  1. one of Thailand's well thought out strategic marketing strategies

Thailand has a strategic marketing strategy? Did not know that. Oh! You are being sarcastic, as in, "I thought they spent the last several thousand years here waiting for a handful of foreigners to build military bases, turn farm girls to prostitution and treat the Kingdom like a personal toilet."

Sorry the "strategy" does not suit you! Enjoy the flight home!

Dont say that to the foreigner, Farang! Pass the word to the Tourism Department and the police. They profit from it the most and some of them make it into politics.... Its a dog eat dog world :)

  2. Solve the chronic traffic problems ... by dressing properly ...

:) Sometimes I wonder if Thaivisa words their reports to get a response... :) Anyway thanks to Thaivisa that we can have a platform to interact. Yes... changing a dress code will not solve the problems. More to the point would be the problem with helmets on motorbikes and underage riders and drivers. Good move Police...but still long way to go!

  3. Sad, what a waste of a successful life. May she rest in peace.

Thats true it is a waste of life. Thais do not believe in Life. They are scared dead of spirits and live like the walking dead. Take a Thai driving license.... they only expect you to hold breaks and judge distances..... the rest of the driving school is for the "dogs" they have no clue to markings on the road. Signals and the use of mirrors. They havent a clue of speed. The law is not implemented. Police act as referees and charity fund raisers during lunch hours, closing their eyes to all the fiasco on the road. I would suggest that the govt discourage foreigners from driving here in Thailand!..... and the tourist dept to encourage them to take the bus or train. The rest of what moves on the road on two wheels do so as a death trap or a Jaba transport. NO LIGHTS, NO HELMETS, NO BRAINs-really, riding a bike with child in front, holding the handle bar with one hand and a phone in the left. If that is considered experienced driver. NO CONTROL. - AMAZING THAILAND. I have constantly written here. Why dont the police stand at their post and traffic lights at the morning rush hour before school starts. Most of the school children are underage riders with no helmets. THE NEXT GENERATION OF THAILAND.

The best I have heard is - if the farang was not here there would be no accidents!!! Oh Sure! I believe that... the road would be full of drifters and circus artist and the vehicles lite up like a christmas tree.

If you want to rant, at least be factually accurate. The Aussie couple ran into the sidecar. Illegally parked or not, if one is NOT driving under the influence of alcohol, and NOT speeding, one WOULD NOT run into a parked vehicle.

    Don't blame Thais for everything.

Sure I do not blame Thais.... I blame what is permitted in the system. Lets look at some facts. Did the side car have lights, where was it parked and how. facing traffic...then you would have the side car on the wrong side right? Why does not the news give any direct reference. So underlying again - Thais are not to be blamed.... but those who claim to be so and are blind by the system. :) apologies if it sounds like a rant.

  4. I'd like to know if they ever followed up with the salaeng that may or may not have been parked illegally that was struck. Quite often these illegal vehicles don't have sufficient lighting, if they have lighting at all.

Such senseless loss of life could be avoided if only Phuket officials practiced safety process applied in other major holiday destinations around the world. Clearly Phuket officials need to ensure police enforce safety standards through vehicle compliance and operator usage. Unsafe, unregistered vehicles are driven by food vendors anywhere anytime and parked anywhere. If Phuket officials are not prepared to adopt the sane safety standards which are applied elsewhere and certainly in BKK they should at least conduct a campaign at Phuket airport advising tourists of the dangers and death statistics associated with motor bike accidents in Phuket and therefore recommend that tourists consider using taxis or car hire. The problem lies with Phuket officials and not with the police, public or tourists.

YES I believe the Tourism Department should discourage foreigners from driving in Thailand... The roads are full of clowns, trapeze artists and circus people. - Amazing Thailand! The police or officials blind folded or slow in acting. These side cars are death traps.

  6. What are defamation laws in Thailand other than Lese Majeste for the common man. Make that the common rich man. Ridiculous to consider reform of one and not the other.

There may be an immediate exective decree signed entitled "Do you know who I am" decree with rules against speaking the truth about any politician of the current ruling party.

Defamation of character! Alcoholics go for meetings, drunks go to parties!!! :) a drunk will never confess he is an alcoholic.... I like his claim that he was on medication. I wonder if the Police would buy that from me if I swayed and had to be propped. Good luck to your lawyers mate... give them the same medicine.

