  1. What's always puzzled me is when you're drinking with a friend and you both have, say, an inch of beer left in the glass and there's about half a glasses worth left in the jug / bottle, then more often than not the girl will fill up one of your glasses and leave the other persons almost empty, instead of sharing it 50/50. What's all that about? Do they hope you'll buy another jug / bottle to even things out? Does the person she perceives to be of higher status (the bill payer) get their drink topped up? Does she give it to the one who's been drinking at a faster pace? Can't see the logic.

I know what you mean. I think they do it because they're thick.

    Ha ha, nice one.

Yeah, pretty sure you don't need brains for that job.

  2. all good and true, but many backpackers are annoying to no end and have no real agenda other than to go to the places everyone else goes to -- where's the adventure in that?

many of them are merely looking for the next "high", whether it's cheap booze or drugs or some adrenaline rush. they have no mental aspirations beyond what their guidebooks tell them. 3rd class travel zombies.

however, youre very right in that they are more likely to support the true local economy. so perhaps putting up with them is worth it if it keeps the "real chiang mai" around just a little longer.

    Valid points I agree.

  3. What a sissy getting his legal team and running to court to sue for defamation

    ttelise ,post # 1 ^^

I would of course presume that you include all the other Thai politicians who have used this tactic in the past in the quote and labelled them as ''sissies too?.

Thaksin was himself rather fond of using the sue and run tactic and I believe you will find he still has cases before the court too.

Candidly, his actions and MO for dealing with situation make it pretty apparent allegations are correct.

You are of course privy yourself to all the facts concerned in the matter, thus your judgement is based upon pure facts rather than your own opinion ?

If so you should present your evidence to the court so as to assist the defendent in his case.

I am sure that the esteemed legal firm ''Messrs Sue, Grabbit, and Run,'' would indeed be delighted to request your appearance in court so as to enhance their case in defending their client as you so clearly state you are fully aware of the guilt of the plaintiff in the current case before the court ?

    Nice ....

  5. Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit denied that some party MPs met Thaksin in Hong Kong to lobby for positions in a possible Cabinet reshuffle. He said they went to wish Thaksin well on his birthday and there was no political significance.

Yes it is an Edam. A delicious yellow centre, with some undigestible red stuff on the outside.

  6. Reds to rally at court for ruling on Jatuporn

    The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Red shirts will stage a rally today in front of the Criminal Court, which is due to decide whether to revoke the bail of red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan.

Phaholyothin police chief Col Chatree Kanchanapakdee said yesterday some red shirts had already put up tents in front of the court on Ratchadapisek Road to wait for the ruling.

The Criminal Court is due to make a decision on a request by the Constitution Court to have Jatuporn's bail revoked.

Chatree said police would be deployed to maintain security at the court due to the rally.

Constitution Court judges sought revocation of Jatuporn's bail after comments by the former Pheu Thai MP during a red-shirt rally in front of Parliament were interpreted as intimidatory.

Jatuporn made the speech after the Constitution Court ruled on May 18 to disqualify him as a Pheu Thai MP.

Worawut Wichaidit, a spokesman for the red-shirt movement, said yesterday that red-shirt leaders and supporters would gather at the court today to provide moral support for Jatuporn.

Worawut said the rally was not an attempt to pressure the court to retain bail for Jatuporn. They simply wanted to provide support for Jatuporn, he said.

The spokesman said red-shirt leaders did not expect the court to revoke Jatuporn's bail and had not prepared any measures in the event his bail is revoked. He said red shirts would be asked to behave during the rally, otherwise they could be accused of contempt of court.

Jatuporn has threatened to stage a hunger strike in prison if his bail is revoked.

In another development, the Democrat Party vowed yesterday to organise political activities in provinces considered to red-shirt strongholds, although Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva encountered strong protests by red shirts in Chiang Mai on Friday.

On Friday, Abhisit visited Chiang Mai to follow up on the Democrats' policy to push for the issuing of community land deeds for the poor in the north.

Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said yesterday that red shirts hounded Abhisit from the airport to a hotel where the Democrats held a seminar. Some even tried to block Abhisit's car with their vehicles.

Chavanond said the Democrats were not worried by the incident but would continue to visit "red" provinces. The government should stop using red shirts as tool to block the Democrats from carrying out political activities, he said.

Also yesterday, Abac Poll gave results of its latest opinion survey, which found that most people felt conflicts over charter amendments were not over yet.

