  1. Nothing as far as I can tell but it may friend on how your account is set up. I live in the uk and use line here. When in Thailand I have a local sim and my old contacts remain. I do however have my account tied to my email address so that may be an option. Not sure what happens if it's tied to your SIM. Could be like whatsapp where the app asks you if you want to associate your new number with the app in which case I just select no.

  2.

So are tourists here for two weeks now meant to take their passports to the beach, trekking through the jungle or in a soapy massage??

Or a copy certified by immigration. And don't forget to find a jungle police while trekking since you're changing your residence constantly.

The immigration offices are going to get real cramped if all of this actually starts. The stock price for Double-A might skyrocket, though.

Can this be done when said tourist enters the country? If so I don't see the problem but I don't really want to be carrying around my passport everywhere.

  3. I would not worry at all and simply come visa exempt. I presume you fly out again within 30 days?

Correct. In total I am staying in the country for around 21 days.

Id be more worried about being rained upon on my visit,Merry christmas.laugh.png

Why would it be raining at that time of year? I've come here every year at the same time for the last 4 years and I haven't seen any rain at all bar the odd evening in Phuket.

  4. hello. I live in Angthong, just 2 km from Wat Muang. I thing the more easy is to come with small Van bus doing Bangkok Angthong, every hours from Victory moment (100 bath) taxi must know. From Angthong I can pickup you at Van bus station because no taxi at Angthong and bring you at Wat Muang. It Will be a pleasure for me and my thai wife

Are you in bkk for holidays? when do you plan to visit Muang?

If you are interested, sent me a mail at [email protected] or phone me at 0926864495

Thanks for the offer. Sent you a PM.

  5. I think some people here need to take a step back and stop with the generalisations that tourists wanting a chair and umbrella = idiot. I like to spend every other day sitting at the beach reading a book. The other days I'll usually be out and about doing some sort of sight seeing.

I don't mind sitting on the sand but I won't be able to stay for long being uncovered from the sun. Am I an idiot for that? Also with that method it will probably end up being even more busy shoulder to shoulder tourists on the beach.

How about a halfway house where we have deck chairs and umbrellas but the only folks allowed to sell them are some non mafia government crew? I don't see that as such a big ask.

I suspect moSt of those voting in favour of not reinstalling them are not tourists but rather grumpy expats who are usually grumpy about everything. Most tourists are not going to go onto the PG website and vote.

Anyway it will mean less money being spent at the beach so less money being spent in Phuket. What's the net effect if this is done for all beaches in Thailand? Yeah thought so.

Great videos thanks. There is a guy on YouTube who uploads a new timelapse from Patong tower every week. :-p

I would also like to know how to do this. Is it function that needs to be supported by the camera or can this be done using editing software?

Do you have the link for these videos?

Generally some cameras support timelapse videos natively. Then there are extra software kits, for example CHDK foro Canon pocket/bridge cameras http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK or Magic Lattern for Canon DSLR's http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Magic_Lantern_Firmware_Wiki whic add new functions and settings to the cameras. Timelapse being one of those.

I used the CHDK to make some timelapse videos, which I'm not going to link here after seeing the OP's far better quality and the amount of work he had to do to make the videos biggrin.png

Timelapse function will take photos for example every 1 second and then these photos need to be put together to create a video (on Linux using mencoder).

Here is 1 of the Patong tower ones.

I am a bit of a dummy when it comes to cameras so installing FW versions with extra features is something I tend to avoid. Does that invalidate the warranty? I know the Canon S120 has a similar feature which it calls 'star lapse' or something similar. It looks like timelapse but in all the demos it's used at night so no idea if it can be used in the daytime as well.

Does anyone know of any other point and shoot cameras that offer this functionality natively? I've just sold my Sony Nex 3N and wanted to get something more portable. Was looking at the Nikon S1 but it seems the body and lens both do not support any sort of IS which I find nuts.

  8. I would like to spend a day there seeing wat muang and the hell garden nearby. Are there any bus routes that would get me there or is a private taxi my best option?

According to google it's around 90mins away from Bangkok. I would say that's doable as a day trip. Anyone done this before and have any tips to share?

    Thanks

  9. I've been reading the various threads on people not being let in and wanted to give you an overview of my situation to see if I might face any issues.

So I'm a British citizen and live in the uk. I come to Thailand once a year and usually just use the visa exemption on arrival. I've got a tourist visa previously but otherwise my trips are usually less than 30 days.

I will be coming again in December and plan to use the visa exemption on arrival. I will be able to produce receipts as proof of hotels I've booked for the duration of my stay as well as internal flights (Bangkok to Phuket, phuket to samui, samui to Bangkok ect) and flight home from Bangkok.

The only problem is in Phuket I will be staying in a condo. The condo is advertised on a website however I have conversed privately with the owner over email so all I have are aome PayPal payments to a friend I am sharing the condo with. Will I have a problem do you think?

    Thanks
