In more civilised societies, the place would have been named, contact tracing is carried out immediately and everyone who has been to the venue will be asked to be in self-quarantine. But this is Thailand. So greed overrides all considerations, even if public safety and health is at stake. And only 70 cases with this indifferent attitude and all the faffing about? You guys are really doing a fantastic job! You should share your best practices with your neighbours Malaysia and Singapore.

You guys dont get it. These 11 people probably spent days/weeks since getting infected in BKK. They would have visited more than 1 place. There are probably lots of infected places, not just that one spot. There are probably others without symptoms that have already been infected.

Avoiding that 1 bar isn't going to do much

https://www.nichada.com/ is easily the most child friendly neighbourhood in Bangkok. Very few cars, dedicated cycle lanes that are actually respected, and footpaths and walkways too. There are a ton of other amenities and regular family orientated and other expat friendly activities are organised as well.

This has to be the most bike friendly neighborhood there is. Its like a mini slice of white picket America in Thailand

A 500 baht fine for each day after your visa expires.

It's not the fine that's the problem. It's the overstay stamp that will be visible in your passport when you reapply for a visa or enter the country.

I was always told not to overstay for even one day because that stamp can come back to haunt you later and I live by that advice here.

yep, the overstay can cause other issues. for example, they wont give elite visas if you have had overstays in the past few years.

  4. Its 2020 and it looks like they just started to work on this project. They are connecting asoke to Nana.

With that, you would be able to walk from asoke to Siam without having to leave the skywalk (I think currently you need to swipe your card to get through ploenchot of chidlom though). They should add a walk around option though.

Good to see progress on this but the superskywalk is still a long way off.

I hope they can connect it from ekkamai to national stadium at the very least.

I have to agree. I'm on extensions based on retirement. The requirements have changed over the years. I now have a 1 mill FD account to keep things simple.

Previously I needed stuff all. 800k in Thai bank 3 month prior then I just lived off that. Last about 6-7 month. Easy days.

If I was 50 I would buy the 20 year EV option.

Not a brag just good option is you have the dosh.

Elite is even a better deal for us younger guys.

If i was 50, I'd probably just get a Non-O, but we don't have other options.

Lots of good and cheap Ideo(t) condos after bagna BTS. A real bargain, really.

You can find cheap rooms in most areas of the city.

I had a 55sqm 1 bedroom in Nana that was literally less than 2min walk to the BTS for 13,500. If you looked online for the same building, you cant even get a 30sqm studio in there for less than 16,000.

Like a lot of things in life, it really pays to have a social network and meet people. You can get much better deals as a 'friend of a friend' than as a random farang.

I would rather live in huay kwang, din dang, suttisan than On Nut/Bang Na.  Especially if the numbers of Chinese keeps dipping.  Also a website called myhipflat.

I lived in Din Daeng / Huay Kwang years ago and the area is pretty <deleted> now compared to what it once was.

Huay Kwang night market was killed off when they started banning street markets

Most of the soapies are shut down

Chinese took over the area and killed the vibe.

Talad Rod Fai was great then killed off by the Chinese

The best chicken restaurant ever moved out of the area (this one gutted me as its nearly impossible to get quality gai yang in central bkk)

Hell, even my favorite seafood buffet got destroyed by the chinese. it went from 299 for unlimited seafood and beers, to 500 baht for unlimited seafood and no beer.

The area has really taken a hit and the construction in rama9 is insane and making the traffic in the area worse than it already was.

I still like the area, but its not the lowkey bargain and cool spot that it used to be

The closest station would be victory Monument. Closest to my work.

    5 minutes by walking

Get a place nearby then. There are apartments around Soi Rangnam.

Ratchatewi is nice and central too and not far from victory. I lived there before. It is great as you can walk into Siam and Chula area. Cocowalk and the thai food places around phetchaburi are great, and you also have easy access to the water boat at hua chang to travel fast.

you could also go further up around Ari. Ari is a really nice neighbourhood.

I'm wondering, in light of the current/future tourism struggles, if there may be a discount or special offer on obtaining the elite visa in the near future.

I'd say if anything its more likely to get more expensive as visa rules tighten and more people move to elite visas

same...many officers there are really angry...i saw one falang at the booth so freaked out when the guy told him to step away and returning him the passport cause he did not wrote down the hotel where he stay....so he was so angry at the guy.....and the guy just stepped back and did not know what to do.....they are not nice anymore like they were 9 years ago.....things changed......a lot......seems like all the girls wore fake contact lenses 9 years ago, now nobody does it anymore....same goes for immigration and treatment of falangs...you are not important to them anymore.....and there is a rule apparently that the kindness is not necessary anymore...

hasn't been my experience. i even had the security girl at DMK flirting with me last time i went through the security checkpoint.

im still going with thai elite as I'm in my early 30s and its just easy to get TE and not have to worry about any future potential issues.
