Yaris  best Bang for your dollar !!

I had the misery of driving a Yaris for a week. it was a new rental with only 1500 miles on it. my Sentra was not returned and i wasn't going to wait 3 hrs at the airport on a holiday weekend. give me what you got, bad mistake. it shaked and rsttled on smooth roads, can't imagine what it would do hear in Thailand. the engine was noisy and had the power of a sick grass cutter. it might work here with no speeding cause it was always the last off the light in new york. i drove it to niagara falls from buffalo and it would change lanes by itself no matter what size car or truck passed it. poor acceleration, cheap interior, get a mitsi or mazda 2. shake rattle and roll !!!!

and all those thais around him

Need to teach these Ignorant Thais how to Drive !!!!  They will take it out on you if you let them. had a bunch of Thais tried to play games with me in the 70's at Ubon.  after i cracked a cinder block wall they all ran. Took Tai Kwon Do from a Korean on base. Did not touch anyone, but the wall was enough for them to flee !!!  Never used it in a fight !!!!   :wai:

I've been here going on 9 years now, and my "happiness level" is about the same as it was in the beginning.  First, I had no illusions about Thailand being "paradise", or the perfect place for me to live.  I accepted it as a new, different country, with it's up's & down's, it's good & bad, like any place else, including the U.S., where I came from.  I didn't come to Thailand for Thailand. I came to Thailand to get away from the U.S., which was becoming much too expensive for me to live on my VA Disability pension.

I've been married to the same woman, who is only 10 years younger than I am, for most of those 9 years, and have a wonderful, loving adopted son, who is working on his Master's in Thai Education, and a niece studying for her law degree, who calls me her dad as well.  Life is good.  Perfect?  Not by a long shot, but 10 times, or more, better than it would be back in the States living alone in an apartment.  I speak enough Thai so that when I take a 2-4 day road trip on my bike, I have no problems getting by.

Life ain't "great", but it's damn good for me, and that's just fine.

Sorry you had an apartment and no one to share it with. Thailand was great in the 70's and 80's but after that each year it ha been going down. Too much restrictions and hoop jumping just because i'm not Thai. My house 2 cars and motorcycle in Florida are all paid for. I have relatives here that i come to visit but it gets so boring after awhile. i'm not a whore monger or gutter drunk so that aspect has no appeal to me. I also have my VA pension and it works fine for me in Florida !!! iI once tried a retirement visa and i was climbing the walls to get back to America. after 8 months. My wife is Thai and she would rather stay in America too!!!  Been married 43 years and am still happy with a wife who worked herself up to be a General Manager of a Fast Food company. I have a house in Korat, city limits that i stay in when i visit. The medical care here is not the greatest in the world and always check any meds given out bu Bangkok and St. Mary's hospitals because they do not care about your own medications and interactions. Twice had i not looked up the medications for interactions i probably would have died!!! This is after i gave the doctors a copy of my current medications. The streets here have not changed from the 70's. Now with all the Idiots on the road i have someone drive me, not to mention the terrible traffic problems too. Thai people themselves have changed allot. i remember before when your Thai friends would pay for you and or share an expense. Now everyone wants your money and most attractions cost you more because your not Thai. Basically a nice place to visit but i would never, ever stay here Permanently!!!!!

Phakhin said that he had argued with his boyfriend before he left on the trip. Security had often been called in the past with noise coming from the apartment.

Wouldn't that be enough to see his boyfriend as the possible cause of death? RIP, you went way too early.

My condolences to his family and friends.

    Stick with women  !!!!!

Cynicism aside, but if they'd have researched it properly, they'd see that it's a popular backpacker place and was 'turned' a long time ago. 'Idyllic' in Thailand nowadays really requires a boat ride to a secluded island/beach.

Need to get rid of these trashy backpackers  !!!!  back in the early 70's Immigration would not give you a tourist visa without proof

of money and they could turn you down just by the way you looked , I.E. Hippie Types, greaseball hair and unkemp appearance.

Need to start doing it again !!!!!     The good old days  !!!!

He should be embarrassed even bringing up that bill.

Where does he get that he was overcharged from?

If his bill was for thousands of baht understandable, not jut a few hundred.

Sorry i do not agree that hospitals here over charge farangs.

Every 3 weeks i go to our local hospital for 3 hours intensive physio 670 baht

Sometimes 1 physio and assistant with me sometimes 2.

