  1. Does anyone have an idea of how much house prices, land prices are rising? Don't really need to buy now if I don't have to, doubt I'd get a :o true answer from an estate agent. Thanks for the reply to my earlier querie, I'll buy the land in the wifes name.

Considering the Thai government has in recent months underlined the clear edict that Farang cannot legally own land (or incite Thais to assist him in effectively doing so), the concept of dramatic western style increase in land prices is beyond me. In fact it would seem to me to indicate a less robust land/house market if the many farangs who bought into this market in recent years finally get the message.

    What can be clearer?

But then I am not a Real Estate agent. :D

  2. Hi,

My friend has a problem with his computer so we are looking for someone to come to his house to fix it. I've done a search and found someone who posted about this before but it was so long ago I don't know whether I'll get an answer to the email I sent him. Instead of just waiting around I was wondering if anyone knows someone they can recommend. The problem seems to be that when windows is opening all the colours are out of order or mixed up. We neither have any idea what the problem can be so we'd much rather have a qualified person take a look. I know there are people who do computer repairs at home, just need a number. Thanks. :D:D

Is it a standard crt monitor or an LCD monitor? and if its a crt type are there like patches of colour over the screen?

It's a LCD monitor ( Sony ) basically, if you look at the screen when it has words on it eg. safe start page, working from left to right, every other vertical line of letters are missing. I suppose the same when showing the desktop in colour but then it looks like some horizontal lines are also missing. I hope you can understand that? Sometimes after startup and trying to get to safe mode, a page of letters appears and you cannot exit without cutting the power.

The problem first happened last week, my friend had been in UK for a while so the computer had not been started. We switched on and logged on to internet ( very slow Loxinfo dial up ) The yellow shield came up for XP updates, so we left the machine updating while we had a cuppa tea. When we went to see the progress, the screen was blank as in power down mode but when I touched the mouse to bring it back up, nothing happened. Nothing would bring the screen to life, not even Ctrl-Alt-Del. So we turned off the power, gave it a few seconds, then turned it on again. This is when the problem I have detailed above started. Again we switched off the power. A hour or so later we tried once more and it seemed to start no problem. As it was getting late and my friend didn't want to use the comp. we closed down normally. Then yesterday from first power up-Problem!

Someone as sent me the number for an American guy who does computer repairs so we'll probably try him. Thanks anyway, Pete.

You could unplug the machine remove the video card and reseat it, maybe leaving it has caused some corrosion that is stopping it working properly.

I too have used Kilin he is good but never really seems like he wants to turn out! :o

  3. It seems to me to be slightly contradictory that 'sensitive Thai' Ladyboys with huge tits play volleyball on Chaweng Beach topless with pride , I wonder if this offends the Thai people that incidentally are actually renowned for their tolerance rather than their prudishness (if things like the commonly accepted ladyboy culture, for example, in Thailand requires tolerance ).

Thai people are also highly motivated by money and I am sure any poll amongst Thai people that will be found on Chaweng Beach and the other big beaches, asking whether they would like another 50 topless farangs to massage or not, would be a no brainer.

The sensible answer to your question in my opinion would be, no problem to lay in your deck chair or sunbed topless and sunbathe, but in respect to the local environment that theoretically does have a problem with toplessness it may be polite not to go walking up and down the beach, but plenty of people do, including people of Thai nationality. :o

  4. I can open Yahoo.com BUT the “My mail” link will freeze my cellphone and am then forced to exit the web :o . I can open any other web site.

Am I missing something? I thought Yahoo mail wqs free

I am using a Nokia N80 and using CS LOXINFO :D

Yahoo mail has been running a beta version and when logging on ordinarily it sometimes says something like 'If you are having problems logging on revert to old version'. There is also a button where you can go straight to old version without attempting beta version, on subsequent logins.

Maybe your problem is linked to this Beta version. :D

  5. Anyone interested in Home swap 24th to 29th December, We have 1 bed condo floor 6 , Soi 7 Beach Rd Jomtein , has internet, cable Tv etc (we live there!) and Suzuki jeep.

Consider any offers for a swap, must include car if outside Chiang Mai city.

