  1. Keeping a home country identity involves keeping bank accounts: "Banks Are Closing Customer Accounts With Little Explanation." https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/08/your-money/bank-account-suspicious-activity.html
  2. The value of the drugs is calculated by the same team who come up with Tourism numbers.
  3. I'm sure doesn't apply here, but in the USA it's not simple if the person has been there for x amount of time, I think 30 days but it could be less. They cannot be removed without a court order, whether it be a relative, friend, house guest, ex gf or bf, etc.
  4. On this same general topic of keeping a home country identity, would appreciate if any of you could help me with input on this thread:

  6. Wasn't aware of this until I read your post so no thoughts yet relating to it.
  7. Respect should be reserved for things worthy of respect. Taking seriously nonsensical childish beliefs from a time when people didn't understand the most basic natural phenomena is not worthy of respect. They have a right to their beliefs, and I have the right to laugh at them. "I don't see anyone here mocking you for your non-belief...". If they want to mock me for not believing in burning bushes, talking donkeys, virgin births, zombies, etc., they are welcome to. "In the end, everyone is right... or wrong." Nonsense.
  8. Two Questions: 1) I may not be able to renew my USA Driver's License by the expiration date. I can't recall how it worked with previous expirations of my Driver's Licenses - does the bank auto request updated renewal info when the License is about to expire? (DL was always used as personal ID to open accounts); 2) Has anyone switched to a State ID Card after previously having a DL? If so, and if the State ID card has the same Profile info as the DL - Address/Phone/etc. - was it a simple transition or was it a hassle because Bank Accounts/Credit Cards treated it like when initially opening the account and want to again verify Address/Phone/Email etc.?
  9. Also forgot to mention - fairly good to excellent air. Hopefully they follow thru and reinstitute 90 Day Tourist Visas.
  10. Review it on tripadvisor.com and help fellow travellers. Make up a handle for your Username.
  11. What side effects are you guys getting from the BP medication?
  12. "There is no substantive evidence that Twain who died in 1910 made this remark. Twain first received credit many years later in 1970...". https://quoteinvestigator.com/2014/01/12/history-rhymes/?amp=1
  13. Terrible decision. Thailand was bouncing back with Tourism by easing entry and length of stay. Vietnam tightened to a 30 day non-extendable Visa and their tourism was doing a very poor recovery. So Thailand tightens up. "If it ain't broke - let's break it". This in the midst of worldwide negative pr due to their unhealthy air. Meanwhile Vietnam is now considering loosening up and offering a 90 Day Tourist Visa. What did Thailand gain by tightening up?
  14. "So it would be best instead of risking your old Re-Entry Permit not being accepted, to simply buy a new one when you apply for your 1-year extension of stay." Yes, agree 100%, and will do so. Still in Thailand - just wanted to make sure no hassles returning. expat_4_life - "I would suggest thinking about it like this: There is only the "current" extension of stay, you're permitted to stay until a specific date. You don't have new and old extensions, at any given point in time you have your current permission to stay date, that's it." Got it now. Initially was misunderstanding how it is done. Thanks to all for explaining.
  15. "You apply early for your annual extension (you can do it from 30 to 45 days before the current Permit to stay for your Visa/extensions expires) - And you receive a new Permit to stay valid for 1 year. In that case your new Permit to stay will make the older one (which might have still a month validity) obsolete." Would like to make sure I understand this: E.g., I have had an annual Extension expiring May 15, 2023. Today I get a renewal Extension expiring May 15, 2024 - i.e. it runs from May 16, 2023 to May 15, 2024. So at this point even though the current extension technically does not expire until May 15, 2023 in 45 days, and the new extension therefore technically begins when the current one ends on May 16, 2023 - in actuality the current one became obsolete once the new one was issued. I.e., the new one takes over from the day it is issued. Correct?
  16. Hopefully Vietnam approves a 90 day Tourist Visa by next February...
  17. And the new Annual Extension which is already completed and approved is forfeited? (The new Extension took effect while out of Thailand, but re-entry permit expired with the expiration of the Extension which was in effect when departed). What if a new reentry is purchased at the same time the new Extension of Stay is purchased? Si it would mean exiting Thailand while the current Extension is in effect, that one expires and the New Extension of Stay begins while out of Thailand, a new Re-entry permit has been purchased at the same time the new Extension was purchased - and then one reenters under the new Extension using the new Reentry stamp. Does that work?
