  1. https://www.trtworld.com/magazine/a-lookback-at-the-zionist-terrorism-that-led-to-israels-creation-15767166 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zionist_political_violence So the Good Friday agreement wasn't the result of secret negotiations between HM government and the IRA? Which was supported without question by many American politicians and Americans while it blew up 100s of innocent bystanders in London and Birmingham. If you think their actions were excusable because they "had a case" do you not think the mind bogglingly vast devastation wreaked on Arabs and others in the middle east by the western Blair/Bush alliance might cause some small resentment amongst its victims? As ye sow, so shall ye reap. We pissed them off. Now, take the rap.
  2. I meant, how do you work out that Europe is basically defenseless. Land armies are proving less and less effective. Russia reputedly has an army of over 3 million. But where is it, and where has it got to in Ukraine? European NATO nations could probably muster the same number. Defending Russia on all sides would be an impossible task. Almost 14,000 miles of borders, with 24 countries, including the US and Japan. It has relatively few large cities. There's nothing there. It's why Putin is so effing paranoid. His only defense would be nuclear.
  3. How do you work that out?
  4. I used them years ago when purchasing a property in Thailand. My daughter works nearby. She might give it a whirl.
  5. Totally bs article. I don't believe a word of it. As usual, no sources. Who's making this up and publishing it as fact? A new low.
  6. I've no idea. POA is possible in certain circumstances. The bank is incredibly unforthcoming. I made a final appeal to them today. Just wouldn't go away until they came out with something other than "my die". Yes, I know it was my fault, but they were just incredibly unhelpful. Of course, I got no result. But I couldn't even get their brains into gear. Like, maybe thinking? Learnt in the process the Beach Rd branch is closing, and all of the Soi post office customers have been, or are being, relocated to what they call the Pratamnak branch. Joke. It's nowhere near Pratamnak. It's on 2nd road, the Indian end.
  7. She'll be over one day. It could just be a long wait.
  8. Quite agree. I've no idea why she never did this before.
  9. Have you confronted her with this? Asked her wtf is going on? Threatened legal action?
  10. You can't. Maybe Dee money but it takes a bit of setting up. KYC etc.
  11. She'll have to visit the branch in person. 300km from Bangkok. She has Thai id which should match their records. A Thai ID never changes. I think that's the only possible outcome. As for St Mary Axe, I used to visit there, and after I gave them a copy of my tax return certificate, they allowed me to transfer over the usual limit. I got quite friendly with them. So they can do branch to branch transfers.
  12. If I leave my tap water in a saucepan or bowl for more than 24 hours, it smells of hydrogen sulphide, ie bad eggs. God only knows what bacteria is causing that. But I can't find a water testing lab in Pattaya.
  13. "The ฿30 million villa, central to this saga, has been declared legally built. However, the company might have violated the law by employing proxy Thai shareholders. " The house was legally built, meaning, presumably, the building permit was in order and the structure met the required building regs. If they used proxy shareholders to buy the land, that's a different matter. But look at land ownership in Thailand. "Foreign ownership" is illegal. But Thai lawyers never get prosecuted for enabling it.
  14. A house is not the same as the land it's built on.
  15. What use is 50% of a house?
  16. I did transfer £1500 and will have to wait for het to visit me here in due course to get the THB back. Hopefully this year!
  17. She has no access from abroad
  18. Maybe. I used to use it years ago to send money out to Thailand. It was in St Mary Axe. Another good suggestion.
  19. Not sarcasm. Satire, spoof or irony maybe. But many people can't recognise that kind of humour, and take it literally, and thus offense, which just shows an extraordinary lack of sophistication. Slapstick is the preferred medium. But this guy had my ex falling off her chair laughing . A girl from rural Phrae with 5 years education. She got it. These idiots in Bangkok don't. So who are the real clowns?
  20. I owed my Thai daughter £1500. Instead of paying her in sterling to her UK bank account, I put 70k THB into her Bangkok bank account. Then realised she has no access to it from the UK. No online banking, no card, no book. My branch of BKK bank just said she'd have to come to Thailand in order to access her account. That's as far as I've got. She's no plans to visit Thailand this year. I thought maybe if she closed her account she'd have to nominate another account to which to transfer the balance. I didn't get as far as asking in my branch if that would be possible. I'll go back tomorrow and ask. She has Thai id and passport. But, has anyone else got themselves into this jam? And found a way out? Stupid me, as I said.
  21. Shows how stupid people can be, more like. Why are there still unsuspecting individuals who fall for this? Where's the government public information service alerting people to fraud, scams and bs phone calls? There's no attempt to educate the vulnerable or gullible. The tambons could set up local programs, hold meetings and generally educate people. Surely? Forget soft sticky power!
