  1. Anyone else ride the Versys a lot in the city? Seems to do quite well in this video.

i use mine a lot in the city and not many complaints ,its an easy bike to flick from side to side

and the height of it means great visibility and also your mirrors and handlebars are higher than most car mirrors

    so its great for filtering

when traffic is ultra tight like around silom ,pratuman or chimatown ,a yamaha elegance is still slightly faster

and more manoeuverable so i just use that in any situations when the roads are jam packed and i still need to get somewhere

I'm about 6' tall. Do you think I'll be able to get both feet completely down when stopped? Picking it up tomorrow, but never actually sat on one. Thanks.

wear a pair of workboots ,riding in flip flops is not a good idea esp on a new bike

im about 6' and i can just about put my feet down on both sides but i have a custom seat made

so mine might be a little higher

if you can sit on a 250klx or crf dirtbike it should be fine ,its just a bit heavier but once its moving you

wont notice that and it sinks down nearly an inch when you sit on it

the rear suspension is also easily adjustable so if you lower it to setting 1 at the back it will lower the seat

a bit at the expense of firmness (riders weight depending )

  2. I haven't read all the postings yet but I have read up to the point where the bag with all belongings minus the mobile were returned to the police.

I have a friend who was in a similar situation. Her blackberry was stolen at a hotel restaurant. Neither the staff nor the police were very interested in the case even though she offered a cash reward.

After a few days, her friends saw her online but the profile photo had changed. She downloaded the photo and returned to the hotel and asked the manager if he knew the person on the photo. Sure enough it was one of the waiters. The waiter was questioned and he admitted that there was a little group of people involved in stealing mobiles and other valuables from customers. The phone was returned and the staff were sacked. No police involvement.

Maybe if you check the photo against the police officers it could be one of them but then how on earth would you tackle that situation?

if the new pic was of a woman then likely the policeman theif has given it to one of his girlfriends whistling.gif

  3. There's a big difference in a bike that's been crashed into the back of a Toyota having misaligned fairings and another on a brand new bike just a few days old from the factory....

Sorry, that was a bit of a joke.

Nothing you see in the pics has been damaged in any way.

It takes a while for the farings to sit together, I think it took about 3-6 months for mine to find their natural state.

Gravity, heat, vibrations, riding forces will all play a part in your farings finding their natural seat. Unless each and every piece is specifically bolted onto the frame in a number of places. The 500 has far, far less faring pieces that will sit against each other compared to the 250, so wouldn't be a major worry if one worries about such things.

And btw, no need for people to quote the large number of large pics.

thats unlucky beacuse from our 3 cbr 250's none of them have any signs of fairings not being assembled properly or loose fitment

one of them has a misaligned rear indicator but thats simply because it got broken off somehow and honda said 900thb for a

new one and it would take about a week to order it so i said no thx and went across the road and the somachai shop fixed it in 10 minutes with a screwdriver and some

    superglue .........for 30 thb biggrin.png

  4. That split fairing under windshield I tried to tighten the bolt next to it wouldnt make any difference at all, if I loose it a bit, it splits even further. I wouldnt use super glue on plastic specially black as it will immediately turn into white. Happens with some leather as well if you glue shoes leather will have white stains. Yes I will compile a paper for them to look at and fix the stuff I just need to translate it into Thai as unlike BW BKK, in CM they English end on "buy" "cash" "sing your name".

My petrol tank cap has about 1/2 inch (maybe 5mm) gap from right and none on the right, weird.

    Thank you everyone.

I think a lot of people have over-sensitive senses when they buy a brand new bike. I know I usually do. Now though I just accept bikes are not meant to be pristine perfect, they are meant to be ridden.

I just took some pics of the gaps around my CBR250's faring, windscreen, gas cap and headlight.

I wedged in a few pieces of sticky adhesive foam (the ones that people put under furniture legs) to get rid of any movement or buzzing. They're wedged in but not forcing the gaps, the gaps are au naturale.

    sany0010k.jpg

    sany0011r.jpg

A less extreme shot of that.

    sany0015am.jpg

    Side farings in natural state.

    sany0017y.jpg

    When pushed on.

    sany0020x.jpg

    sany0021yk.jpg

Gas tank cover has about 7mm of gap on the near side, about 0.5mm of gap on the other side.

Bike rides perfectly at 50,000km and no real buzz now like many CBR250s are reported to have.

Personally I'd try to accept that bikes are not pristine perfect pieces of virginity, so go out and smash it through some twisties for a day and see the smile on your face when you get home. That's what it's about, not whether the pieces of plastic are perfectly aligned. Think of it this way, it has character.

Wow, I hope mine doesn't get that bad, but if it does, it must be possible to take the fairing off and lay a weatherstrip (available here?) along the whole bottom, isn't it?

