  1. Some very concise and relevant points raised by D80.

I agree if you were invited to her family home as B/F then yes it is a big deal for not just her, her family but I imagine the whole village turned out at some stage to look at the farang in her life.

Bear in mind most families don't know what work their off daughters do once they leave home, as they are told they work in hotels or shops and get plenty tips from farangs so it is even a big deal for the Bar girl on bringing home a new B/F.

I really suspect you innocently went along with the flow not understanding the true nature of her good intentions and now you must do something without doing damage further.

From my point of veiw I think you have to be hard on the issue and change your email address so the message will eventually click to the girl that there is no future in trying to contact you, hard but sometimes WISDOM COMES FROM ERROR'S.

    Good Luck

  2. If you want to make a real go at Working & Living for good in Thailand $48,000 is no were near enough, a good piece of advice I was given is $96,000 (twice as much) to make it work.

First buy a house with 33% of your capital that way you have something to sell if desperation sets in or you can raise capital against the house by rental ect.

Second only put 33% in your 1st Business venture because at least 80% of new business's do not make their 3rd year.

Thirdly if your business does work there are very poor returns in the low season you you will need to draw on your remaining 33% to keep the business afloat through available cash flow.

And don't forget you signed a declaration upon getting your "B" visa that you have enough funds for repatranation to your home country if funds dry up that's about $1100.

Off the record Sunbelt maybe how you phrased your posting led me to believe in what I said,so an apologie if accepted.

  3. Thanks for your advice:

How long did the whole thing take to organise? and about this good person thing do you need to this in order to register the marriage at the local amphur and could you get it in your home country (I am English) Embassy?

    Thanks again.

    Sev

  4. Sooner or later I will make a "decent" woman out of my long term G/F, as we have been engaged for 2 years the subject of marriage is becoming an everyday subject.

We will be married in her village in Issan and wonder anyone have first hand experience on what to expect in costs, ie monks, ceremony and catering for the family (and village).

As I have a company registered in Pattaya I will be building a house in the village on land we have bought, everything in Company name, the house about 1 million baht.

So bearing that in mind any idea's on the above?

  5. Tax's are based on profit after expenses so it will not affect the situation for a Thai national.

Do I read correct you are going into Partnership with a Thai owned business?   Make sure you get a Farang lawyer do the neccessary formation if you are, to protect your interests because everything you sign will be in Thai Language, hence leaving you a little bit exposed!

If you have 2 million go it alone and be your own boss.

    Good Luck

  6. You paid a very heavy price indeed, don't waste any more money on legal bills, except the offer to go back and vist and whilst you are there hire a pickup truck and stash as much as you can in the back of it, ie motorbike, fridge, cooker, bedding, clothes, and anything eles you can lift and head down to BKK and sell the lot.

Might give a few moments of satisfaction.

  7. Seville,  To obtain a work permit you need to either buy a Ltd Company with an investment of 2 million baht and submit accounts every year just like in your home country OR you need a sponser ( Bar Owner ) who will guarantee you employment and to obtain this work permit for you he needs proof of an investment of 2 million baht into his Company, the is the legal way to obtain one.

There are other ways but to break the law in a foriegn country like Thailand, well that's upto you.

  8. And sooner or later they end up in the "Monkey House" because an "old friend" reported them to immigration for working without the work permit.

Sunbelt encouraging people to work without the correct visa in place.......sponser or not ..you are out of order!

If you want to play the Thai Authorities just keep looking over your shoulder every 2 minutes for the rest of your stay in Thailand, because they will come down hard when they get you.

  9. So you reccommend starting with an  "O" visa and start looking to set up a business, once you have a business in mind apply for a "B" visa?

Why not apply for a "B" visa before he comes out it certainly saves alot of messing around with the immigration office and does every one agree:

IT IS EASIER TO GET A "B" VISA IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY CONSULATE THAN IT IS IN ASIA.

I think it is but I have no vested interests in the matter.

  10. Approx 3,400 CCJ's are registered every day through the County Court and a further 200 are issued through the High Court. Alot of data on alot of people.

But back to the guy's original question will he be persued abroad?  Answer No, unless there was a case of deception and the police were notified.

A debt other wise is a Civil matter and not a criminal offence ( God knows how many prisions we would need if it was a criminal offence) so even if they persued him what chance of getting any money out of him would they have!

No, the only option they would take is to issued a Bankruptsy Order on him but even then it would only remain on file because they have to personally give the order in person, not a bad job for someone I guess travelling round the world with bit's of paper searching the bars of patong and pattaya!!!

Still you have some good points Max

    Sev

  11. Sorry Max Power, but you are very wrong.

No Data base is held on individuals regarding CCJ's (County Court Judgements) travelling from one Country to another, that is protected by the Data Protection Act 1974, so please check your facts before posting non relevant quotes.

