Tourist police? I had a good experience with them once with a lost wallet.

My 2 cents, as you have already discovered, is that using cheap paint is a disaster in the making. So not worth it.
The brand that i use is TOA. It's not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but suits for most purposes. It comes in a wide variety of colours and can be used for a number of different purposes. If you're really determined to drop top dollar then you could go with Dulux or one of the other imports.
As for which store to purchase from, it depends on your location. I think it's best to find somewhere close to you as you may end up making multiple trips. If you have seen one of those places near you with the big TOA sign then they'd be as good as any. They're specialty is paint sales and are helpful and well priced.
As with most hardware/housing material etc retail experiences here, don't expect to encounter too much spoken English.

One of my favorites in on Kunpang Din Road very close to Loi Kroh Road. There is a grill on the street in front of a small shop that is usually crowded with Thai customers. BQ chicken wings with sticky rice and a somtum salad is what I always have there.
I'm going to try to find this one, Its very close to my business, do you happen to know if they are open around 11pm?
Yup that place is a definite daytime only. Best to avoid between 12 and 1 as it is always full at these times. Good food to be had there.

Also i recall this subject being raised a while back. Perhaps you could try the search function. Good luck!

I always say to people to aim for a start price for everything of 30,000 baht. From there it varies on your lifestyle choices amongst other things.

I think the musical content needs to be banned first and foremost!
Truly disturbing...

Something that i've enjoyed of late is vodka with ginger ale, with a squeeze of fresh lime. Quite refreshing.

Ya there was big Bangkok brass in town for a few days.
Agree with Winnie, lock-ins can be fun!

The GF informed me once that some of the sellers are actually using cheap store bought honey with a piece of honeycomb thrown in to up the price. Not wanting to paint all sellers with the same brush. Buyer beware etc.

The police.
(Not kidding; you can arrange their services for a fee, either on duty in uniform or off.)
Of course depending on what you have in mind.
x 2. All in all the best service to use if in Thailand.

The cheap and relatively easy way to get from Vientiane City to Udon Thani Airport.
Thai Consulate Vientiane-->Vientiane Bus Station = 15,000 Kip (Tuk Tuk 10 minutes)
Vientiane Bus Station-->Udon Thani Bus Station = 22,000 Kip (Bus 2 hours)
Udon Thani Bus Station-->Udon Thani Airport = 100 Baht (Motorcycle Taxi 10 minutes).
FYI 100 Baht = 25,000 Kip approx.
I've got the double entry visa, if I go through the border on a local service bus what do I have to do? Disembark and go to immigration? Or does someone board the bus to check the passports?
Yes you disembark at immigration (with everyone else) which is right where the bus parks. The same bus will stay with you all the way and ensure that you are not left behind!

Laos visa on arrival for Australians = $30 US as of yesterday.

Yes i saw it out for a stroll the other night, doing some fundraising for it's handlers. Glad to hear it might be heading to a better place.
-
Yes i did it a bit over a month ago. It is as accurately described above. I would recommend it once or twice a year, or if you have visitors and/or friends in town. My only minor gripe is the length of the actual trip on the water. I feel the experience would be improved if they set off about 20 minutes earlier. Worth doing once for sure.

Ok, so back to the original topic if we may...
I've paid a visit to Success Pizza and can now share my thoughts:
Environment: It's definitely more a Thai pizza place than an Italian pizza place, or an American pizza place; price accordingly. The place has a more authentic family feel i.e. Thai Mum & Dad with the kids then most other venues i've been to. Even with the constant cars whizzing by, an open air place with a view of the river pretty much wins over anything else for mine. The service was friendly, non obtrusive and efficient.
The Food: The pizza i had was a thin crust, sao like as described previously, with a uninspiring tasting base and toppings with potential, but not quite delivering. My GF had the chicken breast wrapped in ham (supposedly bacon) with a creamy white wine (read carbonara) sauce. The pizza i would rate as average, and below par if you have tried pizza in many different parts of the world. The dish my GF had had a lot more flavour, and as such was the better dish.
Verdict: I would dine here again with Thai's, but would not go out of my way to visit again on my own. If i do return i will most likely order a pasta dish or something else from their adequate menu.
I rate my dining out preferences in the following order: 1. Taste. 2. Ambiance. 3. Value. 4. Quantity.
Therefore my current Chiang Mai pizza ratings based on personal experience are as follows:
1. Porcini
2. Dukes
3. Sucess
4. Billy's
5. Mike's on Loi Kroh
Is there a Mikes on Loi Kroh other than the Hamburger stand?
I think it's called Mike's Italian, or something similar... About a 1/3 of the way down from the moat. It use to be one shop size and was expended in to two a few months ago maybe...

Yet you rate their pizza as high as number three in CM.
I didn't read anything positive about it in your post.
BTW I had pizza at Billy's....never again!
Based on the places that i've visited, they get to number 3 via ambiance and value, not on pizza!

Number 1 on your list is Porcini. Is that a typo of Puccini?Ok, so back to the original topic if we may...

I've seen something like your looking for down at Warorot Market, in one of the laneways that leads off Thapae Road. Sorry i can't be more descriptive, but seeing as you've just moved here you should head down to Warorot anyway where a world of wonder awaits!

HIV+ testing in Chiang Mai
in Chiang Mai

There's' a Red Cross down near Warrarot Market / The American Embassy. They test for 3 or 4 STD's and it's a couple of hundred baht with results returned in a few days, or you can pay a bit extra and get the result in a few hours.
Also Rajajev Hospital near the Holiday Inn does a complete STD test for around the 1,000 Baht mark.