    Ideas? :o

  6. Fisherd3, if you read that thread, it clearly states that the Samui beer is from the 4th and sofar most recent import to Thailand and doesn't have the old beer in it.

Thumbs up to BeerLao and their importers who really seem to care.

Facts are facts, dream on, by the way I don't care i just dispense facts! i.e. Lao beer sold in Pattaya was stated to be well out of use by period, they do it there they can do it anywhere, maybe you guys got lucky!!! or maybe you live in the dream world that is Samuii!!!! :o

  7. It took a while, but at last Beer Lao made it into Thailand and also on to Samui and Koh Tao.

There's plenty of watering holes who have this outstanding beer on offer, probably at similar prices as you would pay for your Heineken.

In my opinion this is one of the best beers around in SE Asia and you should definately try it. Excellent quality beer and rumour has it it was never allowed into Thailand since than the Thais would figure out what kind of crappy beer they've been served all the time. :D

On the Pattaya boards there is alot of talk about the beer being older than it should be, check the bottling dates before purchase! :o

  8. The fare from the main to/from Bangkok bus station is 30bht, every other fare is the same as any normal baht bus fare, as outlined above 10bht farang, 5 bht Thai.

Baht bus drivers sometimes argue the toss, I just tell them to call the police.

  9. Hi all.

I'm hoping to connect to Talk Talk for their phone and internet package but have been told that I will need a BT line.

However if I sign up with BT I guess that I'm going to be tied into a contract. I have had differing reports from how long the contract will be. I also guess that I can buy myself out of a contract with BT but wouldn't they cut the line off so that no one can use it.

Also when I have phoned Talk talk on two occasions they have sais that I will have a 3 month contract and other times they have said that there is no contract. The same when I have phoned Bt...no one seems to be able to give me a straight answer.

Any ideas...how have you changed over from cable to talktalk???

When you sign up with Talk talk they take over the Bt Line that costs you about GBP18, this is the same amount you would have to pay if you relinquished a BT line. I am pretty sure you are signed into Talk talk for a few months more than 3, but I guess they could have offers on that.

Whatever happens in my opinion you basically need a BT line , what is the alternative NTL? forget them they do not answer phone and even tell you you will have to wait in excess of 10 mins whilst paying for call when their service has failed. BT calls to service are free! (even if you do end up talking to India where they can't even order you any mail outs from!! (this is the 1st world Britain of today).

Most any internet offer requires a BT line if not tied into some cowboys like NTL, where you are left with no choice.

Talk Talk seem to me to be one of those companies like NTL that sell cheaper than they can provide any service on, and I have read on some other board that it takes a long time to actually get service too.

I gleaned all this from a walk round Southampton including 2 talk talk shops and hope it is an accurate recollection. :o

  10. 10% deposit and hand over balance at land office on transfer. You need a reasonable lawyer in Pattaya PM me. and remember to transfer the whole amount to your bank account from outside Thailand, and state on Swift transfer 'To purchase condominium' and when you go to draw it out to pay tell them you want the form that conforms you sent the money in, used to be called a 'TOR TOR 3' now called something like 'international currency transfer confirmation'. This a) enables you to put the condo in your name (subject to ownership quota in condo ) and if you at some stage want to export the money again enables you to do it. (So they say!). It is all reasonably painless when you do it right. If the amount is under US$20k (equivilant) you cannot get above form and request a letter confirming transfer instead.

  11. Canon is the way to go they have a couple of A4 size machines very thin would easily fit is average laptop bag about 3000bht from ITcity have two resolutions the better is more expenive than lesser. BJC 80 mentioned above another option, but surely there must be a limit to the convenience/quality trade off personally I would look at the thin dedicated scanner. :o

  12. Dr Aree at PIH Soi 4 2nd road (nearly opposite Big C festival, is a great dentist, she will hand the root canal over to a root canal specialist, price 3000bht a root (most people have 3 some 4), and about 10,000 bht for a crown to go on top, I have had my root done and now await funds to complete the job. Didn't feel a thing.

If you go to PIH insist on Dr Aree. :o