The credit files are not open to any Embassy on an individual unless the Foriegn office has a justisfiable case to over rule that power because of intelligence obtained by major deception.......A mere CCJ does not and will not make the authorities take an expensive and detail investigation into a simple civil matter!

So put down your Mr Sherlock Holmes Book

  12. Anyone had an experience taking a Motor bike by train from Issan through Bangkok and maybe into Pattaya?

We will be leaving Urbon and taking our new bike to Pattaya/Jomtian and wonder has anyone had experiance with the rail network involving a bike?

  13. From a guy's point of veiw:  Medicine and surgery has a international code, it's called patient care, and after 24 years working in a UK A&E ward I have some experience on this subject.

Thai Doctors and Natal Clinic personell are usually trained in Hospitals abroad on an exchange basis, depends on the part of country you are having your child, and 99% of exchange staff from Asia are so dedicated to the studies in comparision to home student Doctors & Nurses it at times is embarrassing!

My advice would be to take out a Bupa health cover which is reconised throughout all Hospitals in Thailand so you are given access to the best care.

Children are so precious in any country because of their vuneralbilty and just take a look around in Thailand the fuss a newly born baby creates in public just to see how precious the Thai's veiw this.

    Well I'm just a guy......

  14. Trip, believe me "O" visa is for supporting a wife and family or visting friends on a long stay vacation, plus to renew it you need proof of income or a certain amount in the bank to justify your visa.

"B" visa is for Business and to apply for a work permit you need this stamp in your passport,   ok you can transfer it once you are here but you are in th hands of the "Lawyer" to sort it out, which means he can name his price as it is not that simple, and immigration know this is a tried and tested loophole.

Get a "B" if you can before you arrive even if it is a single entry at least it gives you 3 months to get your work permit in place and easier to extend to a year visa.

Good Luck and keep what is yours, yours.

  15. The best in depth course I have ever come across is the Linquaphone course, language and script with native Thai speakers.

It's a little expensive but if you are serious you will be amazed on the results after a short time.

And like a Rolex watch there is always a second hand market you can sell back into when you have finished it!

    Good Luck Sev

  16. Are you were entering Thailand on a tourist visa?

If you are only on holiday an International Bike Licence is required or a wad of 100 baht notes in the back pocket for the boys in brown.   Never leave your passport with the Bike Shop take a couple of copies before you leave home.

To buy a bike in Thailand you need to enter on  a "B" visa so as to register the bike in your name, you can not register a bike in your name on a tourist visa, and registering such a desirable bike in a Thai "friends" name will be loco!!

Last but not least check out the small print on insurance if you can find a decent policy.

  17. Depends on your funds:  To register a business in your wife's name is straight forward, just open shop!

All you need for a non-immigrant "B" visa (essential for a work permit) is a letter from her saying you have employment waiting for you in Thailand, the local Thai consulate in your home country will give you a "B" visa on the strength of that.

    That's the easy part!

Remember you are a farang and immigration will want to see evidence that your wife has 2 million baht ( a requirement for one farang work permit) could be tricky if they ask for accounts ect.

If you have the funds to set up a Limited Company ie: 2 million baht, why not put the buisness in your name as you will have more chance of a work permit.

You can get your "B" visa on the strength of a computerised letter of offer of employment no probs, then apply for a work permit through a lawyer, saves time and errors!

    Good Luck

  18. Also bear in mind that your brother will want to communicate with her once a day, my G/F spends anything upto 3000 baht a month on text and sending mail.

The issue really is what long term plans does he have?  If he intends to relocate and live and work in Thailand then it is money well spent because he will have the help and support of a girl he loves, if on the other hand if he only intends to go out on vacation a couple of times a year my advice is STOP NOW.

    Sev

  19. Only Thai girls who are not in a serious or long standing relationship would sell their gold gifts, ie if the girl thought she would not see you again ect.

A one baht necklace is a simple not too expensive gift and a simble of well being within the thai's, ok you could splash out on a 3 baht necklace but depends on how long you have known your lady!

  20. Thai law states that any land secured with a loan is claimable by the finance company should the loan default.

As the finance company hold the land deeds and a signed agreement by your father in law they should have no problem transferring it to their name, but as the value is less than the outstanding debt they may wish to persue through the courts for the balance which believe me and you would take about 10 years and a lawyers fee of twice the amount outstanding , so I would not worry too much about the claim.

Intimadation could be a problem but from my experience people in villages stick together when there is a problem within the village so I guess you won't have a problem there.

Lastly inform your local land registry office of the situation and agree to forefit the land as a final end to the matter.

    Good luck
