  1. Another question:   When will pattaya ever get finished with the on-going building work.   My belief is in around 5 years there will be no boundry between Jomtian & Pattaya as new buildings emerging will make the one seriouly big town.

As for Bangkok the only part I ever see now adays is the arrivals area and the domestic departures, enough for me.

  2. Huskter, when I opened the bank account they simply gave me a piece of paper with the bank's address and sort code & my account number.   I faxed this to my bank in the UK and they simply T/T the money, about 3 million baht which took 8 days to be in my account ( goes round the Bangkok stock exchange for a few days earning them some extra Baht) and I had no problems at all.

As for the statement regarding having to disclose what the money recieved is for, my bank Krung Thai only request that information on amounts of over 2 million baht being transfered at any one time.

  3. Tell your husband to go to "Rosie O' Gradys" in Soi 7, it is a very well established 1st class resturant and hotel, fequented by many farang couples.

Ask for Bill the joint owner (Brumie) and he will give a personal reccommendation to his lawyer in Pattaya who deals with most of the "successfull" farang business's in town and you will both start on a good footing without the expense of the middle men, alternative if you want to buy an established business "Sunbelt" is a sure certainty in that dept.

    Good Luck

  4. "Stinkster" ...opps sorry it's Pinkster.

When you learn to spell my name correct I may offer condolence to "dreamers" certainly not apoligies.

This guy is on an ego trip and has found an audience and you appear to be in the front row.

Simon43 earns 6 million baht a month, come on which banana boat did you arrive on, believing stuff like that!

  5. Ok guys let's re-cap the situation.

A regular kind of guy goes and has a few certain things on his mind, meets a sweet cute young looking girl chaperoned by her "sister" (anyone heard that one before).  Promise's not to have sex with this sweet innocent girl but deceides too anyway.

In the morning all threat's and allegations arise and he hands over 5000 baht.

Conclusion:   He has a nite of passion with what he think's is an inexperienced virgin, and sister claim's 4500 baht out of the 5000 baht.

Yes again THE GIRL IS THE VICTIM and the other two parties involved are just selfish.

Awake and in the real world

  6. For me The Krung Thai Bank is exellent, I've had a ATM card with a maximum daily withdrawal of 150,000 baht, cost of the card 250 baht for the year.

Transfers from any country simple too, infact I've never been in the branch since I opened it, don't really need to cos' I can get statements and balances from the ATM.

And it only took 5 mins to open the account with the usual passport and a handful of 1000 baht notes.

    Hope it works for you.

  7. Maybe the girl was the victim here.

Surely you must have known if this girl was a virgin, sex is a LITTLE bit different with a girl for the first time and there are some certainly tell tales signs!

So you are very naive or you were lucky to get away with 5000 baht.

  8. George, speaking to a friend who has just landed in LOS said the Hull Consulate is no longer a soft touch as they have got wise to the influx of people travelling from all parts of the UK to obtain visa's there.

Maybe word has gotten round and they have been told to tighten the system,as my friend was only given a single entry after making a personal appointment there and took what appeared to have all the relevant documents with him.

  9. From my experience with Thai banks, they will lend on property to farangs with a limit upto 50% of the valuation.

As you are working here (legally we assume) you will have a regular income into your bank account so the bank know your personal cash flow, this is essential for them to even consider it.

As for the lease, with a good english speaking lawyer you will have no problems having it drawn up for 30 years, BUT make sure the WORDING is "Your RIght TO Renew" the lease NOT "Option to extend" as this is more in favour of your rights.

The above info although very short is based on my personal experience and hope it helps.

  10. Drifter ever heard of "out of the frying pan into the fire"?

Should you trust one of these agency to do your passport run on your South African passport and the said Company goes bust or get's interevened by immigration, and all passports they are holding get confiscated, you'll remember the above quote.

Take the advice of the last post and swallow the "pill".

  11. Quite simply:

If you are on a Tourist Visa the answer is No.

You will need a "B" or "O" Visa minimum.   Most people have their vehicles registered to their own Limited Business, which is fairly straight forward, alternatively if you have Residencey.

By law you should have an International Licence issued by the AA or RAC in the Uk.

There is a proceedure to get a Thai Licence but unless you can fullfill one of the above, just rent.

  12. Most farang have a kitchen built outside the home because of the aroma of Thai food, quite powerfull day in day out, personally I eat Thai food without a problem so it does not bother me but may be a consideration for you.

Alternative is a good outside barbie, always cheap and easy to make.

Personally I think 2 million baht is OTT, why not spend half that amount and gradually extend the house as and when you like later on, that way it is precieved  that you are not being too flash intially and also you can employ local labour to do the work which will be very much appreciated.

Remember you will be living amonst the locals so let them help you help them.

    Good Luck

  13. Book a flight through   www.airlinenetwork.co.uk    many of my friends do a one way ticket with KLM via amsterdam for a cost of about £288 and never once has anyone got stopped and questioned.

Mainly because the Dutch are much more liberal in many ways to the British (no offence to Brits I am one) so even if you do encounter a problem you've always got a couple of nights in Amsterdam to enjoy!!

  14. Bar girls are one of the nation's biggest revenues for the Kingdom of Thailand behind the Culture,Budda and the beaches.

So now and again the authorities do the odd clamp down on a certain bar but close that revenue for good, not as long as Thailand is known as LOS.