Abac Poll said the survey was carried out among 2,144 residents in 17 provinces from July 16-21. It found about 80 per cent of the respondents believed that conflicts over changes to the charter were not over.

Some 53 per cent of respondents believed courts would help reduce the conflicts, but 60 per cent did not believe that Parliament, the prime minister, or the armed forces would be able to lessen the conflicts.

Abac Poll said 63 per cent of respondents believed turmoil and conflict over charter amendments would not end even after a national referendum, while 37 per cent believed the problems would end after a referendum.

The survey also found 66 per cent of respondents still support Yingluck Shinawatra as PM.

  8. Everywhere, except in places for tourists. smile.png

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESIR clap2.gif GOOD ANSWER !

I did lived for 7 years on my boat in Antibes (French Riviera) where it's even worst, tourist (maybe) called the region the land of grin? For they are considered as walking wallet, for instance 1kg tomatoes 7,5 ¤ sometimes more! On the other hand one should see how many tourist behaved, on the little beach its 50% sand 50% butts, some do not care to go shopping in swimsuit, after midnight hard to find a group of passerby not completely drunk shouting in the street, not to mention the various brawls everywhere. As far as Thailand is concern I have watch some videos on Phuket at night... I swore I will never go to Phuket! When I met my wife first she was reluctant telling me "I do not want to be a Farang's Girl Friend" then she discovered I was a Buddhist ( I was way before coming to Thailand) She is from Isaan, but worked for a company in Koh Samui after divorcing her Thai husband , the couple owning 3 shops they where not poor people, so she had a terrible opinion of the Farangs for she told me, in various occasions old men proposed her money for boum boum, in the streets in broad daylight or even in Big C or Testo Lotus, it takes a certain time to convince her all Farangs are not same! So personally I understand the way some Thais considered many Farangs. One day surfing the web for subjects relating to Thailand I unexpectedly stumbled across a Porn Site where they called poor young Thai girls " Street meat" I was and still am DISGUSTED! It is insulting the whole country,I do not know where this site is located but videos where of course shot in Thailand, I wish they could be caught by Thai police for the bastards to rot in jail for years!

OK Thai people are not perfect, but I am afraid many Farangs are not either, for unfortunately the word respect was never part of their vocabulary! sad.png

You certainly got a point there .....

  9. Ask burmese people if thailand is the land of smile...

Back home, somebody smiling means that he is happy/nice people/good mood... in thailand their smile have a total different meaning.

You can take it like a grimace or a tension/contortion of their face.

That why many foreigner are fooled by their "mask".

I had a problem with a Thai neighbour, so I asked someone in my Thai family how to deal with the issue. He said smile each time you see him so if you want to take revenge he won't think it's you; said it's Thai style! So I said but Thai's also smile with their eyes, response was foreigners don't understand Thai smiles...

  10. Here's a better idea... why not boot out all foreigners from Thailand entirely. Let's be rid of them for good!! Come on, who's with me? Let them take their 100's of billions of baht out our economy, let them close all their farrang stores and shops (KFC, Tesco-Lotus, 7-11, RedBull (oh wait, that's a Thai guy), which none of us ever use because we all go to the "thai"

markets anyway) whose needs all that tax revenue anyway? Let those farrang sell all their assets such that the glut of supply dramatically lowers the value of all our assets, we don't care if our assets fall 20% to 30% in value. Let them take their billions of baht more of spending out of our shops, restaurants, bars, and hotels because Thailand does need their money! Let them leave us all alone as were were 600 years ago. We were much better off living in the dirt and the jungle. Long live King Naresuan!! blink.png

    Spot on

  11. One of the boys in brown pulls me over, at the police box just before the southern Beach Road ends, in front of the Sigma Hotel.

Not my bike, it was rented, but I had the paperwork and also had a helmet on; when he asked for my license I handed him my New York one as I don't have an international drivers license. I live on Phangan and they never ask for that, they rarely even stop people for helmet violations, so I have never gotten one.

The guy starts telling me 500 baht for not having a license. I tell him "song loi" to make him go away but he says no and shows me some half-ass list in his small police box office which has the rates for various offenses. OK, it does say 500, so I hand him the 500B; which he promptly stuffs in his pocket and hands me my license back.