There's a big difference in a bike that's been crashed into the back of a Toyota having misaligned fairings and another on a brand new bike just a few days old from the factory....

I would make them fix it or take a refund if they wont/cant

  6. Richard:

The Lifan LF250-B comes with 2-years warranty and nothing changes after 1-year....

Well it something changes richard after a year. It changes its color:lol:

    Richard:

Your friend is not that smart, the Lifan LF250-B uses chrome covers for the exhaust pipe (the chrome is not the real exhaust pipe) and the chrome cover is a good amount cheaper than 1300 THB.

So now exhausts are falling, no answers to emails and you blame people on not being smart? Unbeleivable:lol:

Before you complain about Lifan, you should check the warranty from Honda, as far as I know (and you can find a few posts on this forum) the exhaust system from your Honda is not included in the warranty.

the entire honda bike apart from consumables like brake pads and such are covered for 3 years (cbr250's)

the engine and transmission is covered for 5 years/50,000km according to what i can

    translate from my thai manual

i dont find anything that says the exhaust system is not covered

  7. Yip Yip Ya 123.

Thanks for your input and the info on the tyres, are they readily available and apprx how much?

    the dunlop tt900 was750 thb 80mm width x 16"

    the IRC SS 530 was 1180thb 100mm width x 16"

they are both much softer and better grip than those terrible cheap stock tyres that came with the bike

the shop fitted them for free and gave us free drinks and the owner speaks better english than many farangs :D

its in chinatown ,bangkok just off that famous roundabout but dont know what its called

not sure how them fairings are attached but maybe you have stripped the thread on some of them by over tightening.

When you got the bike was the battery already connected and I take it the kilometre reading was on zero kilometres ,I suppose it is possible you could have got a problem bike that someone returned after a few days use ,it is a bit strange thatvyou was able to walk in and buy on the spot the same day, dont know if anyone else tried to buy from change mai bw on this forum and could give feedback if they were offered bike same day or told there is a waiting list

. The guy at the shop told me they prepared the bike since morning since they knew I was coming which is kind of weird, as I could have cancelled the whole thing.

If you cancel the contract do you get the deposit back? I assumed it was non refundable when you order a bike unless they cannot keep up their end of the deal and make the agreed date...

That plastic looks terrible, not the answer your looking for but superglue would probably fix it:-)

Seriously though, I would make them fix it at their expense, the fairings shouldn't be so loose on a brand new bike and in any other country except thailand they wouldn't get away with it so don't let them think it's acceptable here

  9. I am looking for information please. I have the 2009 Nouvo with 26,000kms, serviced monthly with engine and gearbox oil changes and in the three years I have owned it had no problems apart from a new battery.

I do quite long journeys on it but find that it tramlines quite badly with the tyres on it, replaced new at Yamaha as per original {I presume} front tyre is 70/90-16-MC-36P NF59 tubeless, rear tyre is 80/90-16-MC -48P NR76 tubeless I have to confess means very little to me, can I use a bigger and better tyre from a known maker which would afford a better all weather grip and avoid the tramlines.

A Thai friend told me that he read somewhere that the 133cc engine can be increased by a kit to about 160cc, has anyone heard of this kit, he thinks it's a Yamaha item but not sure, better still has anyone experience of this if it actually exists. Thanks for any replies.

I got wider tyres on mine, 20mm wider on back and 10mm wider on front Dunlop tt900's and back Irc ss530 (same tyre honda use on silverwing but smaller)

Feels like a different bike, much safer

Also there is big bore kits for the mio which go up to 250 or even 300 which may work but you don't have the frame strength, brakes or traction for that much power

And you will for sure give the engine a much shorter life

Not worth it when you count the cost of everything to do it properly you would be safer picking up a cbr250 for 70k

  10. "The Forza will be released in February, but again no price yet."

One site announcing the introduction of the Forza in Canada said "Honda Canada hasn’t released the sticker price for the Forza yet, but judging from the standard ABS and exhaustive list of features and technological achievements, it’ll likely be wearing a tag around $7g when it arrives in Canadian showrooms." The PCX150 currrently sells in Canada for $3749, so assuming that the same relationship holds and assuming a price for the PCX150 of B73,000, the Forza should sell in Thailand for about B140,000 (B136,303 by my calculation). No doubt that the dealers will try to gouge buyers when the new Forza first becomes available, but if you wait for the dust to settle and the available supply to increase, I expect that you will be able to walk out of a showroom with a Forza in Thailand for under B150,000, and probably closer to B140,000.

I hope and pray your calculations are correct smile.png

Saying that, i found that Thai dealers, well Mytion at least, they first put it on the market at a "cheapish" price as they did first with PCX, then if demand is high, they increase the price and keep doing so until it reaches the max, they then start to offer some discounts or huge discounts in anticipation of a new model.

