About Me
I first came to Thailand at the age of 22, fresh out of the University of Missouri in 1977 as a US Peace Corps Volunteer. I was an agriculture teacher, first in Maha Sarakham, then in Ayuthaya, for a total of two years. Peace Corps language training was pretty good, so I have been reading, writing, and speaking Thai tonally since 1977. Thai language has been one of my interests for many years. You do the math.
I went back to grad school in the US and got a degree in International Development. I returned to Thailand as a consultant to the Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, in 1984-85.
I married in Bangkok in January 1988. Most of my involvement with Thailand since then has been centered around family activities, vacations, etc. since then. However, I was a tsunami volunteer at Khao Lak, Phang Nga Province, in 2005.
I had a career supporting information technology at the University of Wisconsin until I retired in 2011. I now live with my wife in Sansai, a suburb of Chiang Mai. I'm a cyclist, golfer and swimmer, and do a little gardening.
