  1. Agree with the ID card system it's as fool proof as you can.

When you leave Jomitian by baht bus (cost 50 baht each way) just ask for Soi 10 and you will be amonst hundreds of hotels, and check each one out, with your budget you will be able to afford them all.

A good map in detail is at www.pattayaexpats.com.

    Good Luck

  2. George a quick question.

Having checked the link you posted "Marrigae in Thailand" it seems that alot of documentation is required by the Embassy ie Medical cards, proof of income, residency and referee's in Home country, transalation of everything ect.

Does anyone know how much all of this is required or do you need to proof you are eligible to marry legally.

I am from Uk and have been legally divorced and want to have the marriage registered at the local Amphur, people with experience on this please post.

  3. I am sure there is a thread on this subject, but I just can't find it so here goes:

Anyone moved lock, stock and barrell from the UK and can recommend a port to ship personal effects to and which are the best companies ideally based in Hull area?

    Thanks again

  4. Bay Breeze on Soi 10, for 500 baht a night you get air-con cable tv, fidge, en-suite with a bath as well as shower, there's a pool and they even throw buffet breakfast in too.

The security is first class and free safe deposit boxes, and the rooms are enormous.  Low season like now they drop to 450 baht a night, lastly they have internet in the reception area which is the quickest I've tried in Pattaya.

  5. Apply for a "B"visa first and yes a computor would help, wink wink say no more.

You do hold ownership when you buy a condo but rent it before you buy as many owners will accept this offer.

There is never such a thing as enough money no matter where you live, but as for the 2 million investment use that amount to buy a business and maintain the business over the low seasons which last for about 4 months May to September.

As for which business to chose that's down to what appeals to you.

    Good Luck

  6. My point Palace1 was:

The Bar Girls wether they work in Bangkok,Phuket or Pattaya become accustomed to the Farang attitude so tend to adopt a simliar attutude towards them in return,  hey, I to not blame them, who would.

Maybe when the farang attitude changes towards them, then maybe the girls who work (most hate it) in the bars will change.

Without them Thailand would still be beautiful but not as prosperious, and no one can denie that.

  7. Take a farang:

On his first trip to Thailand with his pockets busting with Euro's Dollars, Pounds he encounters a beautiful Thai girl who works in a Bar.

She comes from Issan, Bangkok or the South and he cannot believe how such a beautiful girl is so compassionate towards him.

During the 2 weeks of talking dibberish (something to do with Singa beer in excess) he promises to keep in touch at any cost.

Back home he show's all his mates the beach photo's of his prize catch. everyone is amazed!

On his second trip back to LOS he can't remember her name never mind what soi she worked in, oh mai pen lai.

So he goes out and repeats the entire process over again, another bar another beautiful girl half his age, a 2 week dream  all over again, showing no concern and no respect for his new found love, not forgetting back home he would have problems dating the 65 year traffic warden!

So now the farang after a total of 4 weeks holiday in 2 years becomes an expert in the culture and needs of Thai ladies.

Can you understand why the "Bar Girls" treat the typical fanang with the same content as the farang treat them.

As my daughter say's "Girl Power"

  8. Question really is:

How many guys quote they have met their lady in a resturant or a shop, maybe on a train but in the past maybe 1 month or 1 year ago they worked in a bar and these guys never find out because they refuse to "dig deeper"and are happy with what they don't know about their dream girl.

I take my hat off to the Bar Girls they are at most alot more switched on than the "crying in my milk farangs" I have met.

  9. And then we all go back to Palace1 's question:

Every one in this forum express's their own opinion based on experience they have had, sadly there are some people who dream of that experience and only cloud the reality of day to day living in LOS.

If Palace1 was honest and did not express his views regarding the vast provinces of Thailand and the conclusions based on Internet site Information, he may have gain a few more friends rather than being ridiculed by every one.

    Any bets he is 16?

  10. An International Drivers Licence is required in Thailand.

Most people drive with their Country of origin Licence and never have a problem UNTILL they have a problem!

