  1. Ah so it is. Apologies for that. 2 hours sleep on a bus to Mukdahan has affected my concentration more than I thought (knew I should have taken a day bus).

Can't comment about BBC Prime as I've never seen it. Like someone else said in this thread I prefer to do other things in Thailand and have chosen not to buy/watch a t.v. I remember Faulty Towers being very funny, the others I didn't really watch much. The only time I ever watch t.v is whenever someone at work has got the news on. I have seen CNN a few times and can't honestly say it seemed any better than BBC World, but I suppose I need to watch it more frequently to tell.

Americans: next time you get on a bus to Mukdahan. Don't piss people off by waking them up just after they've got off to sleep and asking them if the bus is going all the way to Mukdahan. :o

  2. Sounds like the beginning of a downward spiral. Many people come here with similar intentions and end up making the biggest mistake of their lives or become bored very quickly and leave.

If you want to come here and have fun then I would do it as carefully as possible. It's only after being here for years that you see how many traps lie awaiting for you...

  3. The BBC has an increasing number of cricitcs, most of whom claim it is becoming too American and dumbing down it's reporting. To an extent I think a lot of this comes from Mr.Blair's government appreciating the value and role the media plays in contemporary society, and knowing how to apply professional constraints at the right time. More recently that has been in terms of when to release and when not to release information previously held, such as 'there are no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq'.

Whenever I watch it I notice that their reports are often very carefully worded, inconclusive, and generally inconsistent. Having said that, you cannot compare it to Fox and CNN, primarily because the media ultimately provides the public with the stories that satisfy it, and it's a well-known fact that Americans are generally undiscerning and don't really know what's going on in the world. Brits are generally more discerning about what they read/watch and consequently more choosy about where they get their info from. If BBC World is the best there is then this does not say much for the rest of the stuff on T.V. Perhaps the dominance of American Culture has placed a greater emphasis on entertaining news than accurate news reporting... .

Apologies if any of this makes me sound pompous but let's face it, the Americans are a thick bunch and the world would surely be a better place without them.

  4. Don't gym's bore you?

No, they don't. Lots of machines, weights, people to work out with, sometimes good scenery.

Try listening to an MP3 player w/ your favorite music while working out in the gym and see if it helps.

When I go to Pattya I run along the beach, the view's nicer and its free.

Bad idea. Running on a (slanted soft) beach helps mess up your back, knees, and hips. Running on concrete is particularly bad for your knees: it's much too hard. Asphalt, esp. when you add in the slant, isn't much better.

Gym's are for weights only, surely?

No, and the fact that they also have weights is very, very good.

Yes some fair points. I suppose it comes down to what you are used to. I've always prefered to exercise alone in the open, irrespective how hot it is. Running on the beach is actually okay if you run on the flat/flattest sand close to the sea as it is compact enough to stay where it is and won't cause you to lose your balance, which running on the dry slanted stuff will, and will, as you have already mentioned, mess your knees and back up. Unfortunately, this does mean you might get a bit wet, and can be tricky during high tides. Certainly wasn't the case last weekend, and if you saw someone running in a white shirt and shorts around 6pm, that was me.

Re: music. I can't enjoy it while I exercise and find myself inevitably thinking/mediatating over/about stuff (perhaps the only real joy of running & solitude). Again, if you are exercising outside it's better- especially in Thailand- to be able to hear what's going on around you, as you will be more relaxed and not concerned about motorbikes or cars creeping up behind you, which will definately happen if you run on the roads. I know people that have run 6 marathons and more and don't have a problem with running on concrete, but again I think this comes down to what you are used to, and also how heavy you are.

Gyms: people to work out with. Agreed. The one thing I miss about the gym I used to go was working out with mates. In terms of motivation, it's second to none.

Was going to go to one this year for some cardio work. They wanted about 4300 for three months. Instead I went to Big C, spent 59 on a proper skipping rope and do that in front of my fan after I've had a run, sometimes with the music on. Quality exercise at a fraction of the price.

  5. Of course, the worst dream you can have -often preceeded by a large quantity of beer-is that you are standing at a urinal. :o

Often has embarrassing consequences, should you not be able to wake up at the appropriate moment. :D

  6. Thaicoon, you have done yourself justice. Should you get a reply from this guy suggest politely that you'd like to meet him and discuss -or not as the case may be- what has been bothering you. Have to agree with what has been previously said, a lot of people do go on chat sites are cowards. It's a sad fact of mediums such as these but it seems as though little can be done to stop it.

  7. Well remembered, and if that 80's team could play the current one, I somehow suspect they would thrash the a.r.s.e off it.

Irrespective of how many Englishmen play for Liverpool, I doubt whether they will ever put a side together that could beat the likes of Daglish & co. Definately the player I've ever seen play even though he never could get to grips with our plastic pitch.

Have always liked that goal he scored at the bridge in the 86 season to secure the league, think the result was 3-3 but can't remember for certain.

  8. A few years back, Sir. Alex Ferguson was saying that you can't lose more than 5 games and win the league. Bearing in mind that Arsenal didn't lose once last season and Chelsea have only lost once this season, that means the champions of England have only lost once in two years, since Man.Utd last won the league.

If you compare this with other major European Leagues you can't find a single team at the top that has lost less than three times, most five or six.

So does this mean that the Premiership has become the hardest major league to win in Europe? Or does it mean that it's the easiest because just doesn't have the strength and depth that other leagues have, and any strong European championship side would have little trouble against the likes of Boro', T.H.F.C, Fulham, Portsmouth and so on... .

What do you think? I vote its the hardest on the basis that though a lot of the teams are mediocre, most teams can battle out a victory when they need it.

  9. One of the more interesting aspects of this season is that it is the first Premiership Season ever which has caused a lot of people to wonder whether both Arsenal and Man.Utd would be better off with someone else at the top. I've always admired Wenger but think his tightfisted approach to management cannot keep Arsenal at the top, and I don't think anyone believes the c.r.a.p he's coming out with about these young players of his. Man.Utd might be better off with someone else as well as their manager cannot seem to handle cerain types of players. Could be Chelsea's title for years to come... .

  10. Costs in the UK are managable. The reason I think the fiancee visa is more suited to my own circumstances is that I want to be sure that my partner can come to terms with living in England. She's a very timid girl and cannot speak any English. She has also never left Thailand and is understandably anxious about doing so, though also excited at times. She has no ties here (kids, etc,) so I am confident that she will eventually adapt but I am a little concerned that the change may be too great for her to bear, so I'd rather buy us some time there first before making the big commitment. If the worst came to the worst and she felt as though she couldn't stay there (something I think even Brits suffer with when they go back) I'd rather she went back without us being married first.

  11. I am currently T.V-less and want to watch the game tonight. DOes anyone know of any bars roadside restaurants that will stay open long enough to show the full game. Sound would be preferable. In Thai is okay as I can get most of what they say.

Would be very grateful if someone could let me know of a bar in the Sukhumvit area that is showing the game. I know I can watch it in Subway, the sandwich place, but somehow it just doesn't seem like the right place to do it.

    Help appreciated.
