I was actually asking if the 1 station extension would be added to the purple line or that it would be totally separate. (separate paying and changing for that one station). It would be perfect if the blue and purple line connect in the same station but wont hold my breath for that one.

It connects in the same station in a crossways direction. It is totally separate with a short walk up or down escalators, similar to the interchange at Asoke Station (BTS) and Asoke Stn. (MRT). The MRT-Plus card can be used on both the Purple line and Blue Line. I am not sure whether the distance charge is per station and allows travel through Tao Pun Interchange without having to pay the basic charge for entering the station. Certainly this should happen in the future but as far as I know it will only allow 5-15mins to change trains from Purple to Blue Line and vice versa.

  2. It is True Misery Entertainment. If you switch between the 4 new movie channels, that are supposed to be premier entertainment equivalent to HBO, you will find them running the same movies on each of these channels. Most of these are third rate old American bubble gum for the masses series such as "Friends".  There has been no replacement for BBC Entertainment. I also notice that most of the programs including HD are poor picture quality.

The so called special one month free upgrade to Platinum is a con trick since they unblock this every as a promotion to get Gold Package subscribers to upgrade to Platinum.

Ok there is an alternative to download via Torrents or overseas source, however they also intend to block access through the Single Gateway.

Can anyone explain to me if the ones that are going to operate the extension are the same who are already operating the purple line (that would make sense and be more convenient... but given that that is Thailand I like to confirm). Else you keep paying and switching.

The Purple Line and Blue Line to Tao Pun are operated by the same operator, Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM). Hopefully they will be able to allow a per distance charge, if the interchange allows one to change lines without exiting one station and entering the other through the barriers. The new electronic stored value card is due out in April this year and will be useable on the BTS and other modes of transport.

You are correct on all fronts.

The 7.5km 4 or 5 station extension from Samut Prakhan to Bang Poo has not even been tendered yet and won't be until this extension opens. I'd suggest it might be tendered in 2018/19 but let's wait and see as I suspect that the Silom line extension from Bang Wah to Taling Chan will take priority before this ext.

(Refer to #508 on page 21 on this thread)

It should be noted that when work originally started on the extension in March 2012, it was due to open in full by the end of 2016 and that was a realistic timeframe. As with all BTS extensions there has been the usual 1 or 2 year delay. However, this time is is mainly because what began as an MRTA project (as it is beyond BKK city limits which ends just south of Bearing station) ended up being fobbed off to the BMA. Hence the financial & funding disputes between both.

BTS extension Samut Prakarn to Bang Poo will go ahead asap this year so that the civil works can continue as the current civil works are complete.

All set for Bidding and Contract Award this Year 2017 (107.3 km)

    • BMA Gold line - (1.8 km)
    • MRT Purple line south extension - (23.6 km)
    • SRT Light Red line Salaya extension - (14 km)
    • MRT Blue line west extension - (8 km)
    • SRT Dark Red line extension - (10 km)
    • SRT Red line Missing Link extension - (25.5 km)
    • SRT Airport Rail Link extension - (21.8 km)
    • MRT Orange line west extension - (17.5 km)
    • MRT Sukhumvit line second south extension - (7 km)
    • MRT Sukhumvit line second north extension - (6.5 km)

Read the article and I saw no mention of the Skytrain extension to Pak Nam, Samut Prakan.....  I thought it was suppose to be sped up and completed this year sometime?

The civil construction is 100% complete for the original Samrong extension and the trains are on order for delivery in 2018 onwards. As I understand it, they will run the trains beyond Bearing to Samrong later this year and the rest when they receive enough trains. The further extension to Ban Poo will open in 2019.

Your expect account makes me laugh. It's about money, or lack of it. Problems occurred when 450 million baht went missing. Period.

You totally miss the point, the Blue line was originally proposed to run northwards as shown on my map. The MRTA changed the Northwards extension to the Purple Line without ensuring that the Blue line finished at Tao Pun, allowing connection. I first served on the MRTA planning Committee in 1994 and a number of my colleagues have been supervising the Construction of the Blue Line, BTS, Red Line and Purple Line. The missing link has been in the process of completion even prior to Article 44 being issued as the Main Contractor decided to complete it at his own risk due to his perceived problem if a missing connection He was also ordered to open the Purple Line when his aim was for August this year when the Blue Line opened to Tao Pun. However the Government ordered it open ahead of schedule even though ancillary work was incomplete. The Blue Line is still under construction and the Purple Line Phase II will start this coming year (2017)

  8. The whole problem is that the blue line was in an earlier Master Plan, originally supposed to continue via Tao Pun and up to Bang Yai, there was no Purple Line. Therefore the Blue line has suffered from lack of passengers compared with the successful BTS which has extended in all directions. The MRTA in their infinite wisdom chose to change the Blue Line to a loop and a Southern extension and change the Blue Line North to the Purple Line Phase I. They also stopped the Blue Line short of the Tao Pun connection, hence the missing link. They also are arguing over how will run the Blue Line extension which is ludicrous but T.I.T.

