  1. I always believed that the gold price was set by the world market. Interesting it has gone down 3.2% in Thailand, and 4.5% everywhere else. Would this not be called "price-fixing"? Why would you buy gold here, if it is above the market in the rest of the world?

gold in Thailand is sold at exactly the world market price (see below) with the advantage that bid/ask (buy/sell) difference is lower in Thailand.

some people arrive at wrong assumptions, respectively calculations because they compare apples with oranges by not taking the different currencies in which gold is quoted into consideration.

    example:

-the selling price of 1 Baht weight is today THB 18,200

-world market price of gold per Troy ounce USD 1,099.50

-one Troy ounce of gold is the equivalent of ~2.0438 Baht weights

-the mid exchange rate US-Dollar/Thai Baht today is 34.89

    18200 : 34.89 = $521.64 x 2.0438 = $1,066.12 x 1.0363 (Thai gold purity only 96.5%) = $1,105 minus goldshop margin = $1,099.50 = difference zero!

this lesson is free of charge although i have wasted at least 5 minutes of my precious time.

The question is why would an idiot by Thai gold which is not .9999 Gold per ounce elseware???? thumbsup.gif

  2. When the economy went south in the USA many more people applied for Social Security Disability....there is serious fraud here. Combining the funds would be the wrong thing to do. Deal with the fraud problem.

This is why I say fix the problem and create more jobs. More people paying in and less people applying.

I think most people want to work, even the disabled, but what else to do if you can't find work.

I actually think there is very little fraud. Anyone who has gone through the process knows it is not easy to get approved.

To be approved for social security benefits you have to prove you are unable to work!!!! SSI and all the free stuff Obama gives to his own is what is the problem!!! only under obama has the COLA not been increased!!!

The idiots who voted for him wanted a change and now they are getting it!!!!! no other president has destroyed so much of the American DReam!!! I hope America will turn around once he is gone!! sad.png

  3. Why don't they hold the exercise in the Philippines? Just as interesting a place for R&R.

After Thailand closed all the US bases we had a huge exercise every year at Clark AFB called COPE THUNDER. We also had a huge exercise in Korea called TEAM SPIRIT. These were held each year. I was on the first return exercise

    \

to Thailand in 1982 called COMMANDO WEST. This turned into COBRA GOLD, wai2.gif

  4. Get the attention of the Thai government by suspending all International flights by Thai Airlines!!! Maybe they might get some qualified personnel then.

They charge ridiculous prices to L.A and the service is not even worth mentioning. they charge $500 more than most other Airlines, which i paid before

because they were the only non stop to Bangkok. Not no more, so why not lower your price???? If you can pass the FAA'S requirements. sad.png

  5. They really have no idea about how to run a country or efficiency. The only thing they can do is create mountains of red tape.

8,000 Baht, about the same penalty as causing death in a vehicle accident. Thailand is in for a real shock when Asia opens up it borders.

"They really have no idea about how to run a country or [sic] efficiency."

You mean like the cutting edge efficiency of the collapsing Eurozone countries or the superbly efficient management of economies & financial markets more generally in the west?

    debt_460x231.jpg

Let all the Euro Zone countries follow Greece and get out of Thailand!!!!

  6. What's the big deal about bringing your wife with you? Retirement Visa's are for 1 year so surely bringing your wife with you one time can't be such a hassle whistling.gif

For the past 5 years Korat immigration has requested new forms, paperwork , etc. just to extend my type o visa. Every year is something else!!!! Last year they said my "Original" thai marriage license was not enough and needed a bunch of printouts from both my wife and myselves stay in thailand. The license was from 1973!!!

Yes it is hard to to bring your wife of 42 years when she has Parkinsons, 2 strokes and is bed-ridden!!! Yes, i always have her doctors statement stating so everytime!!! bah.gif

  7. No work permit then you cannot work. As much asmany do.not agree. In this case however there are hundreds of thousands of Thais who speak chinese and could do this job and infact do. So no need for imported chinese photographers.

And what is the price that they charge compared to the other photographers??? 4 or 5 times more for the falang tourist!!! sad.png

  9. See the nation is really showing it's allegiance to the yellow dem junta coalition .

No need for attitude adjustment with them it's always been there and they just keep churning out bias articles which sends the yellow dems into a zombie like feeding frenzy.

Won't help at election time though!

    What Election???? LOL cheesy.gif

  10. I don't know how far / wide / fast local news travels, but on the basis of this website and the proportion of news items about Pattaya of a negative nature and with a negative impact on farang residents and visitors, I can't say I'm in a desperate rush to come for a visit.