This is what has happened with PCX release, i was one of few first people who bought one and i paid from memory 68.500 baht, it then went up as high as 76 000, just before the release of 150cc, price for 125cc dropped to low 60 000.

PCX 150 cc was selling for as much as 80 000 baht to now come down to 73 000 baht as Forza is about to hit the market, so if anything i think it would be a wise choice to buy as it first comes out as i believe price is sure to go up by 10% at least later in the year

dealers will of course rape the life outta the first few customers who are desperate to get the new models

and people walking in off the street asking or trying to order models that wont be released until a few months

later will fuel the trend even further

if a shop only gets 2-4 x forza 300's every week and theres 17 people trying to buy it at the same time of course

    the price will go up

i think dealers will anticipate the demand as with the CRF 250 and every new bike after the cbr 150/250 and price gouging

will start from the very start ie : no MRSP bikes until innitial demand has been quenched

  11. Of all the bikes I have owned & many were Honda's they never required checking of valves at 1000km/600mi

Same with the Ninja 250 I just took in for 1000k service.

Could be a Big Wing thing?

    2010 CBR250 manual

    63102080.jpg

Inspect (check) Valve Clearance 1,000km, 24,000km....

I just had the 1k service done on my CBR250 and I doubt they did any of those checks, given the time it took them. Now that I have that page in English, I will definitely go back and ask them. That seems to be page 12, they checked boxes on page 14. I asked AP Honda about getting this book in English, but they said they didn't have it. Where did you get yours, please? They said they'd send me a copy of the manual in English, but haven't gotten it yet. BTW, in the back of the warranty book there is info about the Safety Riding Course and there seems to have been a voucher or registration page to cut off, but mine is missing. Do you know what that was?

When you buy a new cbr250 you get a free ticket to do the 4 day safety course at hondas training centre. In bkk for free

I did it and was very enjoyable and then I made the wife do it as well for my entertainment and her safety :-D , you didn't. Even need to bring the manual, the invoice from honda dealer was enough

I don't know if you still get it when you buy a cbr, at the end you get a piece of paper saying you completed the honda safety course and a driving licence as well if you haven't already got one

  12. I don't think anyone has implied that the Nexus 5 will have a larger screen, or that the model number is in any way reflective of the display size?

Rather, I was just guessing that it might be futile to re-ramp N4 production/sales now - and some LG and Google execs have hinted at this - , when that model is all but dead, and focus on giving LG a second chance with the KLP launch platform, which one presumes would be the N5. I think Samsung have this loose barrier below 5" for smartphones and above 5" for phablets, but Google or LG may not feel similarly constrained?

Reading some of the rumor press, the LG/Google N5 may hit 5" (1920x1080!?), but I too would like to see it no larger than the N4 (4.7"). Assuming the N5/LG/Google tie-up then a launch at Google I/O in May 2013 may be more likely than anything at MWC in February?

i think nexus 5 will be knocked out with a 5" screen and thats why they changed the name of it ,galaxy s4 and new google motorola also seem to be coming with 4.99" or 5" panels and insane resolutions like 440 ppi if the rumouors are true

    http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/426050/20130121/motorola-x-phone-vs-nexus-5-rumors.htm#.UP35hPK2Jf8

getting a bit excessive IMO when the best phones are all 5" but luckily since its android there will be a few thousand choices

of handset before long all sporting the latest features for anyone that thinks 5"+ is maybe a bit too big for a pocket phone

  13. the kawasaki 650 engine technology havent changed much in a good few years

im sure by now they have fine tuned the manufacturing process and know what to expect

    by now

by comparison ,the cbr500 engine is new tech for the thai manufacturing facility

and since they are going to launch these bikes for the whole world ,maybe they want to

entensively test the first batch or two in thailand to check the valves are where theyre supposed

to be and the factory is machining everything properly

before they get to usa and europe

  14. you would save on fuel economy ,a few tanks a day on your intended distances with a modern injection engine

that could use take advantage of cheaper fuels as well etc

you would get 70% back from a 1 year old honda in thailand on re-sale also and probably not much if anything for the chinese

so i think if someone did a counter test alongside you all the way for 20,000km ,the honda would work out to be the same price or

maybe even cheaper at the end

its been 3 years since i bought a chinese bike (assembled in thailand or whatever they like to call it ) and it was not only unreliable but dangerous as well

i hope you have a better experience of them than i did but i will never again try to save a trivial amount of money on something as life dependant as a motorcycle

  15. Have the new prices been announced for Honda too??

    Yeah. 210 k for cbr500, 214 k for cbx500 qnd 204k for cb500. 6000 thb increase only.

