  1. AN was pretty ordinary to be honest.

Apart from the news and current affairs it was quite dated.

Having said that, I will miss the AFL broadcasts.

I don't have fast enough (aircard) internet to stream so I hope

    another broadcaster picks it up.

I loved Australia channel when I could get it. Beats the hell out of Thai Television! My current condo in Bangkok only has True cable which does not have AFL so what's the point!

For all the AFL lovers it looks like you have to watch it at a local bar if you are lucky.

I subscribe to the official AFL website for unlimited live AFL plus all the replays. However it is pricy at $25 US per month. Bad news is that it is not HD and has no buffering, so the picture can be fairly ordinary!

U can watch the footy on www.wiziwig for free

  2. According to THIS it is made with (real) grapes - nothing to do pineapples !

Do you actually believe THIS is the same wine the OP is talking about? How could you possible know?

On both the Wine Connection & Vivino websites, it says that the Cellar Blend Cool White "is fruit driven".

So that is very much open for interpretation.

Only rates 2.0 stars, so you only get what u pay for.

Will have to read the label when i see a bottle of it next time.

  3. Having just returned from Australia and sampling some excellent wines at half the price we pay here (because of import tax) I was loathe to try some.

According to the so called free trade agreement between thailand and australia the tax is supposed to be minimal.eg 5 percent

According to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website:

    "

    Wine, beer and spirits
    • Thailand immediately reduced its previous 54% tariffs on wine to 40%, and will phase the tariff to zero in 2015.
    • For beer and spirits, Thailand immediately reduced its previous tariffs of 60% to 30%, before phasing to zero in 2010.

Unfortunately that's the import tariff, not the excise tax which the greedy govt officials are using to help fund the failed rice subsidy scheme.

  4. I used to empty a few "The Pump" bottles a week also. It is Australian bottled so that gives me some sort of confidence. Contacted the exporters and they will negociate with the importers. To them, going from 285 to 660 Baht in a few months is not normal as their price did not increase. So let's hope it might go down soon.

Do you honestly believe that the exporter is going to contact the importer and negotiate a price reduction?

Suffice to say that unless the exporter's got their heads around the Thai excise tax system they'll be content to be told that the excise tax increase is causing the prices to spike.

Further, unless you know for a fact that the importer is directly responsible for the price spike, you've got no idea where the spike's coming from. So the importer goes back to the exporters query with a 'not my fault' response...

And in all honesty unless you personally know the exporter, I'd doubt the exporter's going to entertain lines of questioning regarding their importer.

Whilst the price spike is seemingly high, it's not unusual, I've seen a locally produced wine (100% grape content) spike by a similar amount. Which has seen them lose market amongst the industry and they're hiding behind the guise that the excise tax increase is responsible, which goes against the spirit of the increase. The Excise Department / Finance Ministry claimed it was changing the tax to make locally produced product more competitive..

    Go figure..

The Govt aren't going to reduce the tax on a luxury item seeing us "rich" people will help support / subsidize the failed rice scheme.

A mate who was importing his family's wine here has shut down due to the ridiculous tax system.

    So it's buyer beware.

Cheers & read that label carefully next time your buying

  5. If the area gets plenty of sun, Nua noi is fine. If it's a shady area, then Malay grass is better. Malay grows best when grown on soil only, no need for sand unless topdressing to make it smooth. Nua noi can grow in soil & sand.

  6. I have flown the shuttle between CNX DMK on a couple of occasions and they are OK. Seems to me the seats are a bit tighter than in Nok Air or Air Asia but other than that it is about the same. Thai Lion Air is good about giving out exit row seats without charging extra and if I can get a seat in that row then I have no problems with seating.

I have tried to pay for the tickets via credit card each time I booked on line but it never seems to work. Once I had to go to a travel kiosk in Tesco and pay 200 baht for them to issue me the ticket and the other time I drove to the airport and paid the fee at the Lion Air ticket window which saved the 200 baht service fee. My credit card is a US based one and that may have been the problem with using it online.

Most morning I can get a ticket from CNX to DMK for around 850 baht which is a good price. Afternoon returns tend to be a bit more.

Have flown them many times. Good value

Being 6ft i always ask for an exit row seat & have always got one. No problems for leg room

They overweight charges are expensive so make sure no more than 15kg

Have recommended them to many. Not a rip off like AA & Nok

  7. Because Dtac also doubles packages Ais starts to feel like shxt. I left them because AIS is getting worst and worst, Dtac is getting better.

Have been on this AIS package for years & ok

But you are only getting it for 3 months

I normally just use up my 4GB in the month but speed is still ok after going over the limit

Might have to suss out the others if they are better

But also depends on reception / coverage too

As i travel a bit, need good coverage for my USB stick

  8. The family chose to go to the press and make his "disappearance" public. The Australian press then wrote a rather suggestive article pointing out that he was the second Thai expat to go "missing" and suggesting that their might be foul things afoot in Thailand. This spurred the Thai police to act, they found him pretty darn quickly over in Cambodia.