Now I say "receipt?" and he looks all flustered and points to my license and waves his hand - as if, you've gotten that back, now go - and I say again; "receipt"? Once again - "receipt", now making the sign of a pen across paper. Nope, he can't produce one.

Now he's pissed off.....and his equally-shady partner, who has pulled over another falang and is worried they might lose another bribe with me bitching and moaning about receipts, wants me out of there asap; he has stopped talking to his pullover by now and both of them are motioning for me to get lost, but I'm going nowhere without my receipt.

Now he takes out a ticket book, fills it out and essentially throws it at me, grabs back my license and gives me my 500 baht back. Now his english, which was a total of NONE before that, suddenly gets a little better; "You go police station, pay fine, come back you get this back" and he gives me some convoluted half-ass directions to the station. Figuring I would now just surely pay the 500 and let it all drop, he figured wrong; I went to the police station, which was not easy to find and took me about 20 minutes.

Nice people there, and they have a sign right out front which says "We take complaints 24 hours a day". Cool. So I get my ticket processed and pay the 300, not 500, baht fine, and I get what I wanted in the first place; a signed RECEIPT. And, at least some minor satisfaction knowing the money is now going to the town of Jomtien and not to some little creep robbing people on Beach road.

I ask for their Boss, telling them I have a complaint. Some detective-looking guy now comes around, and 2 other cops, all of whom speak decent English. I describe exactly what happened, motioning again and again that the corrupt little nobody on beach road took my 500B and put in in his pocket and I got no receipt for it - that, basically, he was robbing tourists on Beach road and the money was going to him and not to the town. The detective guy and his 2 buddies seemed to take me at least a little bit seriously and he took out his phone and made a couple calls, and I thanked them all and left. Went back to the police box, retrieved my license, and showed that guy the receipt; I pointed right at the 300, said "Sam loi" and drove off. Man, was he ever agitated. Good.

    Now, I figure 3 possible outcomes can come from this waste of 30 minutes of my life;

1} Nothing. But at the very least that little man lost some massive face to me, and we all know how important that is to Thai people.

2} The 3 coppers all chatting about my complaint; at least one told the corrupt midget, maybe even all 3, and he has now lost face with them as well, and maybe word even got around the station and some people had a laugh at his expense. Awesome!

3} Most unlikely, of course, since surely someone up the line is getting part of these thefts from the beach road police box; his superiors let him know someone complained, and that he had better watch his arse in the future when stealing from tourists because some may complain. And he then lost face with someone up the food chain; which would make the 10 dollar/30 minute loss totally worth it.

Just another day in the Kingdom!

Well done man I've done this before although it took more than and hour but I went away with a smile so for me it was all worth it ..

  12. I am looking for a mobile provider in Thailand, considering TrueMove but have been googling them and seems many people not happy.

I've found Neg TM posts 3 and 4 years old all saying the same things, I am amazed that after all this time TM has not improved, seems everyone mainly complains about poor customer service and administration.

Does anyone know any foreigners working for TrueMove, whats going on down there? Seems its being run by Morons,

Can anyone stick up for them?

PS: Ive found some Negs on Dtac & Hutch as well but about services not CustomerService, I guess we should just say tit or may pen rye? or who gives a sh_t lol

Cancelled my true service the worst I have ever experienced ,,,,

  13. Well, I will get straight to it. I will be discreet to avoid breaking any house rule's - which I understand should be in place.

I am not a young man who goes out to all those bar's and club's but i am having quite an episode right now that is straight out of one of those cheap Bangkok tales book's one see's at the local bookstore's

    My story concern's a local.

A,quite well to do lady of Chinese descent who I met through friend's.

She and I got on quite well and we shared many common interest's.

We were friend's for nearly a year before our relationship stepped up and we went on holiday together- this turned out to be one of the biggest mistake of my life.

Instantly she changed into what I can only describe as a real bitch.

She became unbearable to be around because she made no sense at all and was very rude to staff for no good reason.

The very first thing she said to after our first night was " now we have slept together, my family are powerful ( I would be told that every day) they will want us to get married and not be happy if you do not ask me quickly"

Soon afterwards I was told that I would not be safe if I did not do " the right thing".

When we arrived back to town she had arranged a sort of low key party with her family in which she said to everyone, although she was very drunk that we had been talking about getting married!

    ,

I played along for a short time until I put my foot down and tried to make a joke of it.

Suggesting she had drank too much and I was far too much of a old man to be doing that at my age.

