  1. watched a top gear last night, they tested a caterham (not sure what model), a very gay lookin car but very fast, 0-60 in 2.9!!!!

Stig did a lap of their track and it came in #3, beating the veyron.

Certainly proves says a lot about power to weight ratio. It's been banned from racing because it's "too fast":

"We were banned from production sportscar racing in the UK in the mid-80s because no-one could keep up, and now we are excluded again", explained Simon Nearn, managing director of Caterham Cars.

Last time out, the ultra-reliable lightweight two-seater not only won its class around the fearsome 13-mile Nordschleife circuit, but finished 11th overall from a list of 200 starters that included a host of supercars from BMW and Porsche.

Nearn added: "I guess it’s embarrassing for us to roll up with a car that costs a fraction of the price of the rest of the field, can be driven to and from the track and run for 24 hours without a glitch."

  2. Are there any Chevrolet Engines here with paperwork?

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but came across this today and thought it might be of relevance to those looking for V8 engines in TH:

Scroll down past the 1,001 ads to get to the juicy stuff :D

For those who can't read Thai, note that ราคา xxx000 บาท is the Thai Baht price.. :)

whats the story with that website, seems to be based in US but gives prices in B? Obviously the engines aren't in LOS

does anyone know if those prices are reasonable?

    cheers

  3. anyone else had problems with lazy attendents that end up letting the gas dribble down the paintwork? I'm starting to think i may either have to fill it myself or supervise them to ensure this doesn't happen. I wonder what all these lambo's and ferrari's i see driving around do? Not to mention anyone that values their paintwork!!

Kind hate the thought of actually having to get outa the car......but seems it must be done in order to aviod this.

    cheers

  4. after reading an old thread about the impracticality of farangs importing cars, i was left wondering if thai's fare any better with the crooks at customs. And what about dealers, obviously there are a lot of imported cars here both new and 2nd hand here, it's hard to imagine that every dealer has connections with senior customs officials. So how do these guys get cars imported without being taken to the cleaners by customs?

  5. Bought mine at Homepro

I went to the HomePro at Sukhumvit and Wireless road. I did not find a battery charger. I looked on every floor :-( Which HomePro did you go to for your battery charger please?

I'm hoping to go to Armorn Elect today. This is one example where availability of products in the West far exceed Asia. It'm hoping to find "the mother load" where car "stuff" can be found all in one location. LOL but TIT so maybe this doesn't exist yet. :-(

    Thanks,

    Keoki

I've always been surprised at how few car accessory stores there are here. The biggest i found is a place called Autocar (085-1464688), its near Seacon square, on the same side but about 500m before you get to it, its a huge place, u can't miss it. However they don't sell battery chargers (well, they didn't 6 weeks ago)

I heard there is another big place somewhere in Sathorn, anyone know of it?

  6. I guess that you mean a fish restaurant that serve prawns? As far as I know, almost every fisk retsurant in Thailand have prawn dishes.

    You can find some here, in Bangkok, that should cater for your needs;

no, i didn't mean that. The restaurants i'm refering to have a huge pool full of prawns, they give u a rod and you catch them (which is not easy) and then they BBQ them or cook them in way you want. The place at thonglor was free to fish, but you paid for the prawns u caught per kilo, but i once went to another place where u paid a flat rate per hour ro fish and then u could eat what u caught for 'free'

    cheers

  7. Does anyone know what stance ajarn Sumedho is taking on the matter? His '5 point agreement on silidahra' quoted earlier said nothing.

I met Aj Brahms whilst staying at the Perth monastery shortly after Aj Jagaro left. He seemed to me to be the antithesis of a meditation monk. His public talks were always laced with lame jokes which always seemed most inappropriate to me. I have a tape of one of his talks to the sangha from many years ago where he alluded to the fact that he has attained Release, which i found quite surprising.

He has always struck me as more akin to a Buddhist activist than a meditation monk, hence his ordination of women doesn't surprise me. His actions appear to be a publicity stunt with the intention of him gaining some kind of maverick monastic status.

If this move had of come from a more respected monk with greater powers of discernment, such as Aj Sumedho, far greater support would be forthcoming. But then i suppose someone with reasonable powers of discernment wouldn't be getting involved in petty social issues such as whether women should be ordained or not.

  8. I park at Nuan thip pier, it seems safe enough. Its 80B per day and it apperas that the attendants have a small bungalow right there (for what thats worth). Its shaded with green cloth, so most of yr car will at least be outa the sun. I have an alarm but i still use a steering lock for peace of mind

    cheers
