  1. OP, the reasons why he stopped foreigners are

    1. Thais would not stop for him and most likely run him over as well.

    2. Stopping a thai requires ability to speak thai , which he does not.

    3. Fine for thai is 200, foreigner 400,pure economics

    4. This area is full of rental bikes driven by foreigners without license and no green book, so it's 1000 at least in fines.

On 3 road, corner Pattaya tai, there is a daily police check point, everyone gets stopped.

To answer why he would, because he deeply thinks and believes by "assisting " police he is one of the boys with "connections"

Are volunteers alowed (by law) to write tickets?

  2. That curve is a death trap. Every couple of months someone else has an accident and dies at that spot.

Barriers along the outer edge of the curve and a couple of nasty speed bumps going up the the start of the ramp may help. You can't prevent stupid, but you can try to limit the consequences of it.

They have already tried to prevent stupidity by placing a traffic sign " no motorbikes" at the entrance.

Or make up for a bad design. Would this overpass conform to international standards? While the drivers are to blame so is the bridge design. It's scary even at slow speed. Did it once and that was once too many.

Notice the sign in the photo? No motorbikes allowed on the ramp. Doesn't stop us though.

  3. just a heads up about jollys on soi beukow

They are now adding tax to their bills which in my estimation is an attempt at a stealth price increase, it is in the menu (small print) but not on the advertised prices on boards or on the specials.

That is indeed an extremely dishonest practice. Why it isn't a crime here I will never know.

I recently noticed another place nearby that had a large board outside with pictures of various dishes, and showing the prices on them. It was only on closer inspection that I realised that they weren't prices at all: they were menu numbers. The actual prices were quite a lot higher.

You ordered the 3 baht dish and got a big surprise when the bill came? :)

  4. There is also the scam where they scan the goods twice, e.g. two cans of coke instead of the one you wanted. They are then one can up, and can have it with their lunch - I've noticed this happen a couple of times after I've insisted on a receipt. Always an apology and a smile as though it was a genuine mistake.

If you can't total your purchases, shame on you.
