that Thai (only) or odd behavior based on one person's behavior.

And if she replies to any of your queries with "because that is what they do in Thailand", take it with a grain of salt, because that is probably what they do in Thailand to quickly brush off criticism. whistling.gif
