  1. Thais have given up on the rice competition. If we cannot win, we will no longer play, and then the world can't see what LOSERS we are. As usual, sat on their laurels until they became FAILURES. No way they can develop new, fast-grow strains and get them out to farmers before the next planting season. "...the Department of Rice’s inability to certify walk and chew gum...". Why not? WTF do these clowns do? 2 years ago, the latest data I could find, showed a budget of 89 BILLION BAHT!! From a local source, announcing that MFP were launching an investigation into Rice Dept: "However, on May 9, the department increased its requested budget for the fair in Bangkok to 5 million baht, saying it would extend the event to three days instead of two, Karoonpon said. “The details in the new budget request were also suspicious,” he said. The department raised the cost of organising the exhibition from 400,000 to 1 million baht, and increased the award for rice farmers who had demonstrated extraordinary performances from 100,000 to 500,000 baht, he explained. The complaint also asked Move Forward to investigate the transparency of the selection of event organisers, saying the department had not used the standard e-bidding procedure. Instead, it used a method that took prices submitted by selected contractors. However, only one contractor submitted bids, Karoonpon said. “Based on the selection documents, four organisers were invited to submit bids, but only one actually submitted [them] and won the contract in all three locations. This company has a long record of working with the Rice Department,” Karoonpon explained. “Furthermore, the contract was signed on May 29, suspiciously close to the date of the first event, on June 5, despite the department having months to plan for it,” he added."
  2. Cool. Her car has a separate pedal for reverse!!
  3. Possible hidden benefit: Fewer non-drinkers, pedestrians, open street stalls on the road at 0400, so better chance of taking out one of their own, rather than innocent civilians.
  4. Sheryl- do you know if this can be diagnosed with a barium x-ray? I'm asking for a 30-year old woman who has recurring GERD and a lot of pain if one presses a finger right at the base of the sternum. Gaviscon gives her relief from the heartburn for about an hour. Might Pattaya General Hospital be a place for this (the public hospital on Soi Buakhow)?
  5. The "highly intelligent monkeys" are obviously more intelligent than the (Thai) human residents! :)
  6. How will this boost employment rates 20-30%? It's just going to be the same <disgruntled> employees working longer hours for the same <crpa> pay.
  7. Took 52 years before I became aware of this. Charted 3 separate times in OZ!??
  8. Guesstimate off by 30%. That is truly missing the mark.
  9. Nope. Not true. Wrong. Incorrect. Bogus. Nah. Not so. Etc. (or, as too many write, "ect").
  10. When I encounter someone with this problem, I just pat them on the head and say quietly, "there, they're, their".
  11. Many years ago, I was walking down soi 6. Some BG had a fit with a farang and threw an ashtray, which broke and sliced the <deleted>e out of my foot. She apologized and she and the other girls tended to my needs. :)
  12. Wanchai's resilience will come in handy as he waits...and waits...and waits for his Sreetha-promised 50K THB.
  13. I taught at the only Singaporean government-sponsored school outside of Singapore, in Aberdeen, Hong Kong. The students were brilliant. Best I've ever seen, after teaching in 6 different countries. Thailand was the worst, by far. The so-called "Singapore ..." schools in Vietnam were crap, but still better than any Thai secondary schools.
  14. My current girls. Will harvest ~1 plant/every 2 weeks, now thru March 2024 4X4: Gorilla Bomb, AK47, and Pink Kush. 2X4: Gorilla Bomb, AK47. 3X3 baby tent: Amsterdam Amnesia (new), Glueberry OG (new), Ghost Train Haze, Gorilla Bomb, AK47, Pink Kush, and some unknown strain gifted to me.
  15. The standard line, at least at Jomtien when this crap occurs, is that there's a standard waiting time, but one can pay a fee to expedite.
  16. When I read the headline, I thought, "Geez, what did that cat do to you?" :)
  17. Did you get those tips for short-time or long-time? :)
  18. This is the 3rd or 4th time I've seen this excuse recently. Do the just ignore the road in front of them and follow the dot on their GPS screen? WTF??!!
