  1. Agreed. The CCs have kept this thread alive coming up with all sorts of nonsense excuses for not tipping. The list is quite staggering. I think they feel the need to justify themselves and their niggardly behaviour however they are not fooling anybody but themselves. Deep down they know they are CCs and we do too.

Hmmmmmmm, suppose l must not agree. I said before that l always tip BUT, my mrs at times says DO NOT TIP HERE, they have not looked after us, they have NOT shown US a good service. sad.png

If the service was undeserving of a tip then that is a statement you are making to the massage girl by not giving her one. That is certainly not the "norm" but the exception. If the norm was to not give tips at the local massage parlors then the prices would all go up accordingly as those girls would not work for such small change to rub on your feet for an hour.

To be clear, tipping at the massage parlor is expected but it is NOT mandatory. Just as getting a good massage is expected but not mandatory.

Thanks, i finally got the rationale why americans are tipping,

and why they think its impolite not to tip, even if i think the whole theory is warped.

In thailand, and where i come from, there is no statement in paying the bill, (without tip)

it is just doing your part of the deal.

And tipping is also not expected outside tourist tracks & at cheaper places,

but are expected from tourists, and are expected at expensive places

  2. Horses for courses, my ex chinese gf loves being wealthy above all else,

notably to speak of going to polo games, having sportcar & burberry stuff etc,

which is pretty frickin boring to hear for someone who couldn't care less.

OTOH she was also by far and away the best i ever tried in bed which made ME feel wealthy

  3. My gf used to go to a place with only thai customers, usually females, fee was 100 baht/h

Like i already said, she would on occasion tip 10-20 baht, but only if she thought the massage girl

was good & put her back into it.

It is safe to say that the rest of the customers was like minded.

Alas the prices don't go up because of lack of tip,

and we can also conclude that tip is not a custom in Thailand,

except for certain parts where they came under bad influence of yanks.

An honest person will never ask for tip and in most cases will reject any tip,

especially if you know them well

  4. I define cheap charlie as someone looking for a free lunch:

    ex: beggars, including tip beggars

going to a free food place and eat, but not buying beer/etc

going to a all-you can eat for X, and then pocket food before leaving

dining at a place with for example free banana/cookies at the table,

-and then pocket said items before leaving

  5. Absolutely ! every time you go to the supermarket or gasoline station, 7/11 or elsewhere

where you buy something, honor dictate that you must grease at a bare minimum of 200 baht,

lest you want to be referred to as an infamous cheap charlie the rest of your life clap2.gif

  6. I'm guessing he was referring to thai food,

and i take thai style deep fried ribs in garlic

over american style ketchup-drenched ribs any day of the year.

Same goes for thai style omelet with chili vs the blend western junk, etc etc.

  7. I have a friend with braces, the endless gnawing on her cheeks is not an option.

So what i'm looking for is something similar to what a boxer wear, a teeth-guard,

but with softer plastic, something that get shape-able in hot water.

Where can i get it ?

and does it have a name ?

  8. For your own peace, move to Sihanookville, Cambodia.

I know i would if i hadn't been stuck in a loop of helping a gf becoming self-sufficient

    with no end on horizon

what is there to do there long term?

Sit at the beach & drink Ancher beer.

It is also possible to drive there, unlike Pattaya.

And no miserable visa runs or any hassle whatsoever, just pay for a year/half a year

    and be left alone