The family has now released another public statement offering a totally farfetched explanation for his disappearance, completely lacking in any detail whatsoever, like whether this supposed motor vehicle accident happened in Cambodia or Thailand. It makes no sense that he would be involved in a motor vehicle accident in Thailand and then go home, get his passport, without being seen by his wife, buy a bus or plane ticket, and then cross the border into Cambodia and remain there for months. Or did he secretly go to Cambodia without telling his wife he was leaving the country and claims he supposedly got into an amnesia-causing accident there after sneaking away from his wife?

If you fake your disappearance and then offer a very public and rather ludicrous explanation for it, you should be prepared that people may want to discuss it. Fake amnesia claims by wayward husbands also do a disservice to real sufferers from amnesia and they strain limited government resources of law enforcement agencies that then have to waste their time finding people when their families claim they are missing and suggest foul play.

Yeah it's a bit dodgy how he turns up in another country. The day he ventured out to Mor Chit, was he carrying his passport with him???

Most long term expats here never carry their passport on them.

  9. Ok read most of the threads on this....

Use UREA,(available everywhere) not too much, put the granules on the area, then hose in lightly....wait a couple of days then flood the area with water.

If unsuccessful put Urea again and don't hose in for a week.....The grass will survive long enough to kill that pest of a weed.

What sort of grass is your lawn???

The above method will work ok on zoysia or bermuda (couch)

If it's Malaysia grass, then not so good.

You can use Atrazine as a pre & post emergent for the weed & its seeds in zoysia & bermuda. Cannot on Malaysia grass.

It comes in a 1kg box

Mix it in a 15 litre back pack sprayer & apply that way. Get someone to translate the rate for you. It's fairly strong so be careful. You would need 50gms in 15 litres water to spray 275m2

Fertilize the grass before hand so it is strong & will recover quickly from the spraying

You can buy Atrazine at local chemi shops for about B400 / kg box

  10. The shit nearly hit the fan on that one then ... was it bound for one of the protest sites I wonder? wink.png

Why would protesters send it to themselves......They just cannot leave the airport alone can they...it is just such a juicy target to ratchet up the mayhem they need so badly....And in some way one cannot blame them....They got away with messing around at the airport last time......It worked last time and now....Today they got photo's and media attention...

Well, I was being somewhat sarcastic when I mentioned "protests" ... are you suggesting it was something to do with the anti-Govt protestors themselves? To what purpose?

If indeed it was going to Cambodia, seeing as they import pretty much everything, why would it be unusual?

Import one bag!... I assume coffee1.gif you are joking

If you had of bothered to read some of the Media articles posted above, you would have read that it was a sample for an exhibition.

To many <deleted> don't bother to read anything before posting a post....

  11. The amount stolen is equal to only around two 500 Euro Notes. Maybe he felt carrying it was safer than leaving it in his hotel room.

Yet, being anywhere drunk and elderly in the middle of the night walking alone can find you mugged almost anywhere in the world.

The euro is only 45 to 1, so check your calculations again

  12. I can't see that you are being blackmailed, drrobert. The lady in question has requested you settle compensation for killing her dog.

There's half a dozen soi dogs here and nobody advertises ownership, but if I killed one then I would expect to be informed pretty sharpish.

Why don't you settle and have done with it.

Seeing the owner doesn't control her dog which attacks people.

This is a case of som nom nar.

B20,000 for a soi dog that runs rampant. I don't think so. Pure & utter blackmail & bulls--t.

U better bugger off back to Brizzy.

  13. When I am reading the majority of these posts I am wondering why all these Starbucks outlets - especially in the tourist ghetto zone of lower Sukhumvit - with their oh so terrible, tastes-like-crap, grossly over-prized product always seem to brim with westerners.

On the other hand, I could almost bet that Mr. Stylebung's street stall despite his wonderful, terrific, tasty, excellent, outstanding, extremely cheap and what not coffee has never had the pleasure of welcoming any westerner, save for a few tourists who stopped to shoot a picture of his logo EXACTLY BECAUSE it very closely resembled Starbucks'.

There is absolutely no doubt that the previous logo AND its supposedly "amended" version were and are blatant rip-offs of the Starbucks logo. Anyone who cannot see this surely must be blind.

If this story had never materialized, but I had shown you a photograph of Mr. Stylebung's logo and asked you which international brand it resembled, I am very sure that 99.99 % of you guys would not have hesitated a second and answered "Starbucks".

They're there for the homesick yanks or the local wannabes who like to be seen in over priced western businesses.
