  1. Just curious:I remember 5 or 6 years ago while staying in Pattaya, I caught some cold, it felt like one.But the sympthoms were different from what I get in Europe: 2-3 days of t=37.3-37.5Cand after that the temperature drops to 35.3 in the morning, 35.7 at night.Loss of appetite, weakness, fatigue. And it continues from several days to a week. No runny nose, sore throat, upset stomach. And its not an STD or anything like that :)Then it gets better and wears itself out.I'm just wondering if anybody else experienced it? Could be a flu but without fever ormuscle pain.

why not visit a clinic and get a blood test

I experienced a similar conditiom and was diagnosed after tests with Influenza Type A. An agrivating skin irritation followed for some weeks that was doagnosed by another Doctor as an allergy but that proved to be untrue after an allergen test. All's well now. A blood test will put your mind at rest.

  2. "ask good questions."

How about for once he provide good answers instead of the usual dribble.

I think the word's 'drivel' but surely the PM should answer questions regarding the constitution if nothing else as the issue seems to me fundamental and of great importance both to the Thai people and internationally. Understandably the work is tiresome but allocation in answering questions should be directed at present, in my view, to other issues.

I should imagine that people are frustrated as the process has taken longer than they expected; what are the new plans to rid both the voting system and the executive of corruption; is it a policing department of the military or what and what's being put in place regarding the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary?

Give your last question to some journalist to ask the PM next they meet. Gone on I dare you!

  3. Has anyone has experience with asking or expecting an autopsy to be carried out after the demise of a friend or relative here in Thailand? A close friend died on the 22 January in the Bangkok Hospital in Hat Yai following a Triple Bypass heart operation. He survived three days after the op but suddenly an unknown complication set in and he died within minutes of complaining about struggling to breath. His Heart doctor who helped to carry out CPR and failed apologized to me and his visiting Australian family and suspected a pulmonary embolism was the cause. I said 'well I suppose you'll learn just what the cause was when you do the Autopsy. "no we don't do autopsies here in Thailand" I asked him if he wasn't the least bit curious to find the cause. He just repeated his last remark. I was surprised that despite my friend paying a Cash Deposit of 450,000 prior to his operation, they insisted on cash, No Cheques Please"the cause of his demise would be of great interest to the hospital.

My Thai wife died on the 28 January 2014 from suspected liver cirrhosis and at that time I asked the doctor to do an autopsy to discover the extent of the damage. This was in the Rajaviti hospital Bnagkok. Hs answer was much the same as the above but he added 'we only do autopsies if insurance is involved. But I've heard from other sources that if requested an autopsy will be carried out. Can anybody add information that might shed light on this mystery?

  4. Have any members been redirected to report to their nearest Immigration Office instead of the acceptance of a completed online form? Friends of mine have sometimes managed to complete the process and others not. Is there a time limit for a report to be submitted? I have 7 days left of my 90 days and I do know a 15 day report prior to the reporting day and an extension of 7 days of that day is allowed. I tried out of curiosity to complete the online report but i was told to report to my nearest immigration office. Thank you.

  5. This decent clean living man, Peter Anatolia, a friend of mine was very ill and was recovering from a recent very serious operation. He was an ex Royal Australian Navy Petty Officer (served for 25 years plus)and was a moderate drinker and I would be surprised to learn he was intoxicated. He was born in Geelong Victoria from Russian Parents. We that knew him will miss his presence. RIP Peter

  6. Gullable people are every where , Massage jobs overseas really ! TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE , having the money 10k - 30k to spend up front , when a little 15 baht session on the internet looking at employment rules of the countries offered, so many quotes are applicable to this scam,

Unfortunately whether the amounts offered are true or not the girls fall for it. The mother of my 2 1/2 year old girl is stuck in Johannesburg South Africa along with several other Thai girls and has been there nearly a year and a half. She claims she doesn't have enough money to come home and I don't have enough coin to send to her. Whatever and however she got there I don't know and heavens knows how long she'll be there.

  7. The rule does not state seasoning is needed for the combination method. See clause 2.22 of Police Order 327/2557 basis for extension of stay.

Some immigration offices insist that it be seasoned though.

No need to pack up and leave. Just make a trip to Vientiane to get a single entry non-o visa. Show them your income letter and bank book totaling 800k baht. The money only has to be in the bank on the date you apply. Then apply for your extension during the last 30 days of the 90 entry the visa will allow.