Cost is 670 baht  small charge for 2/3 professionals time.

Come on, a few hundred baht and he is complaining????  i just spent 79, 000 baht for my wifes stay in ICU in Korat for Aspiration Pneumonia.  She is still in the hospital in a regular private room and is getting oxygen and rehab. I consider this price reasonable eventhough she would get it free in America, but she cannot fly.

you would suspect that maybe he dosent have the skills to  to help himself  eg manners!!!

Back in the 70's had allot of Hippie/Backpackers try to get into Thailand. Mostly scum, looking for handouts. Back then Immigration

would not let you come into the country and a tourist visa was only two weeks. Time to Throw out the Trash here in Thailand !!!!

It gives a bad name to all of us who respect the laws and look and act respectable  !!!!!

  8. I remember Pattaya back in the early 70'S when it was a one lane street with a tree growing in the middle of it. Back then the water was blue and only 1 Hotel, the Pattaya Palace.  rest were guest houses. I was stationed at Ubon RTAFB  from 70-72. Twelve hours by train from Ubon to Bangkok. had a few European tourists, very gross men and women who did not use deoderant or shave. The women had more hair under there arms then me !!!! Some wore bikikis and all the gross pubes hung out as well as not shaving there legs. Gross !!!

    :bah:

  9. At 500k-600k a year for international school in my case times 2 about a million baht. I am seriously considering schools in the usa. My thoughts are it doesn't need to be until they are around ten years old. The thai private school should be sufficient for the time being.

My Grandson is going to an International school in Korat run by Singapore. He is learning 3 languages at one time and he is only 6 years old. his I.Q. is up there so i like the idea of stayin till 10, then going to America for higher education,

Will be my son and his wifes decision !!!!! thumbsup.gif

  10. I've actually seen worse. Not that long ago, I witnessed a German 92 year old living with an 18 year old here in Udon. If that wasn't bad enough, they had already been together for 2 years. I heard he died just shortly after, but I'm still baffled and speechless about it, like <deleted> ?

    (Yeah, I'm not joking)

Another couple I met in the very same village is a 86 year old (also German) being married to a 24 year old. While it's less controversial legally, biologically and neurologically, I can't help using the exact same words again, <deleted> ?

    It's just not right...

but you forget they were in love cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Don't be to quick to judge, I k new an 18 year girl in Ubon that was totally in love with a 68 year old man and wanted to marry him, but he would not marry her. Most of her friends liked him a lot also. Don't know what the attraction was, but wish I knew as some of her friends were beautiful. He had no money, looked old as all get out and had teeth missing in front. Go figure.

    Long Tongue !!! bah.gif

  12. I think this account holds some truth to it. In prison, inmates run what happens inside and guards only watch and, as in this case, the guards perhaps are as evil as the inmates.. What bother me so about this is that this guy is probably in jail just because he is a foreigner. I have read so many instances where death has occurred due to negligent driving yet, the Thai never seems to go to prison for it. A good example is this recent case where the guy drove 200 kph and crashed into the back of a car killing to students. I don't see him even looking at a charge for their deaths, only his bad driving. Pathetic to see double standards across the board with foreigners and Thai.

Welcome to the Land of Two Smiles !!!! Falang and Thai !!! sad.png

  13. It is their first offence. Even they did a terrible thing. A first offence for assault does not carry a prison sentence. Not only in Thailand, but all western countries also. So when everyone hears that they got a fine and a 4 month suspended sentence, don't be complaining that they got special treatment, because victims were foreigner. This is the standard sentence, including in our countries.

no so! in the United States they have a "hate" crime law that includes old folks! hit an old person and go to jail! period

Show me the law and the penalty.

This would come under the common assault law. It was not premeditated and first offence.

Though there is an extra penalty, for assault if it was 2 or more doing the crime.

    Suspended sentence. Standard.

I also get sick of people going on about victims being paid off to avoid prison. This is not true. Thailand has a very good law, that every victim is entitled to compensation from the criminal. This sum can be agreed upon before court, it has no bearing on the criminal sentence which by the law must be enforced. Or, the victim can prosecute the criminal in a civil case if victim feels compensation is not enough.

Many countries do not have the victims compensation law. Everyone makes money, the lawyers, the court (fines ) with the victim recieveing nothing. I have been a victim, the money does help cover costs of medical, court attendances, and other.

What have you been smoking???? What meds are you on?????
