I have both HSBC internet and their phone app, they work fine together. It won't let you use both at the same time (of course) but they co-exist well. The phone app is a good replacement for the smart key and can generate codes needed for online.

They mention during the setting up procedure ''receiving a one time activation code on your phone'', now does your phone number have to be a UK number or will my Thai number suffice ?

They do actually mention a UK phone number in their setting up text description.

    Yup, you're good to go.

Thankyou for your help, i don't quite understand this text in the information provided by the HSBC ''log in'' page......

''Open it up and if you are already registered, select 'Yes' to enter your username and log in''

What do they mean when they say 'already registered' ?

    Sorry to be a pain.

Now if i set up the phone app can i then use the phone app to create a pin which i can then use on my PC with online banking to give me access to online banking. I want to dispense with using the physical secure key and use the digital secure key but want to use my PC for online banking as opposed to mobile banking on my phone.

Hope thats clear, is this the procedure for achieving what i want, i got it from the HSBC log in page ?

Apologies for the same info 3 times and the small text but if you click on it it will enlarge.

Were there any security questions i need to prepare for with the phone app ?

The HSBC phone app is very simple and easy to use. I was nervous about using banking phone apps but after a year of using them for both UK and Thai banks, they are a god send.

Thanks great info. Now i really am a com dino so setting up the phone app will be a real challenge as i've never set one up before on my phone.

Before I changed my address to my Thai address, I asked a question via online banking. I told them I was thinking of moving to Thailand permanently and asked if I could still operate my account and credit/debit cards with a foreign address. After HSBC confirmed that I could use my account & cards as normal, I changed to my Thai address, even though I had ALREADY moved to Thailand permanently.

I did receive an lndividual Tax Residency Self-Certification Form to complete from HSBC. I had to declare my country of residence and disclose my Thai Taxpayer ldentification Number. I don't have a TIN so I replied saying that my visa (extension) prohibited any kind of work and had no Thailand income, so I didn't have/need a TIN. This was accepted by HSBC.

I didn't encounter any problems setting up the HSBC app, including the digital secure key. Once enabled, you can also use biometrics to log into the app (assuming you have a compatible phone).

Great info, thanks. I note you did the address changeover in 2012, i wonder if that policy of allowing account holders to not be a UK resident has changed ?

Thankyou great info, so i could attempt the phone app and if unsuccessful (com dino here) revert back to the online/internet with no problems. I too share your comment regarding the replacement for the smart key, the battery does'nt last forever.

I have lived in Thailand full time since 2009. I have an HSBC account and don't have a UK address (since 2015). I actually changed my address via online banking to my Thai address around 2012. New credit/debit cards are sent to my Thai address as the old ones expire. I can still operate my account as normal with no problems whatsoever. HSBC internet banking & phone app work fine here. Some other banks are closing accounts with non-UK addresses and HSBC may follow suit. Who knows what the future holds?

Thanks for your post. Interesting to say the least but i live in fear of advising HSBC by way of online banking that my address is in Thailand to then be told that the account has to be closed as i'm not a UK resident.

You mention ''HSBC internet banking and phone app work fine here in Thailand'' but i understand you can't have both and the phone app is difficult to set up, i'm not very good with anything com techy so always avoid phone apps because of the setup and small phone screen.

I also understand that once you commence the phone app setup there's no going back to online setup, its cancelled even if you don't succeed in setting up the phone app, now thats a real problem.

Some years ago I had an interview with HSBC on this issue.

The first point is discretional on the local manager. Mine was allowed on the basis that the account was active and where pension was paid. I was advised that coud change in the future.

On the second point I was told they would not send cards to Thailand. I was told i would have to collect it from the branch and end of last year that was a real pain. It was supposed to be Sheffield branch but when my son went to collect it, they didn't have it, turned out it had been sent to Chesterfield. They were told to hang on to it but when my son went they had sent it to Sheffield.

Did get it on 3rd attempt and HSBC gave me £100 for the inconvenience.

i'm surprised they allowed your son to collect.

  10. Has anyone any update info on HSBC's attitude towards UK account holders living in Thailand ? If i were to advise them of a change of address from the UK to Thailand would they allow that or close my account.

Also if they permit living in Thailand as opposed to being a UK resident would they send replacement cards/secure key to my address in Thailand.