'"Some immigration offices insist.. " the key word here is 'some'. The current inspector in Phuket, usually, has no hesitation in allowing an extension if a withdrawal of any amount is deposited within a few days during the 3 months it is deposited. It is par for the course that not all immigration officers follow the rules anywhere in Thailand. Very unfortunate for the OP and absolutely no compassion from the Thai Officer he dealt with.

  8. This surely is a joke. Eighty percent reduction on road fatalities? The authorities would need to massively increase traffic police, increase fines, introduce moving violations, introduce serious jail times for offenders, reeducate the masses on traffic behaviour. Sorry; when pigs fly then it might, just might happen. Thai drivers are the most inconsiderate, stupid drivers in the world. They're all mad.

  9. Wasnt there an American tourist that did the same thing not too long ago while driving in Bangkok? As I recall this person not only drove the wrong way but crashed through multiple cars, motorbikes and at one point, was driving on the sidewalk no less.

Oddly enough, this type of occurrence is quite common in developed countries like the US/UK where drivers not only will drive on the wrong side of the road, but use their vehicles to plow into large groups of people.

...crazy farang, always trying to prove that life imitates art

Don't forget Americans and some other countries drive on the wrong side of the road. It amazes me that most get home safely.wub.png

  10. I've never encountered something like that here before after many years but why am I not surprised? Generalizing; a Thai behind the wheel anywhere can be and is often super dangerous but I've never heard of an explanation for that behaviour, In my expeirience most Thai people are generally very welcoming, polite and considerate when not behind a wheel but become different people when behind a wheel

  11. You will get an extension of stay (not a visa) from Chaeng Wattana, the terminology is important.

Anyway back to the question, you may get a visit on your first application (which yours will be).

The terminology is not really all that important Crossy especially as even most Thai front line OR officers don't fully comprehend the difference but yes you're right he already has a Non 'O' immigrant visa, either issued here in Thailand or from outside the country which he can extend to a category allowing him to stay for a longer period.

  12. I would never let this stuff be injected into my body. I'm 71 years old and have never had a flu shot. And I haven't had the flu in forty years. Also during this time I've taken no aspirin and only used antibiotics two times.

Until; three months ago I would have agreed with you. Similarly I had not experienced an attack of influenza for decades and did not take an annual influenza shots. But I contracted Influenza Type A in Phuket in July, diagnosed by the MIssion Hospital. I thought at first it was just a runny nose, slight fever and an occasional itch mostly on my back however It progressed to small dermatitis like irritations on my arms, hands, but most of all on my back I nearly went crazy trying to relieve the itch which was so hard to reach. After a period of pills etc, a doctor said i had an allergy and gave m another round of pills. I asked what is the allergy? He said I don't know but try this medicine it should help. How, I asked can t=you prescribe pills for something you have no idea what the problem is? No answer.

Another GP has started me on steroid injections, which type I don't know but they appear to be working. I intend to get an annual flu shot from now on. I'm 75.

  13. Short answer YES. Recent changes in Phuket require any alien to be present to have an ID photo taken after an application has been approved. Don't fall into the trap of many who are told children under 14/15 do not need visa extensions. Presumably the child entered the country on a Non 'O' Ed visa or a Non 'O'.non descriptive. Either way it needs to be extended for one year. Problems can occur if the child is involved in an accident and is here on an expired VOA or VEE. The insurance company could declare that the child is in Thailand illegally and therefore refuse to pay any insurance. on those grounds

  14. If you are married to a Thai you can obtain a single entry "O" visa based on marriage which you can extend by 60 days at immigration for the purpose of "visiting" your wife.

If your wife will not be in Thailand this will not be a viable option as she would need to accompany you to get the extension.

"O" visas entries are non extendable except as above.

Tourist visa entries can be extended once for 30 days

There are , as yet no details about the 6 month tourist visa.

A Tourist Visa Exemption Extension can be extended by 30 days (dependent on your country of origin ) for 60 days based on your application to stay with a Thai wife or child. If the alien arrived on a Visa on Arrival (fee 1000 Baht on arrival ) the alien can apply for a 60 day extension for the same reasons as above. It's. up to the Thai Immigration Officer in charge to accept or reject the applicants request. The alien must provide proof of relationship to either the child or the Thai spouse. You do not have to be married if a child is the sole reason of your application and I have witnessed a Thai DEFACTO or common marriages relationship as being an acceptable reason to stay. Joint Property ownership and/or long term joint bank accounts will greatly assist in the applicant's favour.
