hi there
I'm not old enough for a retirement visa but have a regular income from abroad, and a condo in LOS, is it correct that my only option is one of those psuedo legal non immB visa's? This is what i have been getting for the past two years (from Brisbane), but i wonder if the consulate will at some point stop approving them. Has anyone else had this problem?
I was hoping i could get one of those O visa's for people with property, but it seems u have to be over 50 to get one, which is crazy because then you would be eligable for a retirement visa anyway.
Its unfortunate that they make it so hard for people like me who spend a considerable amount of money in the country every month but cannot get a visa that allows them to stay long term legally.
Any suggestions on the best way to stay.
cheers

of course seeing more monks at pantip plaza than yr local wat is nothing new, but the other day i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw 2 monks buy some food coupons and then go around looking for food. Being alone they would have had no-one to formally offer the food, unless the seller obliged. I'm not writing this as another rant about the decline of Buddhism is Thailand, but just wanna point out that it's not inconceivable that one day we may see monks out buying food like us all.
It was funny because just the day before i read one of ajahn Chah's stories about how he was visiting a wat in Saraburi and wouldn't eat the food because it was not offered correctly (they would line the food up and a layperson would touch one end and a monk the other end). He and his monks ate nothing but sticky rice for the few days they had to stay there. Quite a contrast.

has anyone seen the porsche on the RUF/Royal Motors stand, I'm sure it said CCT on the engine. I might of misread it though, and it was CGT (carrera GT), but it didn't look like a CGT. Whatever it was it sure was beast.

You know, I brought mine from the US, but I have never tried to use it. It is still sitting in the pocket of my suitcase that I brought it in almost 2 years ago. I have never seen them sold here. I have never seen anyone using one either. There is really only a couple of places in Bangkok that have radar guns and laser powered speed cameras. So I never used it because I became familiar with where the speed traps are. Maybe I will hook it up the next time I am driving past a known trap and see if it works. I don't know if they use the same radar and laser bands that the detector is looking at.
I will keep you posted if I do.
I v got a Whistler. Must admit since the fines are only 200 baht, I have never bothered to use it. Besides its to slow on lasers, and HWP uses lasers more than radars
havent been fined since I became a Highway Police Volunteer, have police sticker in my windshield/rerwindow and police id card.
So Whistler is for sale if anyone wants it.
what is a highway police volunteer? Can u give us some details please.

Hi there
Currently reading a book about parasites, don't laugh, but its got me paranoid. Is there a test to make sure I have none, or should I just take some kind of parasite purgative just in case. Are they common in BKK?

i suggest finding a sturdy brick wall and start beating yr head against it....far less painful than importing a car to this country.
If you can operate the search function on this forum you should be able to find lots of info, there was a guy, i think his ID was 'tuktukmike' or some such thing, read his story and then come back and tell us u wanna import a car.
As much as i love LOS, it is corrupt, and customs officers are the worst.

hi there
I'm very happy with healthcare in BKK, apart from the exhorbitant prices charged for medications at hospitals. Last week i saw a specialist and had X-rays, the price being a very reasonable 1600B, he prescribed anti inflamatries and muscle relaxants which were an outrageous 1500B, as mush as the consultation itself. Needless to say i declined them, and got some from a local pharmacy, 200B!! Sometimes i wonder if the doctor get a % of the meds he prescribes.
Ordinarily i'm reluctant to make an issue of such things, but after walking out of bummers once haven paid 900B for a bottle of vitamins, i vowed i'd be more cautious next time.
My question is, assuming the meds are not prohibited (a prescription needed) can a patient request a copy of the medications? Has anyone done this? My guess is that its against hospital policy.

how much was the MRI scan, and at what hospital was it at, if u don't mind me asking? My doctor wants me to get one and i was surprised at the 10K cost. He didn't mention anything about a CT scan, but from what u said i will now ask him if this is a better alternative, and just maybe cheaper

Hi there
I have a hip problem and am looking for an orthopedic surgeon to diagnose it. Dr Mason at Bumrungrad appears well qualified. Can anyone recommend him, is he thorough? Does he rush his consultations? (as many do at Bummers)
As I my experience of Bumrungrad has not been positive i was wondering if anyone knows if he consults at another hospital.
Can anyone recommend another specialist as highly qualified as Dr Mason that works at another hospital?
many thanks

hi there
i live in central BKK and wanna set up a saltwater reef-style aquarium. I have no experience with aquariums so ideally i would like to find a shop or seller that can set up a complete system for me and come to my place regularly to maintain it, at least until such a time i can do it on my own. So if anyone can point me in the right direction or offer any advice, it would be appreciated.

Why import? Check this out ~~~ Might help http://www.westfield-sportscars-thailand.com/
TBWG
well whats that all about?? They're saying you can build yr own trackcar right here in LOS
The claim that track cars in TH are registered and able to drive on public roads seems incredible.
-
surely you don't mean the same registration that a typical road car has. Or can u drive yr porsche on public roads?
-
oh well, suppose we gotta take the bad with the good livin here. Such a shame though
-
What pitfalls, if any, could be encountered if one were to import a kit car for track use only? I wonder what the tax would be, would it be better to ship it in multiple shipments? Could some of it be shipped as 2nd hand car parts?

Riding A "Big Bike" In Thailand W/O Plates
in Motorcycles in Thailand
Posted
I have a question on this general topic that i hope someone can answer, maybe kata or another of the more well informed members
What about a bike that has everything paid for the greenbook and all the papers issued by the transport dept, but the greenbook has not been finished being processed. Is it OK to ride in the meantime or would one be better off waiting till the greenbook has arrived?
cheers
