  1. 1. The image was bad before them undertaking breaking up the protests.

    2. More than a few laws needs to be changed if they become independent.

    3. Will corruption end if they are not answering to the government? DOUBTFUL!

    4. Will they stop accepting BRIBES?

    5. The best thing to happen is that the government DOES NOT APPOINT the Chiefs! (lackeys in other words).

    6. Would they actually do something that protects the public?

    7. Would they be trained better?

    8. Rather than harassing tourists for dropping a cigarette but on the sidewalk (right beside 5 other Thias doing the same thing), will they treat everyone the same?

    9. Will they have physical fitness training?

    10. WILL THEY ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT than they do now?

  2. he said the ministry would set up a "Thai Rice Farmers Assistance Fund". Those who wanted to help the farmers could donate money to the fund at BAAC account number 020033119718. This measure was designed to assist the farmers in the short term. cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif

So now they are looking for people to donate to a fund to pay off what the government owes. I smell something rotten in Denmark (Thailand). Probably another scam so the PTP can get the money before they get out of town!

  3. BANGKOK: -- Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) director Chalerm Yubamrung said Wednesday the Civil Court’s ruling would not clip the centre’s powers and vowed to carry on reclaiming the four other government premises still occupied by protesters.

Offering his thanks to the court for not lifting the Emergency Decree, Chalerm said that the restrictions imposed by the court were just an expression of concern of the court.

For instance the ban on crowd dispersal, the CMPO director said that he would not order dispersal of protesters so long as the protests are peaceful and the protesters are unarmed or they do not trespass on government properties.

He insisted that the court’s ruling would not affect all the arrest warrants which have been issued by the court against leaders of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee.

Police, he added, will continue to conduct searches to look for arms suspected to be concealed by protesters.

He is clinging on to what perceived power he has!

  4. To save money, just catch Suthep and his yellow thugs, then give the country back to the peaceful people.

Of course, there should be a budget allocated to keep him and his criminal "guards" in prison for many many years, but this can always be reduced to the strict minimum rolleyes.gif

Peaceful people? So peaceful people burn down 1/2 of the city in 2010, shoot the current protesters and throw grenades at them? You are so misguided. :)

  5. Remember that this article is from the hopelessly biased 'Nation'. The problem is that the EC wont let the government borrow the money it needs to pay the farmers.

However much has been syphoned off in corrupt payments, the scheme has let to financial stability for farmers (until now) and the Isaan economy is booming. Once the government is returned to power taxing the rich more and collecting taxes that are due (tax evasion here is worse than Greece) should seal the hole in the coffers.

The corruption is lamentable, but this scheme has resulted in a major redistribution of wealth. For too long the Isaan and Lanna have been the rice baskets for Bangkok and its source of cheap exploitable labour. This is changing and Sutheps patrons dont like it.

Why didn't they pay in October?

Because they gov't didn't have the money then either because so much had been skimmed over through corruption and many MP's pockets were well lined!

  6. In 2010, scores died in an army crackdown in central Bangkok on a Red Shirt rally against the previous government, which came to power by parliamentary vote after the courts ousted Thaksin's allies

It still amazes me that the media ONLY publishes this but never mentions the millions of dollars stolen from ATM's and all the millions of dollars of destruction that the REDS did during that time buy burning down so many buildings etc.