  7. Very observant some people ,The floods , they will return next year ,the next year after that and so forth and so forth, depending on the amount of rain up in northern Thai and beyond. yawn ho humm...and once again thehit-the-fan.gif

Hmmmm How many times does an average person in Thailand need to hear himself? Four times or forty four times four..... thats how long it will take for this topic to sink into their brain.

  8. Did anyone else find it strange that the Bangladeshis are carrying around $1000 USD in their pocket?

Not sure I understand what you are asking. that someone from Bangladesh has that much money or, the fact he is holding USD. If he memorized the license plate, he obviously has been in Thailand long enough to read the language so it can be assumed that he has some sort of business here. The fact that it's USD would make sense as USD is hard currency, unlike Bangladesh taka. 15 years ago, it was difficult for Koreans to exchange Korean won into baht so Koreans exchanged for USD before taking a holiday to Thailand. I have seen Russians at exchange booths also exchanging USD for THB. Russian rubles are not hard currency either.

What is 1000 US and remember India and its surrounding regions are more affluent as you think. Crook or no crook!

  9. The authorities will likely determin that he's a good man, needs a second chance and that the victims should pay him compensation, as he's a poor Thai and they are rich foreigners.

Well... the police can only respond to the person who speaks Thai, and if the foreigner is raising his voice the sympathy vote of "justice" is attributed to the culprit as the innocent person. Yes many a times has never surprised me.

  10. Obviously his house was one of those that got inundated so now he has to buy a new bed (and plenty other things).

The government didn't give him his 2,500 baht, that's why.

But you'll see... He'll vote red in the next elections, that's for sure!

The new wave of Tourist - Indians, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis the lot.... would be an interesting match for Thailands passive corruption at all levels. They have been at this game and have won at all times! The European on the other hand has always fallen prey because of his ethics and human rights. Let the games begin

  11. One of the multiple-choice questions asks, "If you have a sexual urge, what should you do?" The available alternatives are: a) Ask friends if you can play football together; b ) Consult family members; c) Try to sleep; d) Go out with a friend of the opposite sex; or e) Invite a close friend to watch a movie together.

  12. Thai people were promised i pads but will get cheep copy android systems that are worth 3000 baht each, With poor resolution, hurting the kids eye sight.....

YEAH.... I thought I got it wrong - Ipads! were promised by those in Power now as a "carrot" with Scopad now running in the lead to be the sole distributor, (Chinese Company - Has Thaksin shares in there) This has become an Iwash and with poor standards of manufacture...the children would certainly have EYEPADS

  13. I can barely remember sitting an entrance exam for universities - however it's my belief that there are always some stupid questions mixed in with the "good stuff".

Does anyone have some examples of good questions that were asked? As a sample, here's a good question from the 2011 STAT test used in some states in Australia....

In an El Niño year, absence of warm water is likely to cause Indonesia to experience

    A storms.

    B reduced rainfall.

    C cold wind blasts.

    D stronger jet streams

And a rather more obscurely phrased question (though it does teach older english language interpretation)

Which two of statements (i) – (iv) below are most similar to each other in the attitude to equality

    presented?

    (i) Although men possess unequal powers, they nonetheless deserve equal rights.

(ii) Men are made by nature unequal. It is vain, therefore, to treat them as if they were equal.

    (iii) Kneeling ne’er spoil’d silk stocking; quit thy state;

All equal are within the church’s gate.

(iv) The wealth of a nation consists more than anything else in the number of superior men it

    harbours.

Ah, multiple choice. Modern education's gift to the ungifted.

If someone gets it wrong does not justify the other makng it worse! Just Educate the next generation on facts, laws and the respect of both!

I wonder if the police academy has such multiple questions?

Who should we stop on Safety and charge them?

    a. Under age Teen with no helmet?

    b. Motorbike with no lights?

    c. Motorbike with 3 people?

    d. Farang with Helmet and innocent looking?

Or is Logical Voting also based on Multiple choice?

    Choosing a Prime Minister

    a. One who can run a business, but has not a clue in Politics

    b. A Proxy briefed constantly from abroad?

    c. A Cambridge Graduate with a vision for his country?
