  1. In addition to that, the recent Star Wars Films pale in comparison to the first trilogy; staccato acting, unconvincing characters, lack of drama, among other criticisms. Though Revenge of the Sith was better than ther previous two, it was still a long way off.

Did anyone see the remake of Get Carter?

    Gerrard in shock Liverpool U-turn

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has had a dramatic change of heart and decided to stay at Anfield.

The 25-year-old told Liverpool he wanted to leave after contract negotiations broke down.

Chelsea looked set to land Gerrard after having an initial £32m bid rejected by Liverpool.

But Gerrard has another change of heart after talks with chief executive Rick Parry, who said: "He realises how much the club means to him."

I couldn't be more delighted. It is what we wanted all along

    Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry

Gerrard is now expected to sign the new contract on offer worth £100,000-a-week, a deal he initially snubbed.

Chelsea will be bitterly disappointed at the development after failing to land Gerrard in similar fashion last summer, when he was on the verge of a move to Stamford Bridge only to pull out at the last minute.

Parry had admitted defeat in the battle to keep Gerrard at Liverpool on Tuesday, but emerged on Wednesday morning to reveal the sensational twist.

He said: "Stevie's decided to stay. It's a little bit like last year, only even more dramatic.

"In the language he used to us, he never said he wanted to go. He never said 'I wanted to go'.

"I think in the last 24 hours he has reflected on it, he's thought it through and he wants to stay.

I'm very glad he's staying but I hope this isn't going to happen every year - I feel slightly held to ransom

And he added he expected no problems over the new contract, saying: "I think that's already hammered out. I don't think there is an issue with that any more."

Gerrard's discontent is believed to have sprung from a feeling that he was not wanted at Liverpool because of delays over agreeing a new contract.

And Parry admitted: "I've apologised to Stevie if I have misread his emotions.

"I guess after winning the Champions League in Istanbul I thought I knew where we were going but he clearly thought for whatever reason that the club wasn't as enthusiastic about keeping him as we might have been. He was anxious.

"There were one or two issues with the contract which he took to mean a lack of enthusiasm on our part, which it wasn't. He understands that now.

"We've had some emotional moments together, cleared everything up and I don't think this will happen again."

  3. It seems that finding a re-make that is better than its original is a hard thing to do these days. I recently saw Assault on Precinct 13, which was nowhere near the original (directed by James Carpenter) in terms of style, atmosphere, suspension of disbelief, and so on.

If you go back into the 70's then the remakes were often better. Scarface is one that stands out, but then the original was in black&white.

Personally, I am looking forward to a re-make of The Matrix when it comes out in 30 years' time :o

  4. Just wondered how many people go for the various salad bars on offer in Bangkok? I usually go for the one in Sizzlers, and have yet been unable to find one that is better than it. Though many of the dips are high in fat (blue cheese & sour cream especially). I find it has a good enough range of vegetables and fruit to get what I want. I also like the fact that it offers various soups and pasta, if you want something hot.

Has anyone found a salad bar to match it?

  5. I think this has been discussed before on previous threads. The main point being that L.F.C built their success on the ptich in the 80's through a team devoid of Englishmen. I don't remember them being anglophiles in the 90's either. The latest team to go down this path is, of course, Arsenal.

  6. I don't blame you mate. 4am is ridiculously early. How are you meant to get a proper night's rest beforehand when you have to get up at 1-2am? Still the upshot is that if you are quick you can always get back in time for breakfast.

  7. Think it's common knowledge that the current government is not very good at solving problems, expecially in the south of the country. This latest attempt is unlikely to help the situation. Can't see many teachers getting involved in gunfights somehow, and have they been trained to use these weapons I wonder?

  8. First 30 minutes were okay, after that it died a death. Can't understand what Spielberg's fascination with Cruise is, I can't remember there being a single scene in the film that he wasn't in. A good actor he may be but there's no need to make a film so heavily centred on him.

  9. Most people usually use pictures (with dates written on the back).

Bills; electricity, tenancy agreements, and so on.

Bank statements (if you have opened a joint account).

These along with the other forms of proof you have mentioned should suffice. Try to get a binder with sleeves or something similar, so that you can present your evidence in a clear and categorized manner, this will help the IO to assess your visa claim.

  10. Practically starve yourself during the day then go out and drink 10-15 beers. You will be so hungry that you will not be able to stop eating. Go to a curry house, order lots of poppodoms, a couple of starters, a couple of curries, rice and a nan bread. Do that everyday and within a month you will be putting on the weight like there's no tomorrow. Should you wish to further this English tradition, you could always urinate on someone's front door afterwards and punch a policeman on your way home. :o

  11. Interesting little story. Reminds me a bit of one I read about a guy who broke into a sports shop. He jumped down from a window and landed on a pool cue :o , which went up his back passage and killed him instantly. The police found him impaled and dead on the scene.

  12. Which is best - working out in the morning or evening? If morning, best before breakfast or after?

Total newbie to all this, as you can see...

If you've got to do a day's work, I'd go for the evening, especially if you're not used to working out. Otherwise you could suddenly find yourself shattered and lethargic around the office. Much better to feel like that at home when you can sit down and do nothing or as little as possible while your body recovers.

Also, if you're into cinema, I've recently learnt that watching a film straight after a workout is a very pleasant experience. Sitting in those big comfortable seats with a coke and staring at the silver screen is a perfect way make use of the recovery time.

    Enjoy :o

  13. Hi Tilley, seeing as you are a new member, it would also be worthwhile looking through the older pages in the visa section of the site. You'll find many people in the same situation as yourself and a lot of very useful information pertaining to your own needs.

Hope things work out for you.

  14. According to Isiah Berlin there are two types of freedom:

    1) Negative Fredom -the freedom to live your life unhindered and to sustain your basic and daily needs without political intervention or restriction.

    2) Positive Freedom -the freedom to achieve your hopes and goals in life whether they are career orientated, emotional, financial or otherwise.

Think the Thai's have more of the former than the latter whereas we are used to the latter, hence our being in los.

  15. As far as I know you can. I passed through there a few months ago and saw plenty of others doing it. Unfortunately I don't know whether you have to pay an additional fee to go with your vehicle, I'd imagine that you do.

The other point to bear in mind is that though the road from Poipet to Siam Reap has improved a lot, the first section of it is still in bad condition. If you have a particularly nice car, you might want to consider alternative options. Getting a taxi from the border to Siam Reap is neither expensive nor difficult to arrange.

  16. just wonderin', do chess players on steriods to improve their brain power  :o

    Nope, definately not. :D

Find this post rather bizarre as most who take steriods are not at the top of their sport and are unlikely to achieve anything significant by taking them. Those that are face life bans if they are caught.

As for the long-term consequences of steriods, they are not fully understood as yet; therefore, a degree of risk is inevitable.
