  1. Over the past few months I've been offered "ganja" and "ecstasy" (plus one or two other narcotics) outside Family Mart (almost opposite Electric Blue) on Walking street at least 6 times now. The last time I went to Pattaya I decided to hang around for about 30 minutes to see what was going on, as I noticed I was being approached by the same people all the time.

It struck me as being quite obvious that the same people were making deals on the street, with some success, and that around them, casually, though not inconspicuously, there were a number of lookouts slightly further down the street in both directions. The fact that they all scarpered the second they saw the police taking a stroll down the street, and the fact that I have seen them in the same spot for months now, leads me to believe that this is undoubtably a drug ring.

Having recently read about people being arrested on Walking Street for less significant law-breaking activities, such as working and not having a work-permit, I wondered whether the police/tourist-police are actually bothered about this. I find it hard to believe that they aren't aware of what's going on as anyone who has a beer or stands around in that area can pick it up pretty quickly.

Should anyone be interested, I'd be more than happy to point the fellows out.

    Farang or Thai.. ?

And be careful pointing people out... :o

    totster :D

Purely Thai, about 12 people in total.

I used to buy CD's from the sellers along the little alleyway running up the side of where the Family Mart is but am getting a bit fed up by these people who have the cheek to follow me down the street sometimes.

Wish they would understand that 'I'm not interested' really does mean 'I'm not interested'.

Not likely to point anyone out unless it was going to achieve something.

  3. Oh, in case I'm not capable of coherent speech by then, I'll be wearing a black, horizontally-striped shirt, and I'll be staggering around in the doorway attempting to ask if 'Dave' is around.

  4. Will do. Have fallen into the habit of drinking large quantities of Leffe beer in my hotel room before I go out, so should I still be capable of coherent speech by the time I've got to the place, I will indeed ask for 'Dave'.

  5. There is also an ATM card in the new (well two years old now) shopping centre Soriya or whatever it's called (distinctive blue dome next to Saat Thamai).

There's an ATM on the third floor. It's easily spotted as there is a guard standing right next to it.

  6. According to the stats below, Everton have the best performance record in the top division over the years, with Glossop North End having the worst. So there you have it: forget Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, Everton are number 1!

Although three points have been awarded for a win since the 1981/82

season, here the old 2-1-0 system has been used throughout, because

in an all-time table it would be unfair to consider a win during the

3-1-0 system worth more points than a win during the 2-1-0 system.

    Possible penalty points not counted.

  7. Yes, this is more or less what I thought. I suppose I can always ask someone in the Embassy whether missing the interview would diminsh our chances of the visa being issues. I've been with my partner in BKK for nearly two years now. We have lots of proof of our relationship such as bills, bank accounts, and so on. My only real concern is with my finances as 2 flights back to the UK and the cost of the visa will take most of my savings here.

    Thnaks for the advice

  8. No she would not be able to. Furthermore, you need to prove that you are able to support her and act as a sponsor (a family member can also do this). I very strongly advise you NOT to ask an Embassy Offical this question as they will treat your case with great scepticism. Should you not be able to adequately proove you can support your wife/future wife, your chances of obtaining a visa are approximately 1,000,000-1 I'd say. The restrictions are there to stop people from signing on in England, which given the chance, I suspect most of Thailand would do if they could get away with it.

  9. Greetings all.

So, once again I will be heading over to the British Embassy. This time to submit my visa application for the fiancee visa for my partner. I wondered whether it makes a difference for me to be settled with an address and job in England already established before my partner has her interview or not rather. Personally I would prefer to be settled beofre she gets the visa but this does mean I will not be present at the interview.

I would have thought being settled in the UK prior to the interview would improve our chances of obtaining the visa as my financial situation would be subsequently improved and I would be able to provide clear proof of my income, whereas if I wait here for the visa to come through I cannot show any proof of future income. I'm aware of the fact that I can ask a family member to act as a sponsor and provide an address and covering letter but bearing in mind I have a lot to pay out over the next few months my own finances are going to take a biot of a battering I'd rather sort them out sooner rather than later.

So, can anyone give any advice? What should I do? Hang in here for a few more months and sweat it out or send the application off, notify the Embassy I am returning to the UK to work and set things up there as soon as? Bearing in mind we are applying to settle in the UK this must surely be a better option. It will also give me some extra, and well-needed needed cash.

    Advice genuinely appreciated.

  10. Experience is a painful thing mate. The only thing I can say is be more cautious next time around.

From what I know, you can contact the Immigration Authorities but you will need her passport number. If she tries to leave the country she will be picked up, and will have considerable difficulty obtaining another visa unless she has already married, in which case there is little you can do.

  11. Strange way to start yourself off on thaivisa. You didn't create the account so you could specifically ask that question did you?

Anyway, The New York Deli next to the Silom Complex on Thanon Silom is a better bet than Au Bon Pain.

    Try there.

  12. Have to agree with that last post. Scottish football has been down in the dumps for a long time and looks as if it's going to stay there for a long while yet. A shame as many of the best players I saw in the 80's were from north of the border.

After reading through this thread I feel inclined to defend us English but when I remember the scenes that went on at France 1998 and how we managed to turn a beach into a war zone it's hard to do so.

I've met a lot of people who go to matches for the violence only. Some of them hardly like football and seem to enjoy nothing other than kicking people's heads in.

But can we at least remember that these people are in the minority, and that your average football fan is not a hooligan, irrespective of where they come from. Unfortunately, it is the idiotic minority that attracts all the attention and gives everyone else a bad name.
