  1. Villa Market. THB 899. So 5 litres means 180 baht a litre.

Its pretty vile but so is all wines imported with fruit juice added to avoid tax.For diabetics its full of sugar.

By the way its a "cask" not a "box" invented in Australia for selling cheap wine but now accepted by wine snobs and you can get some really good wines in a cask but not in Thailand.Decent wine in a bottle is 100% taxed.

Thailand could have a great wine industry, they need OS experts to come in and show them how to make it but "loss of face " seems to be a problem.

One producer of fruit wine in the north said to me "we know what we are doing " Sorry you don't

They do have some winemakers here from overseas or who have studied overseas

Thailands climate is a bit hot for making great wines

  2. It's not wine. They import the fruit juice so they can avoid the taxes and then turn it into an "alcoholic" beverage here. It's horrible stuff. Gives me a massive hangover. But then again, so does real red wine! LOL

Are you sure with that fruit wine?

Because as no fruit is mentioned I would assume the fruit is grape. It might be just a language/law issue as every wine is "fruit wine"?

If they would add, say blueberry juice, they would have to label the blueberry....Beside that grape is already the cheapest thing you can get, any other fruit juice would be more expensive.

If you didn't read the link that craigt3365 attached

Fruit wine has an orange tax sticker on it. And it does say in very small writing on the back label, Fruit Wine

Unaltered wine has a blue sticker over the cap

I've tried the Mar Sol wines, not bad either

  3. Actually, the Thai press has been reporting consistently that the government says it was a pipe bomb (homemade) containing TNT (not C4). Try to inform yourself better before posting.

Pipe bomb big enough to make a blast like that would be the size of the sewage mains.

    That's military grade explosives.

    TNT is a military explosive...

TNT is also an explosive for rock blasting. Saw what US$20 million can do too.

  4. Experts in IEDs might be able to clear something up for me. This was a big explosion supposedly caused by a pipe bomb. Doing a quick search of Youtube for pipe bombs leads me to believe that to cause an explosion that big and create the kind of casualties, you'd need an awfully big pipe, or a heck of a lot of small ones synched together - which all adds up to something very hefty in the backpack. Take a look at the pix and the vids - while yellow shirt's backpack was large, it does not look like it's being weighed down by anything too heavy - watch as he takes it off, it seems very light.

I might be on the wrong track here, but it's still an interesting point to consider, among many interesting points.

The backpack slipped off pretty easy which normally means it has a bit of weight in it.

  5. Speaking over the telephone, he gave a different account, saying he did not know how his long-lost handgun was found in his carry-on luggage. "I admit to my mistake but I did not intend to bring it to Japan or hide it from detection," he said.

SO IT SEEMS IT IS A GUN HE REPORTED LOST BEFORE !! something very fishy here....!!! the Thai authority's should check if this long lost gun has been used in some crimes before.!!!

These guys are so used to blatantly disregard the law in there own country and always get away with it, that they try to do the same in other country's too.....

  6. Look at it, my letter to the Singha Brewery. Forget Chang, but the Singha and Leo is quite nice, when delivered fresh.

Singha makes an advertisement for L. A. , but here in the South of Thailand, in Hat Yai, they, the SINGHA BEER BREWERY, is not able to send down fresh beer. What do you think dear beer connoisseur? We here in the South receive beer, which has been sitting in the sun for two weeks or more with temperatures of 30 degrees centigrade. The beer is virtually dead. They, the SINGHA BREWERY, cannot manage, until today, that the beer is being sent right after the filling down to Hat Yai, just to preserve the fine bubbles and the sweetness of the beer. Beer has to be stored in a cold and dark place. When do I get this into your skulls? I love Singha Beer and also LEO, but I want fresh beer even here in the South. How come, that they can send satellites into space, but you are unable to send some fresh beer to Hat Yai. Thai business as usual, mai pen rai? Shift your butt, I buy me beer directly off the truck at Muang Panich in Hat Yai, and still get old "piss" as the brits would name it. Do something!!!!

Singha Beer Hi Walter, thank you very much for your feedback. We, on behalf of the company, would like to apologize sincerely for the inconvenience and difficulty with the sales service in Hat Yai. We are aware that the Southern sales division has just been replaced and hence the service you have experienced may not have been extended well enough. We have raised this issue to the Southern team and will ensure that the problems youve been encountering will be taken into action and resolved as soon as possible.

Could you please give us some information about the name of your outlet, address/location and contact number, and we will put the matter in professional hands. Thank you and have a good day

Hopefully they are true to their word...

  7. I saw today that Heineken is reducing its standard bottle size from 330 ml to 325 ml and other Thai Brewers are doing the same....

And will they also reduce the price too..!!!

    I don't think so..!!!

Why would they? New tax, keep the price the same requires a slightly smaller bottle. Stop blaming beer companies. If you are that concerned about it talk to government.

I was just being cynical, but maybe u didn't notice the ..!!!

Anyway it's just the usual corporate greed..!!!

  8. Up here north of Chiang Mai we have had the wettest summer I remember in eight years. Last two years we had to water the lawn like crazy, but this year we broke out the hose about four times. Today, the Mae Taeng River is running very, very high from the rains over the past few days. No shortage of water up here!

I thought summer in the northern hemisphere started yesterday. Obviously it's bucketed down since then.............
