How may Thai people (peasants?) can afford al this Farang nonsense regarding Solar power and EV's!
EV sales are taking off, shows what little you know about the subject:
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sales in Thailand surged by 603% year-on-year to 73,568 units last year, with the upward trend expected to continue throughout this year, as per the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).
https://aseannow.com/topic/1321870-thai-ev-sales-surge-by-603-amid-government-incentives/
Solar is also growing a rapid rate, just open your eyes next time you go into a DIY store like Thaiwasadu
As for your “peasants” comment, electric motorbike sales are expanding with shops popping up everywhere.
Solar is also very common now for moving water on farms
As for your “nonsense” comment you can achieve payback in 5 years which is a 20% return on your investment.

Interesting video comparing the Premium and Performance Seal with the reviewer having driven both 500km back to back.
There is also some comments about how each car compares to the it’s equivalent Tesla (RWD and LR) but many comments are more relevant to Malaysia.
At 31:30 he talks about the far higher regen level in the AWD due to having 2 electric motors which I hadn’t thought about before.

But, still have to live on the same planet, right? I also think an EV have to be charged, and also the need for electric power in home combined with the car would be quite much to carry 100% with solar.
I have solar and 2 EVs and no grid connection

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but I always am, at the number of times I see reviewers getting things so wrong about the cars. This guy points out, at least three times, that the AWD doesn't have a frunk. It most certainly does!
I think he assumed this because it has two motors and therefore no room for a frunk.
I was going to point this out in my comment, then I noticed that he had been corrected several times.

These figures are definitely under reported. In our village alone we have one death and one in ICU.
One guy was fishing in a pond thinking that the water would keep him cool not realizing that the sun was reflecting off the water and he was getting a double dose. He had a heart attack and was very fortunate to be pulled out before he drowned. He is the one in ICU.
The other case is very tragic, an old guy was out in his field alone burning the stubble when he was overcome by the heat. His burned body was found later by his family.
I am fortunate to have solar so have dedicated a room with aircon for our 5 dogs all month.
I have been living in Thailand for 20 years and this is the hottest I’ve ever seen it.

Your thoughts?
You might remember the Nissan Leaf that didn’t have active battery cooling and if you had to stop to rapid charge more than once on a trip the battery would overheat and charging speed would be greatly reduced. That technology is over a decade old. Modern EVs have heat pumps and active battery cooling.
My oldest EV is over 3 years old and has lost 1km of estimated range.
My newest EV is 6 months old and you can hear the active cooling ramping up while charging.
So no the heat doesn’t kill the batteries and anyway they come with 8 year 70% warranty

Why are some solar power enthusiasts so rigidly gungho and bent upon the goal of removing themselves from the GRID?
It's almost as if this was their religion, or something, like No-Grid-Good, and Some-Grid-Bad.
I am off-grid (no meter) can you name any others on aseannow? It’s actually pretty rare.
Dealing with PEA is a colossal pain in the butt.
I was “off-grid” (no units used) with a meter for 5 years. PEA did 4 solar inspections, accused me or turning my meter backwards (to exactly the same meter reading each month) and replaced my meter 5 times claiming that my no export solar system had broken their meter which they wanted to charge me for.
1 hour ago, GammaGlobulin said:it seems to me, that it is far better to continue to improve the grid, and to upgrade the grid, as soon as possible.
The more people generating solar, locally and individually, the more we will all benefit as part of the social whole, collectively, if we are all connected to the grid.
Feed the Grid, should be the Mantra, and not .... Off-Grid Good.
I am not allowed to share my power to the grid as any solar system is over 5kW and is consider too powerful to feedback unless I upgrade to a 3 phase connection at the cost of ฿100,000
This video might help explain my decision

with my current consumption I'll need 45 panels and I have not usable space for that number.
I have just posted a 660W panel for ฿3,890
Do you really need 30kW of solar? What is your PEA bill per month?

Thank you.
Yes, and I really need to more seriously consider the solar option for myself, especially if, as is pointed out by the OP, cost of entry for solar will continue to decline.
Apparently the OP purchased a solar panel at the weekend from his local SolarShop for a solar pond pump project.
660Watts for ฿3,890 that’s only ฿5.89 per Watt. You would only need 3 panels to reach your goal of 2kW

It seems that some fraction of people who wish to install solar power are sort of in the PREPPER category.
With solar you are purchasing your electricity forward. In my case after six years, power for my house, 2 EVs and an electric motorbike is free. There is the added benefit of not having powercuts but that wasn’t my primary motivation.
With your solar problem, if you ground mount your panels you could more easily take them with you when you leave your rental.
For “whole house” solar the grid is connected to the inverter which then powers the house from Solar first then the grid. Unfortunately these “whole house” inverters tend to be more expensive and start at about 3.5kW. You need to select a “Hybrid Off-grid” inverter. This is the one I have and they make a 3.5kW version (SPF-3500-ES) You will need to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for the inverter which might mean buying more panels than you planned to.
Alternatively you could buy a small cheap 2kW inverter and use it to power a portable aircon.

We have always had our meter read in the morning of the 20th during the 22 years we have lived here and the only exception to that has been them reading it one day earlier if the 20th was a public holiday.
That changed in February when they came the 19th even though the 20th wasn't a holiday and then in March they came even earlier, the 18th. 🙂 so I suspected that something was in the doing.I have not exported much to the grid this year, only around 20 units/month but not close to the dates the meter reader has been here so I'm quite sure that he has not seen a reverse spinning meter.
The bill for April was an empty one with all lines x:ed over, not even listing the 17 units we had used so I was not surprised yesterday when I found that they had replaced the meter.Your shiny digital meter sure is pretty, but I still prefer mine. I happened to be walking the dogs when a new meter reading guy arrived at the meter post this month - he looked pretty confused, looking at the post then at the house and then back at the post

I have dozens of Xiaomi smart home gadgets, they are well made and excellent value for money.
I agree @mistral53 that Xiaomi car owners will definitely want to customize their cars, you just need to look at the Tesla aftermarket for programmable buttons etc

Tesla just cut again the price of her cars in China and Us. Let’s see if they will also do it here in the near future
Tesla doesn’t have much history of reducing prices here in Thailand.
In the first year they were available here with price cuts going on around the world Tesla only reduced prices once, a week after the release of the BYD Seal
It wasn’t enough to stop the Seal quickly outselling the model 3.
