  1. Hello all.

I'm looking at buying a condominium in CM and have noticed that these two complexs have a number of listings. I'm hoping that if anyone has lived/stayed in either of these buildings they can tell me of there experience and if there is anything i should be aware of before buying?

    With much thanks in advance.

  2. I've met a few ex special forces guys as well who i know were telling the truth. There seems to be a few reasons why there's an abnormally high amount of retired services guys here, but i'll leave that for another time. I'm sure there's multiple threads about that subject in the TV annals.

    Back on topic:

I was out late last night with the gf and we were both suprised at the lack of life about the place. CM was a ghost town from what we saw. It got us talking about the future of CM, and what impact it will have on our lives if what we believe is a large portion of the tourist market stops coming here. It's all good to become the temple/trekking capital of Thailand, but these guys still like to unwind at the end of the day. With Laos & Myanmar competing for the same dollar i can't see the CM tourist business coming out in a better position if these proposed changes go ahead.

  3. Yes your friend will have no problems with that plan. The only hitch might be that he can only get two tourist visa's instead of three, which would take his visit down to six months before he'd have to go to another country (Laos, Cambodia are ok) to obtain another tourist visa if he wanted to stay on here in Thailand. A 30,000 baht budget is more then ok, as long as he doesn't eat solely western food and drink in the bars everyday.

  4. Yes your Thai bank should be able to handle this rather painlessly. SCB uses SWIFT, not sure about the others. As for fees, i don't know about here, but to send from Australia to Thailand is A$30, so maybe prepare yourself for a 900 baht fee and you can feel rather pleased if it's any less.

  5. I can recommend Backstreet Books which is in the soi on Thapae road closest to the Thapae gate. Same buy-back policies as the others. Wide variety of material. Well organised and friendly staff. I had an unpleasant customer experience with Gecko and will not be giving them my business again.

  6. Depends on the intersection. Some you can and some you can't. Look for a little Thai sign (no english) just before the lights. Some allow turning while others say you can't and mention a fine.

will look out for that then, after ive looked out for the 'fuzz'

It's a rather small sign, white background with black Thai lettering........easy to miss if you're unaware of it.

You can see one as u approach the intersection by Pantip plaza from Changklan Rd, you are not allowed to turn left on to Sridonchai Rd at red.

Cheers mate, that's near me. I'll go have a look

  7. Yeah, but you can't do proper mixing in headphones.

And noise eliminates the possibility of clean recording.

After talking with some others, I'm wondering about moobahn.

Mate, if you're serious about your mixing and are talking about using studio monitors etc then grabbing a place in a moobahn is the way to go. You can mix away in peace (and volume).

  8. Being a musician and sometime studio man myself, my advice to you would be to rent a house in a moobahn, as sugested above. The new security we have at ours is very good, keeping i.d. cards/passports etc for everyone that goes in and out. Just take the usual precautions at your home as you would in your own country.

Today i looked at a pretty good rehearsal room with gear for 140 baht an hour. This would be a good option but i suspect you would prefer to have your own gear, set up and able to use 24 hours a day at your own convenience, as i would.

In terms of musicians, they/we are everywhere. Not hard to find, but if you'd like to hit the ground running send me a pm and i'll point you in a few directions.

  9. Hello. I am looking to hire a digital video camera for a day and possibly a microphone/field microphone as well. Does anyone know of any places around Chiang Mai that provides this service? Much thanks.
