  1. The other night I went into Tuskers Bar in Chaing Mai, since they were having the BBQ at that location on the 18th of August. I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea. After finished my drink I asked for the bill. I was schocked when I got the bill, because it was 200 baht. That is $6.53 in U.S., or :o 4.73 Euros. To the best of my knowledge thats the hightest price in Chiang Mai. The #1 bar charges 140 baht, and the Inter Bar (thats has enterainment) also charges 140 baht.

I could never recomend this bar to anyone visiting, or living in Thailand.

    Thank you for your input.

The party is on the 18th of August and hopefully we'll see you there.

  2. It was probably deleted because the name of this thread is Montri Hotel not Hotels near the Montri.

And that the Montri is now a sponsor of Thaivisa.

    Thats correct.

As it is stated in the sign up thread, we are welcoming Thai Visas newest sponsor, The Montri Hotel to the Forum.

  3. Thanks to Mat and Mark (The M&M Boys) for showing us around when we were in Chiang Mai. Had a great time. Please sign me up +1.

    Amen to that....

You guys did all the grunt work before we even got there and we couldn't have done a thing without you!

Thanks for the good times as well as the "rocket science" tutorial :o

  4. Here is the first posting of the attendance list. If you are not on the list it is probably because

    1) You weren't sure if you were coming or if you were bringing someone

    2) If you signed up with more than +1

    3) I simply missed it, but the list will be corrected and updated periodically, so let me know via pm

We learn something new everytime we have one of these parties and this one is no exception. When we stated that children were welcomed, what we should have stated was that if for some reason you decide to bring a child and you dont mind doing so in a bar environment with free beer flowing, you would not be disallowed attendance to the function. It is first and foremost a "meet and greet" party for Thai Visa members, and right now there are as many children attending as members. So I must apologize for not being as precise as I should have been in the invitation wording and just remind the members that there are going to be many adults at Tuskers and with no dedicated childrens area available, perhaps some of you may want to consider hiring a babysitter for the night.

  5. Hi,

Count me in. plus my wife and 2 more friends........

    Sorry fulltimeforextrader,

We can't count you in because of this advisory in the original invitation...

And as a reminder, this party is sponsored by ThaiVisa.

    Thai Visa members +1 ONLY.

For example, new members signing up +5 and current members with +2 or +3 guests unfortunately cannot be accomodated.

    Children are welcome!

If everyone were to "bring the village" we would have 1000's of attendees.

+1 is simple and straight forward and as we were advised by a CM resident when selecting the venue "it's not rocket science"....neither are sign ups.

  6. Baz, Rocco and I will be arriving late in the afternoon on Monday the 9th.

Anyone who would like to tip a few can post here.

I'm not sure where we are going or when, but there's a good possibility that we will be someplace that has beer.whacky086.gif

    Count me in!

well no new posts from the recon on the 9th, must have been a goodie, or theyre still locked up in a police cell someplace after tangling wif some kaetoys perhaps :o

    Nope,

There are so many historical and culturally interesting sites to see here, we just haven't had time to post until now.

We are very excited because this morning we are going to see the factory where they make wooden frogs and this afternoon we are going to watch people make ash trays.

Please follow this thread for more exciting news to come. Rumor has it that tomorrow we will be fortunate enough to visit the durian processing facility!!!

  8. Planning to make some nice pies tomorrow and need you ideas please!

    Beef, pork, vegetarian, chicken?

Guess I will end up with beef and some veggies in it, served with french fries and a salad.

    Thx for your input!

    Gerd

Mine is a chicken pot pie with a buttermilk crust.

    Chicken Pot Pie

    2 potatoes peeled and cooked

    2/3 cup frozen peas

2 cans cream of chicken soup

    2 carrots peeled and cooked

    2 tablespoons frozen onion

    2 cups of cooked chicken

dash of salt and pepper and Msg

In a bowl combine all cooked vegetables and chicken add the cream of chicken soup and seasoning. The mixture should be thick but not to thick if the mixture is to thick add some milk to the mixture. Scoop the mixture into individual pie pans. Use the following recipe to make the crust. Roll out the dough thin and place on top then brush with butter. Bake in a 375 F oven for 15 to 25 minutes or until it is heated thru and the crust is golden brown.

    Buttermilk Pot Pie Crust

    1/2 cup butter

    1/4 cup club soda

    1 beaten egg

    3/4 cup butter milk

    1 teaspoon salt

    5 cups Bisquick Biscuit Mix

And in anticipation of those who can't find Bisquick, here is the recipe...

    Bisquick

    10 cups all-purpose flour

    3/8 cup baking powder

    1 tsp. cream of tartar

    1 1/4 cup powdered milk

    1 1/2 Tbls. salt

    1/4 cup granulated sugar

    1 lb. (2 cups) shortening

  9. I've attempted to post an advert into the commercial adverts section twice, however it has not appeared. I have read the forum rules, and don't believe it contravenes any of them.

Could you offer any suggestions as to why it hasn't appeared?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi JCCR6,

I don't see any of your posts in Classifieds nor in your posting history.

When did you attempt to post?

