My two adult children returned to Thailand with expired passports and valid ID card. Were just told to get new passports at the immigration desk. No problem at all.

Regarding IKBR, do you get dividends paid out to your bank? I am thinking of moving my various investment trust shares to them to a joint account with my wife so that when I die she continues getting dividends and control of the shares. I assume the shares have to be sold, then money transferred and then shares repurchased. Any charges for dividend payment transfers?

Renewing the passport in UK is easy. I applied on line on the 1st May, sent off the old passport the next day. Received the new passport on the 6th May and the old passport the next day. Had the passport photos taken at a shop, given a code to use on the application. E mails from the passport office telling of progress of application. The price is going up soon.

Sorry, cannot answer your questions but one thing to note, when my son went to UK with the intention of joining the army he was told that there was a two year residency requirement before being allowed to apply. After two years, he contacted Capita, who were in charge of recruiting and was told it was a five year residency. So he never bothered. Now recruiting has been changed to Serco. If your son is living outside UK he will have to abide by the residency rules. It is 2 years, not 5, by the way.
