  1. As long as they keep finding discrepancies in the voting rolls, especially when they number in the millions of invalid voters across the country, I don't care if it's the Dems or the Repubs that bring the cases to court. Strangely though, the Dems don't seem to want to clean up the voter rolls, or require signature verification, or voter ID, or do comprehensive audits of results, or disqualify machines that even CNN calls "insecure". I wonder why? So it's up to the Repubs... Actually a subset of the Repubs.
  2. Has anyone got a fishing report from Pilot 111, Bungsamran or any other fishing venue within a day trip around Bangkok? I used to enjoy BSR and P111 when I lived in BKK. Completely different species, tactics, and overall experience, but both made it more fun to live in Bangkok. I recall some other parks near P111, but I don't remember the names...
  3. I think it's something along the lines that 14 out of every 10 dead voters, vote Blue.
  4. Of course we do. But I rarely hear of friends/colleagues killing each other over a perceived insult during a drinking session in the UK. I don't know about the UK, but it happens a lot more than you'd think in the USA. The newspapers have a page 8 article about a domestic disturbance and it's all forgotten in a day.
  5. I don't have a problem in my life that a trip to Nana or Soi Cowboy wouldn't make worse. But that's why I took the oath in 1988. My life hasn't been as exciting, but it is a lot simpler (and cheaper). And "exciting" isn't all it's held out to be.
  6. Even a 3rd grader would have sent them an invitation anyway. Just to CYA.
  7. The more interesting story out of Arizona right now is the Repub effort to clean up the state's election rolls which appear to have at least 500,000 and may have over a million ineligible voters. https://azfree.org/blog/2024/06/06/arizona-voter-rolls-contain-500000-unqualified-voters-were-suing-to-clean-them-up/ https://azmirror.com/briefs/republicans-sue-to-purge-at-least-500000-people-from-arizonas-voter-rolls/ Which may have something to do with Ms Lake's belief she got hosed... And begs the question, why don't the Dems care about dead people and other ineligible voters getting mail-in ballots?
  8. You're confusing crazy with strategic ambiguity. Which Trump is a master at. He had to be, in Manhattan Real Estate. Trump told Putin and Hamas "fool around and find out". So they attacked on Biden's watch. And Obama's. I don't know about you, but I prefer mean tweets to World War.
  9. I wonder if they carry air freshener in their pockets.
  10. 2022. Not so long: https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/decision-2022/late-pennsylvania-rep-was-on-ballot-due-to-law-not-fraud/3420028/ And this one's just a primary, but it's 2024: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/donald-payne-jr-wins-new-jersey-primary/
  11. Did anything ever come of Phil Schneider and the gunfight at Dulce Base in New Mexico? https://allthatsinteresting.com/dulce-base I don't recall anyone definitively debunking his story. And obviously, nobody has definitively confirmed it. I'd add that Dulce Base is a really deeeep rabbit hole, worthy of a rainy afternoon of Googling.
  12. Well, they let dead people vote. Why not let them run? As I recall, there was a recent election where a guy won even though he had shuffled of his mortal coil long before election day.
  13. Out of curiosity, is that any cheaper than flying out of the country and flying back in? It's been awhile since I flew anywhere domestic, but I recall domestic flights inside Thailand were often more expensive than nearby int'l flights. I always figured that was because of competition with int'l airlines.
  14. Thanks! To you and a couple of others... That's the kind of first hand info I was hoping for. My thought was to sew one into the little Decathlon bookbag/backpack I keep my essential papers and my backup cash when I leave the hotel on my weeklong visits to Bangkok each month. I don't trust hotel safes, so I keep my passports and cash on my person. (I never worried when I lived in Bangkok because I kept them in the pocket of a tux I hung in a tux bag in the closet. Who's gonna steal a tux in BKK?) I'm not an Apple guy so it would have to be something else, and Samsung seems the logical choice.
  15. It all depends on how they program the voting machines. https://apnews.com/article/puerto-rico-primaries-discrepancies-voting-problems-machines-8019db17829c7b1fbae5fb3fde623a4b?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=share# I wonder if Fox is going to ask for a refund?
  16. I'll be more confident when a case comes across that's settled on the facts and the merits, rather than lack of standing. This just kicks the can down the road.
  17. Insidious thing that Long Covid. I got it 2 years before I got Covid. It's that dangerous. Coincidentally, it was the day after my 2nd Pfizer. To this day, the debilitating effects have altered my life. (Edit: That's why I follow these stories, hoping they'll eventually come up with a treatment) The studies and stories need to specify whether the kids were jabbed.
  18. Can anyone comment on the state of the art, using AirTags, Smart Tags, etc. in Thailand? Is the technology and the infrastructure available in Thailand to track down (for example) a $1500 bicycle, a backpack, or a $500 scooter helmet if one were to be stolen from a shopping center parking lot?
  19. Lower back pain is what finally sent my GF to get looked at. She'd been ignoring it for awhile because of the lockdown situation, and difficulty getting in. We're all wishing she'd gotten in sooner, perhaps before it spread... Taking that as a sign, I got checked out in Samitivej where they gave me a clean bill of health. They did find some anomalies on my x-rays, but they referred to x-rays from 5-6 years ago and no changes. Told me to come back in a year for a checkup. Well worth the 10,000 baht (+/-) for peace of mind. (And that's an expensive hospital, but they and Bumrungrad have my history and I flipped a coin). Edit: I'd add that I'm still considering going for a 2nd opinion from Bumrungrad, because TIT and my life is worth more than $300 to me. I was generally extremely pleased with the level of care from both hospitals, but it never hurts to have a second opinion, especially for a few hundred $$. Back home, $300 would probably not even cover my Medicare deductible.
  20. Just spent an hour on a subway in NE. China where I've been staying on and off since 2000, and I agree. There are some hotties. The percentages aren't as good as Thailand, but still much better than back home, even in Texas. Though, for some reason, Dallas seems to attract lotsa purty ones.
  21. But the flipside of that is all the adult Thai women who still dress like they're in the 5th grade. They're gorgeous and feminine. But hard to take seriously.
  22. No, he'll pardon him right after the election. His lawyers (and a Biden-friendly Delaware court) will keep him out of jail until then. Pardoning him right now would be electoral suicide. Of course, if the Dems dump him at the DNC convention, he may move it up. Mechanically, it will be interesting to see how the Secret Service protects him if he does go into custody. Better protection than Epstein got, I hope. But Epstein wasn't a presidential family member entitled to Secret Service protection. Edit: Which brings up another dilemma for the Dems who are trying to pull Secret Service protection from Trump because he'll be convicted. Will they still insist that a conviction disqualifies someone for SS protection? 'Cause Hunter looks kinda pretty...
  23. And it's no concern of mine, if they're the ones that suffer the consequences. But in a turbulence incident, innocent people who did everything right are often among those who get hurt by flying bodies. Seat belt warnings (lights, not buzzers) wouldn't just protect idiots from themselves. They'd protect everyone from the idiots.
  24. Hub of alternate physical realities. That was my first thought when I read that. But changes in G forces did cause stuff to go flying around the cabin, even if gravity itself remained constant. It's a frame of reference thing...
  25. I don't know that the idea is that far out. There have been several times that I thought I was strapped in, but the buckle didn't catch. Having a little flashing light overhead warning me would have been helpful. Also in cases where the seatbelt sign goes on... People just aren't thinking, and a little warning light above their seat would remind them. It would also reduce workload for the flight attendants who have to check everyone's crotch area before landing to make sure we're all strapped in. They've gotta love that part... Expensive? I'm sure it is. But worth evaluating.