Are these statements really not true then? I know they collaborated with the japs but by whom where they colonised? Won from France?

The Tai people colonized Funan in the 6th Century which was part of the Khymer Kingdom and then the Khymer King gave part of Thailand to the Tai people and it was known as Siam and later Thailand. Later the Burmese effectively colonized Siam taking over control of Ayuthaya the then capital city.

3 meter long snake takes 8 to catch it i Thai, now back in Aus it takes 1 to catch a 15m snake, must be that Fosters you can buy over there. So now off we go to buy lottery numbers related to the black Isuzu Dmax. Did you not hear the one that said You Make Your Own Luck In Life and the lottery is for ? Upstairs with sticky fingers we live in hope

You said that in Aus it takes 1 to catch a 15m snake but you failed to mention that the Titanaboa Snake only existed 60 Million years ago. The longest snake these days is only 9m long at most. It seems that drinking Fosters makes one exaggerate greatly.

I called today and got a 30% discount for 3 months.   This gives me time to see what the new channels look like and True time to maybe come  up with some more replacement channels or maybe offer new/permanent reduced prices.   Another TV poster got 30% for 6 months by calling yesterday/Sunday.

If you read the message scrolling on your True Visions picture, on your TV set, you will see that True only states that these replacement channels will appear sometime in the new year. This indicates that the new service will not start on 1st January 2017 at 00.01hrs.

  12. This order to complete the connection, seems to get repeated every month. The Contractor did not want to open the Purple Line until August 2017 when the Blue Line loop section via Tao Pun was also open, but were ordered by the Government to open the Purple Line early. At that time the construction of ancillaries was not entirely finished and the Contractor was reluctant to handover, so this is one of the reasons the missing link is there. Also the Purple Line section, that has been opened, was actually part of the original Blue Line so that the Blue Line trains would have run through Tao Pun and up to Nonthaburi. The revised Master Plan changed this section to be the Purple line and the blue line was redesigned to be a circle line via Tao Pun, Ta Phra and Hua Lampong, with an extension southwards to Bang Kae and Lak Song. The problem then arose that the Blue line ended at Bang Sue. This being aggravated by the MRTA insisting that there could be a different operator for the Blue Line extensions, which is ludicrous but T.I.T. And this situation is still not settled.

  13. My wife was in a panic as her friends were forwarding this bomb alert without checking. I checked on line and discovered an article in a Cambodian online English news outlet which stated that the Cambodian Government were stepping up security referring to the bombing in August 2015 at the Erawan Shrine as a reason to support this action. The Face Book algorithm picked up on this article, which at the time was referred to as having been published "1 hour ago" and issued an alert associating only "bomb" with "1 hour ago". I am just waiting for Face Book or Twitter sending out a message "Putin has launched a nuclear attack" for Trump to launch his 7000+ IBMs without checking that it is false news. 80% of the news being passed on during the last 2 years has been fake.

ASTRO might be a bit iffy in KK. Mate needed a 10 foot dish in Buriram for a good signal.

Skynet from Burma may be an option, available for 15k bht a year I believe.

Astro is the local Satellite TV in Malaysia including Kota Kinabalu (KK). Lived there 2 years and no problem receiving it on a standard dish.

  15. I have done this myself with a dormant for 15 years, Bangkok Bank Account which was closed by the bank with B20,000.00 still in it. I had to visit the bank and deposit a nominal amount of money for them to reactivate it, for which there was a fee. You would have to come to Thailand to carry out the paperwork, I assume that the account maybe in joint names so if so bring the co-signer. You have to be aware of the reporting and restrictions imposed due to AMLO.

How come there are different types of rails and diffetent types of trains?

Would it not make more sense to choose a good design and have lots of the same?

Spare parts, maintenance and discount for bulk, etc?

The reason of course is the cost of construction vs projected passenger numbers. There will still be lots of the same, since there will be yellow line, gold line, pink line, grey line, silver line and brown line mono rails, to name a few. These will replace major bus routes such as the 145 Samrong to Morchit by the Yellow Line. The beauty is not only speed of transportation, but that the monorail trains are elevated above the flood waters that the buses have a hard time running in.

  17. I thought seriously about under-floor cooling systems, but then I got cold feet.

Hot air rises, cold air falls, so cooling must be at the top

This is also why heating systems may be positioned under-floor (hot air rises). It is all about air circulation.

I have never heard of Englander being used as a confession of nationality. "I am an Englander"? No, that has absolutely never been used in English to my knowledge.

Where do you come from "I'm a New Englander" for sure, or even "You are a Little Englander" an insult justifiably applied to Brexit voters but never: "I am an Englander".

As with people who hail from Scotland: "I'm Scots" or "I'm Scottish" but never "I'm Scotch"

It is from the German "Ich Bin ein Englander" = "I am an Englander"