It looks like honda is subsidizing some of that tax as kawa prices went up really high like 20 k on er6f?

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect App

the new tax is incremental and the kawasakis got hit with 10% because being in the segement above 500cc but the hondas were only hit with 6% due to the engine being a 470cc

kawasaki have also given a slight discount as the versys should have been 319k @10% added but they have knocked a few grand off it

  16. Overrun and demolished two ninja 250s on the road! They tried hard though then gave up with angry impression on their faces!

Probably because they though it was a CBR250 5555555

    Just joking biggrin.png

Yeah i thought the same. I think it is a cbr 250 as new red color of it is nearly the same:D

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect App

lucky you didnt get the tri-coloured one or they would have probably thought it was a cbr150 and been even more depressed :D

  17. Irc just like Dunlop have many different grades of tyre, they have some quality tyres in their more expensive ranges, just the first experience of the Irc brand that most people get is from the cheapest hardest oem tyre's that came on their bike but all Irc are not like this

If they sell motorcycle tires and even one of them is <deleted>, they only care about profit, not your life! wink.png

with a statement like that obviously you have no idea about tyres ,business in the real world let alone anything else wink.png

if yamaha throws out a contract for a couple of million scooter tyres that must be 70x 80 x 16 etc and must cost not more than 200 thb per tyre no company is going to be able to to offer their best tyre that comes near what youre going to get spending 5-10 times more on the best rubber from the best manufacturer

its like saying all hondas are <deleted> after just riding a honda wave for 10 minutes since if a company produces a bike thats <deleted> ,it doesnt care abouut anything except profit ......

C'mon fellas...you ain't riding world class racing machines. Keep a decent amount of tread on both tyres for the wet roads and you"ll be as safe as you are ever going to be. The rest of the commentary is basically crap.

you should go and give lectures to the R+ D departments at Goodyear ,Pirelli and Bridgestone ......

they could save billions every year by just "keeping a decent amount of tread on both tyres "

After all ...........the rest is basically crap blink.png

In the uk I saw a guy smack straight into the Back of a lorry on one of these little bikes ,he was only going slow so it wasnt too bad the bike didn't actually touch the lorry it was more the guys chest and arms smacking into the lorry kinda put me of these little bikes.
    [/quote]

ride any bike into a metal truck that weighs a few tonnes and the results arent going to be pretty
this bike will be better than the ksr for at least 1 reason ,fully manual clutch
Although i will also be too tall to ever get comfortable on a bike like that i can see how people could have great fun on it
and if i were a teenager again or 40kg lighter ,i would want one :D

  19. Which one you thinking of getting?

Will be interesting to see how it goes for you.

    Good Luck

Ares 110 Just like a wave

Given how cheap, reliable, available and easy to sell a Honda Wave is, why you would do this? Don't get me wrong, it will be interesting to see how it holds up but if it turns out to be a dog then that's quite an inconvenience. And if it holds up well, you've still got a bike which is harder to get spares and harder to sell.

Just interested why you'd choose to buy a bike that has a cheap, proven alternative on your doorstep. I can understand people doing it with something that isn't available here. Or if it's say, less than half the price of the Honda. Otherwise, it's seems like taking a risk for the sake of it.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing how it holds up. On a copy of such a simple bike then I guess it should be OK. Good luck.

buy a normal wave that gets 62km+ pL and you will have saved the differnce in fuel prices by the end of your 20,000km

with the pgmfi engine vs the oldstyle carb in the chinese bike

if anyone were to buy a 600 or 1000cc bike from china and try to ride 20,000km in a year in thailand it would make interesting

reading but i dont know if anyone is crazy enough to do that yet :)

  20. Went to truemove today and explained the situation and that the thief is now using a true move sim and gave them the phone IMIE number - but (as expected) they told me there is nothing they could do

Not being au-fait with phones, sim cards and IMIE numbers I don't know if she meant 'couldn't do' as in physically, or morally.

I always thought an IMIE number was personal to a particular phone and that if that phone was transmitting a signal then they could trace it and retrieve the number used and possibly even block the phone (until the user pays 200 baht at MBK to get it 'unblocked')

Samsung gave me the same negative "cannot Mister" reply.

No wonder phone theft is so bloody common here !

Even in the western world, it's unlikely, the provider doing something, without some official request.

A stolen phone, lost and found, doesn't matter to them. As long, it is used, it is money!

A stolen phone can be blocked (the IMEI is like the mac address, usually only once around!).

Any provider can lock it, in the telephone system. Not only in his network.

imei numbers can be altered by anyone with a laptop and the appropriate software although

    its illegal

when i lived in europe it was fairly rampant and the providors could block an imei

from using national networks but the problem was it could be used in a differnt country

so mobile phone theft was very common and probably still is
