The world is watching
Ha ha; Family in Britain and France tell me there is no news of any of it whatsoever as of last night.
It was on both bbc, Al Jazeera as well as the guardian.

Does anyone think this was deliberately done during the low season so that it can be resolved in time for high season?
-
This seems like more of a preventative measure than anything more tbh I suspect this was done to prevent the red shirt crowds growing to large numbers as they did last time.

You should have said something. As farang we have duty to lead by example when in another country, and that includes pointing out uncouth behaviour.

If it's not suthep talking about a final push it's Thai visa members replying with something along the lines of 'not another push'.

2 words Thai Visa - Russian Doll
Does this mean anything to you? So annoying having to scroll down so many embedded quotes. There should be a rule against this. Anyway....
I read on Michael Yon's page that Taksin is in SG trying to negotiate a deal. He wants his money back as well as all cases dropped against his family including the rice deal. In return the government will resign. If not he threatens to fight.
How much money is he owed?

I understand your frustration. It is the responsibility of the police to handle this. I believe Adul is interested in doing his job, but some think his seniors may not be. If the police can't handle this, then Prayuth can step in. He can help in the form of a civil action to back the police or call martial law into effect. Either way, this would not be a coup and would leave this up to the courts and politicians. This may be a silly question but can the military not just take charge and then get The Kings advice on how to proceed? That article by some academics on a temporary neutral government sounds like the best idea. Surely if it came down from the King himself people would stop all this madness?
What you seem to be suggesting (or hoping for), is a coup. To the extent possible, it is always best to avoid a coup.

It's very sad to see events escalate in the way it has. I don't know much about the history of both parties. I'm just a regular joe who had enjoyed visiting this great country as a tourist. A coup would seem like the lesser of 2 evils and could force through reforms.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. If you have nothing to hide then why worry? Ok it may add a bit of extra time when your entering the kingdom but so what?
I guess if one is in a rush then they can always purchase one of the fast track options.

So let's say a new election is called for August. What is suthep going to do given his protest numbers are decreasing all the time? Another protest?

This sounds like a great idea.

Does anybody really know how to sort this mess out?

Not sure about Colombia but I know Brazil is muyto expensive vs Thailand. The sexpat tourist will always come to Thailand because they can get exactly what they wants in Thailand and that’s what can’t get in his home country , high end tourists and family oriented tourists don’t come to Thailand now I am sure it is well down their destinations to Must Go to list, it’s just not worth the risk , airport closed shooting by the military and protesters in downtown Bangkok, daily tourist murders and rapes, plenty countries to visit in Asia without the additional violent troubles and concerns to be had in Thailand, take the wife and kids somewhere safer than a war zone for a holiday to relax on a quiet clean beach.
got some bad news for you,
the sex tourists need not go to thailand, as, the supply demand factor, more supply than demand, has the hottest, youngest prettiest, whitest girls from Cuba, Venezuela, Columbia and Brazil, (slightly darker)
for a lot less than it cost to deal with Thailand.
the girls are priced the same, assuming you dont want a pig from a bar
to clarify:
its the Miami - Ft Lauderdale market I refer,
they are coming here and have flooded the market, literally,
what is 3,000 baht in the best soap joint,
is the same here, no time wasted in the bath either
Ok thanks i misread your original post.

This industry you talk of is smaller per capita compared to places like the Phillipenes, USA or Taiwan. People make such a fuss about it as Thais are less coy about it. And the scene for farangs is a fraction compared to that available for locals. So please stop with your rhetoric on sexpats. It's the oldest occupancy in the book and was here long before farang stepped foot in the kingdom.

If Thailand wishes to meet international standards they need to upgrade the way they think about people with different coloured skin, culture and even religion. My Thai wifes family always refer to me by my name. They do this because they are educated enough to realise that farang/nego/keck is offensive. Alot of other Thais still refer to me as farang.
I remember a Thai referring to an Bangladeshi in a racist manner; I pointed out that Buddha came from India. He gave me the most strange look!
Probably off topic but this really confuses me. How can they be Buddhist but not know about his connections with India?

How long do you all think this could drag on for? I was due to fly into Bangkok in June but now I'm not sure if maybe I should put it off till later in the year. Do you think this will conclude soon or stretch out for the rest of the year?

I don't see how people can moan about travel advice being issued. If something were to kick off and a countries citizens traveled there without warning they would come off as irresponsible.

There won't be a civil war, the army will step in ,all over in a very short time and Red leaders leaving the country
i hope so.
-
Is it really "peaking"?
Seems like there is still much room for escalation.
If The army utilizes the sections along highway 2 and feeders then no red army armed will be trailing down to BKK, same goes for Highway 4 from the south.
This was not done before the last siege of BKK, because of a LAZY police force, so we may as well not have a police force and let the army control civilians----there would be less flaming road blocks for money--caring and protecting the public is a priority---less crime. Army courts to convict.
Everyone is grumbling about the corrupt police--the corrupt government--the only solution --REFORM FIRST--- BUT with a sound government to control then and only then give the caring to the army boys, I would trust an army road check more than a police one---just saying--my take on it.
Short term measure only till the police are sorted and scanned.
I think there is too much corruption to fully cleanse. It will probably end being the lesser of 2 evils who takes charge.

Will be hilarious when the reforms are in place and the reds still win the election 5555

There's other example. I'm aware of about 5 students from well regarded Vietnamese universities being denied visas to take up exchange programs, one semester, at Thai universities (already approved for acceptance by the Thai unis.)
These are MBA students, all in good employment in Vietnam, all speak advanced English, all with good progress results so far in their studies, all with full sponsorships from their employers.
And with a refusal to give any details of why they were not approved.
If they were as clever as you make out why would they want to study in Thailand? Why not somewhere else challenging like Japan, china or Singapore?

I think all Thais brandishing nazi regalia should be identified and banned from entering Europe.

If I was there now I probably wouldn't mind too much tbh. Would mean I am spending less money drinking and more time on tourist activities during the day.