I am ready to go back to the old USA!!! Five months and enough BS for this time. I visit my son and grandson every year. but the last 6 years has been getting worse with changes in immigration. Supposed searches? Been lucky, not yet. The way these idiots drive, if you can call it driving. Just an overall change in the Thai attitude, Years ago I wished about living here. Now, never happen!!! Thailand is not making any good points to the "Civilized World" bah.gif

What specific changes in immigration are you referring to? If anything, they have gotten easier, especially for developed country tourists like Americans. I don't recall any immigration changes over the past 6 years that would make it more difficult for an American visiting Thailand as a tourist. Again, what searches do you refer? I've lived in Bangkok and Pattaya for 15 years and never been stopped, let alone searched, by the police. As to driving, I've been slightly rear-ended once in over 10 years of driving in Thailand, while in America, I was rear-ended (not from a ladyboy) but by mmaniacaldrivers, the last one who totaled my vehicle and took off without stopping, leaving me for dead for all he/she knew. No, I think I prefer driving in Thailand thank you.

So do you have any facts or specific examples to support your opinions or are you just a Debby Downer on Pattaya and party of the down on Pattaya brigade.

I'm curious...what visa extension do you stay on?

I come over on a type 0 non immigrant visa for 3 months. at first I was able to extend 90 days no problem. then the next year only 60 days and finally this year I had to leave the country and come back on a tourist visa and I got a 30 day extension for the holidays. korat immigration was ridiculous with so many people and only 15 ques in the am and pm

  11. Vietnam war.

Wrong! Both Thailand and the PI were close allies and the recipients of massive amounts of development aid, grants and millions of dollars of tea money during and after the Vietnam War. Thailand has prospered tremendously the PI has not. Closing down Clark AFB was a disaster for the PI. Let's face it. Thai's are much more sophisticated and intelligent that Filipinos . Flips are more greedy, less trusting and consequently less able to negotiate with Western powers. Thailand on the other hand was able to establish and set up "gentleman's agreements" with the USA during the Vietnam war based on mutual trust and understanding that continue to this day. Thailand was and is more democratic that the PI. The US had to deal with the Marcos regime which during and after the war sucked the country dry. I could go on but I'm sure there are others that can add more.

The only reason Thailand is ahead of the Phillippines now is because of the volcano, Mt.Pinatubo. I spent 3 years in Thailand and 9 years in the P.I. Thailand was a forth world country compared to the Phillippines. They had Malls and Industry while Thailand had water buffalos. Clark AFB.was the largest military base in the world. The craftsman of the P.I. would put the Thais to shame and do the same job in half the time. I had a 67 Camaro fully restored in the P.I. and had many American mechanics just marvel at the workmanship. I paid a total of $3000 for the car and a complete rebuild to include body off the frame. They even had replacement parts in stock. No Thai jerry rigging either. I sold it for $35000 and after the sale people offered the new owner even more. Wait and see what happens to Thailand when the American and Japanese companies pull out. also would hate to see what would happen to Thailand if Bangkok got hit with a Super Typhoon. End of game for Thailand!w00t.gif

  12. Just a 30 day extension.

As I had paid the fine, I (wrongly ?) assumed that my 'crime' had been paid for.

In the past, the airport immigration happily accepted my overstay payment with no mentions of this being a 'crime'. Either things have changed or I got the wrong immigration person on arrival.

Sorry, no more playing games with overstays!!! Keep it up and you will be blacklisted and not allowed to enter Thailand again!!! bah.gif

  13. I wouldn't eat them......unless the it is really very bad.

Take the valium, it will relax your muscles and help your breathing. The 5 MG is not a large dose. I have been taking 5MG 3x a day for the past 12 years. no problems for me and I am 64. I am surprised that they did not give you Ambien for your sleep problems or even Xanax to help you sleep better. I take meds for high blood pressure, hypothyroid, type 2 diabetes and acid reflux with no problems between the meds. Just can't drink allot, lol. I forgot the PTSD, that is why I have the valium, Xanax, and ambien. Still kicking and no problems so far after 12 plus years.

  14. Why does Thailand open its doors to these types of people?

I'm sure with his attitude and mouth, he will get noticed very soon in BKK and someone will rat him in.

    It's a pretty simple explanation.

Unless there is something logged on his Passport records to show he is a wanted man which would be flagged up at Immigration he would gain entry to Thailand just like everyone else,

In fact he would gain entry to nearly every country on the planet

So to summarize what is your point about somehow blaming Thailand for something that is the British Authorities fault for not confiscating or flagging his passport?

You have to consider the Brits are as smart as the Thais, after all they accepted the B.S. from Thailand on the deaths of 2 of their residents wink.png