It ended so badly with her screaming at me and saying she would accuse me of sexual misconduct unless I quickly did the "right thing"

I went home and cut off all contact with her. To cut a long story short I changed everything to get away from her constant attempt's to contact me.

Thank fully I also had to leave Thailand due to other commitment's .

Now,, she has once again managed to find a way to contact me by way of a social network.

I have been informed that I face arrest and possibly the death sentence for being part of an international drug gang! Utter crap!

She sent me this from her normal email account in her real name that am keeping for evidence

My question is this- this accusation is quite absurd I have nothing remotely connected to any of this and hope it is all hot air.

But one thing that does bug me is that the security staff at my old place said "bad looking men" had been in asking after me.

One of these men became quite friendly to me because I assisted one of his children in their educational need's.

He sent a message to me via a friend that he had been offered a "large sum of money" ( which only turned out to be 20'000 baht) to call one of these men when I return ( he left a phone number on a card which now have-surely more evidence)

However it is at this point I really ask if I am not just over-reacting-am I? Please tell me straight.

I have now kept nearly all of her most nasty email's and sms.

All these can be traced back to her.

And I have the name card of that man and his handwriting, although the man who gave said he could not make a statement attesting to this and now always asks me to destroy the card.

Should I forget it and just carry on? What on earth would she stand to really gain?

Some have suggested I contact a lawyer to contact her to warn her of possible police action This I am told can actually be very helpful although others say this would only make matters worse.

    advice please

Well she surely is a crazy bitch ,I have the contact details of a Lawyer he is based in Phuket but I am sure he will draft something for you and help with the reports to police so as to keep it all up front and above bored ,please take this seriously as they can cause you major problems if you let it fester .

  14. Just thought will make a small thread and give people some advice on how to deal with those loud street parties where no one seems to care about people living near by

There has been a few threads asking for advice, but no one could really come up with a sure proof answer.

I have now been a victim of such and found a solution which worked very well, so here it is

    Little background

I live in a small soi, village alike with about 15 houses. Everyone is friendly and knows each other well.

Few months ago we had farm fresh Isaan family rent one house. Mother and father do absolutely nothng but lie around the house while the sexy daughter is a bar girl

Anyhow, i noticed there was alot of movement in their house and appeared as more Isaan was moving into the same house, though all looked busy with something.

The other day, one of them approached me and asked if i could move my car away from MY driveway, as they wanted to put something there for 3 days.

Note, they did not ask if they could put something there, they asked for me to move the car.

    Naturally i refused.

The next day more movement all around and from what i gathered, either the mother or the father or the bar girl daughter was going to be a monk so the preparation for the ceremony began

Cut the story short, in the morning at 6am i was woken up by MASSIVE speakers right outside my house, when i looked out, they had blocked the entire street, put up the tents and so on

Basically no one could drive in or out, no one could even get to or from their house, including myself.

I work 7 days, so my home and sleep is my sanctuary and by now i had enough. It took me 15 mins to try to get out of MY house on the bike to get to work. already with a massive headache from the sound system

I was not going to be living this for 3 days.

    The action

I contacted city hall but not to lodge a complaint but to ask what was legal and what was illegal, This is what i was told

    1. It is illegal to block the entire street, unless have permission from Police or City Hall and it does cost

    2. It is illegal to block people from accessing their homes, even if have permit as per point 1

3,It is illegal to play loud music before 8am and after 22pm

    The result

The nice lady on the phone, asked for my address, after asking a few questions as i explained earlier and said she would send someone over to check it out.

I made the call at 14.30pm

I returned home from work at 17:00pm, to find not only the whole thing is gone, but there is not even an evidence of anything being there.

I mean they spent all night making the tents and everything else, and all was gone in less than 3 hours.

From what i over heard from relieved neighbors, city hall official arrived and asked for the permit, which naturally they did not have. He offered them to either pay t a huge fin(50 000 baht) or clear out the street.

From what i know, when locals want to make such a party, the tradition is to visit every neighbor in advance to ask for permission and also offer a gift for inconvenience.

Anyhow, hope it helps, though i doubt it will work somewhere in Isaan village, but sure worked in the city smile.png

Well done pal all this watch ya back ,be careful ,loss of face sorry f...kum if they don't respect u don't respect them when r expats gonna grow balls and say enough and yes I have done it and had problems and would do it again...