  10. Here's something you can make with ingredients found virtually anywhere in Thailand.

Homemade Salsa (tastes like Chi Chi's)

    2 green onions diced

    2 ripe tomatoes diced

    1/2 tsp. salt

    1/2 tsp. black pepper

    dash of tabasco sauce

    14 oz. can stewed tomatoes

Dice the stewed tomatoes and combine in sauce pan with onions, fresh

tomatoes, salt and pepper. Bring to just a boil. Boil hard 1 minute

and remove from heat. Put half of the mixture through a blender,

just to mince fine but not puree. Return to remaining half of mixture.

    Add tabasco to taste.

Cool and refrigerate in tightly covered container.

Use within a few weeks or it freezes up to 6 months.

    HOMEMADE TORTILLA CHIPS

1 pkg. corn or flour tortillas (corn are lower in fat than flour)

    cumin seasoning

    Light salt

Cut stack of tortillas into 8 wedges each. Spread wedges in a single layer on baking sheet. Sprinkle with cumin and lite salt. Bake at 375 degrees about 10 minutes, turning after 5 minutes. Make sure you watch them closely. You do not want them too brown. Store in an air tight container. When serving, freshen the chips in the microwave about 45 seconds to 1 minute. Let sit about 5 to 10 minutes before eating so they can harden and cool.

    Makes 200 chips.

  11. I spent almost all of 2006 in China and ate breakfast at McDonalds about twice per week: pancakes and sausage (just like home in Texas). I was so happy........I love Chinese food but you just get tired of it. I wonder why McDonalds in Thailand refused to offer farang breakfast items........even in places like Pattaya. Maybe we just are not demanding it.........hint, hint, hint.

Burger King started serving breakfast recently, but it SUCKS.

I hope that this will force McDonalds to compete! :o

I asked the district manager why they didn't start serving breakfast from midnight until 10am vice 6am until 11am. I told him that they would get a lot of customers at bar closing time, not only from patrons but from staff too for breakfast items. He looked at me like I had a booger on my face (perhaps I did).

That was 2 years ago and the serving times are still the same.

  12. Does anyone know if one can use the purple coloured sweet potatos that are available in lieu of the yellow/golden/ orange coloured sweet potatos. In other words, has anyone tried to make sweet potato pie with the purple variety?

    Thanks

    Try this.....

    Sweet Potato Casserole

    4 cups mashed sweet potatoes

    1 cup white sugar

    1 tsp real vanilla extract

    Topping

1/2 cup tight packed brown sugar

    1/4 cup cake flour

    1 cup chopped pecans

    2 1/2 tbsp butter

    Prep:

mix casserole ingredients in mixer until well blended. Put into well-greased (with butter) 2 qt casserole dish. mix and spread topping ingredients over casserole mix. Bake @ 350 for 50 minutes

  13. ow heck..you got me thinking about Dr.Pepper :o

Ya, in a frozen mug... :D with deep-fried onion rings.

Good recipe, BW. I will try that. Never heard of White Castle burgers before.

Then try the White Castles with these....

    A&W Onion Rings

1 cup McCormick Golden Dipt Tempura batter mix

    1/4 teaspoon onion powder

    1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

    1/2 cup water

    1/4 cup beer

1 extra large white onion, sliced 3/8" thick

6 cups vegetable oil in your deep fryer

Preheat the deep fryer to 375F

Combine the tempura mix with the spices and liquid to make a batter using a fork. There will be some small lumps; don't worry about those.

Slice the onion, and separate all of the rings.

Dip the individual rings in the batter, and drop into the preheated oil. Deep fry 3−5 minutes until golden brown.

Remove to a paper towel lined plate, salt lightly, and serve hot.

  15. I want some White Castle Burgers myself

    Here you go.....

    White Castle Hamburgers

Get a half kilo of 85% lean ground beef, and divide into 16 equal sized pieces.

Form each into a 2-1/2 inch square patties. Do this on waxed paper. Make the patties very thin. Then "cookie-cut" five holes in each patty.(the pattern should resemble 5 on a dice) A CLEAN pen cap works nicely.

Freeze these 16 patties. (It'll make it easier later)

BUNS: One hot-dog bun makes two White Castle buns. Simply cut in half (through top and bottom) and then cut off the rounded sides to make them square.

COOKING: This is key. You need to finely chop a medium white onion.

On a pre-heated 375 degree electric griddle, lay about 1-1/2 Tablespoons of onion for each patty you want to cook (generously spray with non-stick spray like Pam first) The onions should only be "one deep" if you will.

Immediately place frozen patty directly on top of onions and press down.

Cook for about 4 minutes right on top of the onions. The holes in the beef will allow the steam to cook the top side. (You don't flip)

Add a dash of salt and a pinch of pepper to each patty while they cook.

Remove and place on UNTOASTED buns.

  17. I don't know about all of the studies, but my Dad had 1 shot of Jack Daniels everyday as far back as I can remember.

He never went to bars and I saw never saw him inebriated.

He passed away 8 months short of his 100th birthday.

Did he have it neat or with water ?

    :o Wiley Coyote

He had it straight up.....1 shot, no more,no,less,no water

This is not saying it is effective or isn't.....just passing this on.