In the event of a accident involving a Thai national you are unlikely to go to Prison (unless it's drink related) but automatically the Thai Police will hold your Passport untill the trail or out of court compensation has been settled (not forgetting a contribution to the Police funds)which is generally excessive to say the least.

  11. Only yesterday Palace1 was dreaming of meeting a Thai girl.

Today he recommends everyone to find a Japanese girl (much more loving he says) my conclusion is:

Palace1 is a dreamer and has many wet dreams to boot!

Tomorrow he will tell of his exploits with a Russian girl....watch this space!!

  12. Wolf.....an amazing story, you were very lucky.

Maybe you have the answer to my original question?  Do you ever clean your Budda?

Cos if it were not for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!

  13. Jomitian a few years ago saw a boom in Hotels and Apartment/Condo's being built, some say it was because they expected the Chinese would emigrate there in Thousands when Hong Kong was handed back to China, but this just did not happen so hence the many, many empty buildings down beach road.

I believe it will come back when Pattaya has reached it's bursting point ( maybe sooner than later) so yes Jomtian is a good investment, as for Veiw Talay I think there are better condo's near to the beach area.

A good tip would be find the one you want to buy and rent it for 6 MONTHS to see what the local atmosphere is like, and if you like it then get your 6 months rental knocked off the asking price.

    Good Luck

  14. I think you have answered most of your questions yourself.

When in the Uk apply to Hull Consulate for a "B" visa which you will need a letter from an employer offering employment ( a good quality Computer can sort this out) if the refuse you a "B" visa (unlikely) then they will give you an "O" visa.

With both visa's you are allowed to stay in Thailand for 90 days then you must do a border run for re-entry hence another 90 days ect.

You can buy a condo in your name as a farang providing that at least 51% of the residents are Thai (but that law is never much upheld).

To buy land and house you need a Registered Thai Limited Company and the company effectly owns the property just the same as in the UK. Or you could buy land with a Board of Investement title but that amount of money you need to invest in Thailand correct me if I am wrong is around 40 million baht, out of most peoples reach!

Consider leasing a property on a 30 year lease plus option of another 30 years that means you hold title of lease so the property can not be sold without your permission giving you right of occupancy and if Thai laws change and eventually you can own property as a fanang with a Limited Company involved you can transfer it to you.

    Hope things work out.

  15. Enchanted the answer is No:

Agree once again with D80, the answer from a rather senior immigration bod was that because Thailand is surrounded by Borders with very "Irrational" goverment controls that it is important to monitor immigrants on a strict basis, when I mentioned the revenue claimed by the Thai Goverment implenting these measures, he went into the "no understand question mode"......aahh well this is Thailand.

  16. Yes but!

There are many advantages for building a house close to the "family" and I have one.

We have a business in Pattaya (Hate the place) but for making money you can't really beat in terms of how many farang come for their 2 week vacation.

Anyway as we both work 24-7 almost, and have living accomadation in the building where our business is, we will build a home in the village so the family can keep a close eye on the property whilst we are working 2000 miles away.

A couple of farang have the same situation as me and they have no problems and have never encountered "break-ins" or damage whilst the family keep a close eye on the property.

So having the best of both worlds, ie a property which costs a faction of the price as in a tourist area and 24 hour un-paid security, not forgetting a home to escape in the "low season".

    Any comments?

  17. On my last vist to my G/F home I was given a very old Budda necklace by her mother, and when we were in Bangkok buying a baht gold chain the lady in the gold shop said it was very unlucky to clean the budda.

My G/F said she had never heard of that but strongly recommended me not to have it cleaned on the basis of what we were told.   As I am still in 2 minds wether to have it cleaned I must convince my G/F of the facts before I go ahead.

    Any thoughts?

  18. Please could someone advise me if it is possible to have the marraige resistered outside Bangkok, say Pattaya as we plan to stay in Jomitian for a month, that would be more conveinent rather than the expense of travelling to Bangkok for a few days.

And any experiences on that location would help.

  19. Benny could you expain what this "good person" paperwork is all about and the content of what it say's?

I have no police record or skeletons in the cuboard but have had a couple of credit card problems in the past(who hasn't) will this affect me?

    Regards