    TIA

I've just realised how can it be a 1 year plan with 18 months free if they are charging you $3.30/month and billing you for the entire 30 months at commencement = $99.00

or have i missed something ?

Beg away but, unfortunately for you, you do not get to decide the point of my comments.

Neither do you get to alter comments that I posted when you quote them, the forum rules do not permit that.

What are you on about ? My experience with regular post (monthly pension payslips) i receive from the UK tells me it takes an age, thats fact not fiction.

    Have a nice day.

    NordVPN (NordVPN)

    Apr 8, 2023, 03:47 GMT+3

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Over the past few years, NordVPN grew a lot: we implemented the super-fast NordLynx tunneling solution, upgraded to diskless servers, and introduced 10Gbps servers as well as server colocation (more info in our blog: https://nordvpn.com/blog/nordvpn-colocated-servers/).

Our costs grew with these upgrades, and that led to the price change. We hope to continue innovating and bringing a great experience to our users at a fair price.

That being said, after the end of your initial plan, your subscription will be automatically renewed, and you will be charged the then-current price of the service. If any changes will be implemented to your current plan, we will inform you via email in advance. For more information, read our Terms of Services.

You can also see the renewal pricing on our other products, including NordVPN here: https://my.nordaccount.com/legal/pricing/

If the renewal pricing does not meet your liking, you are able to manually choose the subscription plan according to your preference by purchasing a subscription from our official website at nordvpn.com/pricing/

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Best Regards,
  15. I've recently received my Nord VPN renewal billing and i believe its increased by a substantial amount. I've gone from my 2 year plan to a 1 year plan not by my choice but by them no longer offering me a 1 year plan. My plan is the standard Nord VPN. Now from memory 2 years ago i paid something like the same cost that they are now proposing i pay for their 1 year plan.

Here's the email they sent me.....

Your NordVPN subscription will be renewed

You will be billed by an automatic payment in 30 days unless you cancel before the payment is charged. Otherwise, no action is required.

Note: you will be billed the current standard price of £83.88 plus £5.87 additional tax* (£89.75 in total) for the 1-year plan of NordVPN.

Your current subscription expires on April 29th, 2023.

    * Sales tax, VAT, GST/PST, or other mandatory tax applicable in your country of purchase

Anyone else have a similar experience ?

You haven't made one valid point.

It's clear what the new TM30 requirements are and what they mean for expats living in Thailand.

In a nutshell living in place of residence no TM30 is required to be filed after travel to another province involving stays and also travel out of Thailand and upon return no TM30 required.

What does require a TM30 is if there is a change of address (usual place of residence) or when someone exits Thailand and reenters with new visa or visa exempt.

Try telling that to Korat IO, i left Thailand to visit the UK for a holiday and on my return my retirement extension was due for renewal so off i went to the IO duly armed with all their requirements only to be told that a new TM30 was required. I explained that i did'nt think this was a requirement under the rules but they insisted.

    Go figure.................

Sorry to hear that but can I ask why you chose the TURP?

I understand Rezum wasn't available in your area but couldn't you have come to Bangkok?
It is an outpatient procedure after all.

I did consider doing Rezum in Bangkok but felt what with various tests i underwent prior to Turp which no doubt would have been required for Rezum it would not be just a one day outpatient procedure and the urologist here in Korat came highly recommended.

Really electricity is an unseen killer.

Tingles sound trivial, but in a shower, not.

You may or may not have a main earth and ground rod, but your electric water heater should have a good (as in you don't want to die) earth. Both of them.

Get an electrician to check the water heaters.

Do you have an RCBO or earth leakage  circuit breaker for the power to the water heaters?

I would'nt have a clue and yes i intend to have an electrician check them out.

Yesterday i went to have a shower and i got a tingle from the tap when turning it on, its an electric water heater. I thought i'd go and have a shower in our other bathroom but low and behold that was exactly the same.

Is this dangerous to use ? should i just wear flipflops as has been said in this topic ?

Is there anything that can and should be done to rectify this problem ? I'm no electrician and my knowledge is zero.

I would appreciate any help guys, TIA.

Just tried both electric showers and ''no tingle'' is evident, TIT lol

Has there been any work near your main earth into the ground? I'd check the earth.

I'm not aware if we have a main earth into the ground, i've never seen one around the house.
