One thing the tourism department together with other radical changes through out the country appear to forget is some features are in fact what draw tourists to come to Thailand, for example riding in a tuk-tuk, sitting in a long-tail boat on one of the canals, eating authentic Thai food, seeing wild monkeys in Lopburi etc. The problem with the modern world is every city is becoming the same which is sad for me and I suppose many others who want to experience the different cultures as part and parcel of their holidays, which is why the major cities like Bangkok are for business only not tourism if someone really want to see and experience Thailand they need to get as far away from Bangkok as possible IMO.

Not even going to try and work out the sensibility of all this, it's very Thai to say the least .................LOL

There must still be a chance that people will come to Pattaya and not Phuket which is obviously the government preferred location, the majority of high profile business people living in Bangkok must have more interests in Phuket

Try looking in Phuket as that is where all the action is .....................LOL

To entice people to go to Phuket so the government can turn around and say "Look how successful our star sandbox has been" but failing to say "At the expense of other resorts" it is blatantly obvious they don't want other places to do better.

Exactly the same can be said for Pattaya which normally survives on tourism

Open the country from the inside first, open air bars and allow restaurants to sell alcohol together with selective nighttime entertainment venues then people (genuine tourists in particular) will not be disappointed and give bad reviews of the country as a whole

So has the firework display been cancelled yet? - No, because too much money involved dual standards once again, as has been stated already open the entertainment venues in a controlled manner and let the people spread out.
